Positive stories of not catching it despite household members testing positive?

So we are the house of Covid at the moment. We were in contact with friends who tested positive, so we went for PCRs - DS2 was positive, all others negative. He was pretty much asymptomatic. Couple of days later DS1 felt unwell, positive lateral flow followed by positive PCR. Few days after that, DH came down with it (despite being double jabbed). DS1 has now finished the 10 days isolating. What are my chances of not catching it?? We’re not doing any kind of household isolation as I’ve already been cuddling two Covid-ridden children for ten days, but it feels insane to be sharing a bed with someone with active Covid symptoms but yet be able to go out and see people. I haven’t actually seen people as such despite not having to isolate myself, I’ve been out to the shops and for walks but that’s it. But when can I stop worrying?? I’d quite like to meet up with friends/go into the office next week, but it feels like it’s hanging over me!

I’ve been for a PCR again today. DH thinks I’m silly to test when I don’t have symptoms, but if I do have it asymptomatically I’d rather know ASAP so the isolation finishes sooner!

Anyone got any positive stories of not catching it from household members?

I had it. I was double jabbed. A few rough days.
DH ( also double jabbed) and DS (16 - no jabs) didn't catch it. I couldn't isolate, house too small.

Wincher · 12/09/2021 00:23

Thank you! As I understand it being fully vaccinated reduces the risk of catching it by about two thirds, I think that’s right, so that’s what I’m hoping for!

My PCR result just came through, negative.

Great!

DH has had symptoms since Tuesday night so if I was going to catch it I probably would have done by now, right?? And if household isolation was still in place I would be out of isolation by now as it’s more than ten days since the first family member tested positive.

Dd1 had it for a week before a positive pcr (just nasty cold symptoms) she’s 21, dh and I both double vaccinated and dd2 single vaccinated didn’t get it despite hugs, shared bathroom etc.

SirVixofVixHall · 12/09/2021 00:30

I am wondering this too. Dd2 finishes her ten days post positive test tomorrow. DH has another day to go. Dd1 and I so far are negative, most recent test results yesterday.
I don’t know when to stop worrying ? (We have also all isolated). I also don’t know whether if we stay negative this exposure gives us antibodies ?

annlee3817 · 12/09/2021 00:45

I had it, before being jabbed. My DD hung to me like a limpet all week and tested negative and my DH slept face to face to me for the week and also tested negative. we lived in in a flat, so isolating away from each other wasn't happening

vdbfamily · 12/09/2021 00:47

one of our kids tested positive whilst we were on holiday so we had all 5 of us been sharing car with her daily. We also had an 8 hour drive home with her positive. She and I wore a mask, others did not. No one else got it, neither did any of the family we had stayed with and she had been in very close contact with, snuggled on sofa watching films etc

Almostwelsh · 12/09/2021 00:56

My daughter had it and I never caught it despite her not telling anyone she had symptoms for the first 2 days. I'm double jabbed but didn't stay isolated from her at all and my PCR was negative.
Her siblings didn't catch it either despite not being vaccinated.

bruffin · 12/09/2021 01:10

Dh only knew had it because he got pinged and had mild cold. So was about 5 days by the time pcr came back positive. Dh was doubled jabbed AZ, as was i . Dd double jabbed phizer and ds single phizer. Nome of the rest got symptons, and all had negative pcr tests

AdriannaP · 12/09/2021 01:12

I never had it. Double jabbed, did a pcr and several lfts. All negative, DC had a covid (PCR positive and symptoms) and she also slept in my bed etc. Good luck OP

I was comforting a sobbing DD and we shared a bowl of popcorn the day before she got symptoms and I didn't get it.

sashagabadon · 12/09/2021 09:56

Yep me twice! Dh caught it watching the football and my dd caught in a month later reading festival. I wasn’t particularly keeping away from either of them, neither were that ill so life carried on it our house. Didn’t catch it!

whiteonesugar · 12/09/2021 10:36

Yep, DH and Ds had it, me And the other DS didn’t.

MossyBottom · 12/09/2021 14:43

I had it, quite badly. DH managed to avoid it in spite of sleeping in same room up until I tested positive.

However we did go to extreme lengths after that, all windows wide open, separate bedrooms, bathrooms and masks in communal areas.

BooseysMom · 12/09/2021 14:51

Reading these experiences it seems bizarre that those living in close proximity aren't all catching it. It's all based on the viral load thing and surely sleeping face to face with someone would mean you're gonna get it! Confused
If any of our household came down with it, we could no way isolate as the house is too small!

Autumngoldleaf · 12/09/2021 14:55

Op on a lap wondering the same thing! Small ish house and we can't make dd isolate from us and don't want her too.
We only have one bathroom.. I'm trying to keep her windows open and fans on as much as possible all over and putting alcohol gel on bannisters..

But I feel like a sitting dick even if dd has it mildly dh sits op her all day.. What he gets heavy dose.

Autumngoldleaf · 12/09/2021 14:57

Dh is sleeping downstairs as well though

BabyPotato · 12/09/2021 15:10

My in-laws had it in their house and it was only their teenager who tested positive. FIL and MIL shared a house and car with the teenager and never developed symptoms and kept getting negative tests. This was about a month ago I think. The teenager hadn't had jabs but my in-laws were double jabbed.

Lushmetender · 12/09/2021 15:17

My son has it but rest of us had negative PCR and LFTs since Tuesday. He’s self isolating in his room but we are trying to encourage him outside occasionally eg we had a fire outside with hot chocolate but feel well sorry for him. It is nasty. He must have got a significant whiff
From who he caught it from. I’m really hoping the rest of us don’t get it due to unpredictable nature of it. We had AZ vaccines in may so
Immunity likely to be decreasing.

whiteonesugar · 12/09/2021 15:19

My DH moved to the spare room when he tested positive but my DS is only 6 so we all just went back to normal. 2yr old DS and I both managed to avoid it. It’s bizarre!

CraftyGin · 12/09/2021 15:19

My DD was PCR positive three weeks ago (had only one jab). She had symptoms.

None of the rest of us caught it.

Hels20 · 12/09/2021 15:38

Yes! I got Covid. Finished isolating yesterday. Both my DSs who are in primary and DH who is double vaccinated didn’t get it. They all did a PCR yesterday.

Whataboutme21 · 12/09/2021 15:40

My dd had it 2 weeks ago, I’m not vaccinated yet so was convinced I was going to get it but no-one else in our house caught it.
