Positive stories of not catching it despite household members testing positive?

So we are the house of Covid at the moment. We were in contact with friends who tested positive, so we went for PCRs - DS2 was positive, all others negative. He was pretty much asymptomatic. Couple of days later DS1 felt unwell, positive lateral flow followed by positive PCR. Few days after that, DH came down with it (despite being double jabbed). DS1 has now finished the 10 days isolating. What are my chances of not catching it?? We’re not doing any kind of household isolation as I’ve already been cuddling two Covid-ridden children for ten days, but it feels insane to be sharing a bed with someone with active Covid symptoms but yet be able to go out and see people. I haven’t actually seen people as such despite not having to isolate myself, I’ve been out to the shops and for walks but that’s it. But when can I stop worrying?? I’d quite like to meet up with friends/go into the office next week, but it feels like it’s hanging over me!

I’ve been for a PCR again today. DH thinks I’m silly to test when I don’t have symptoms, but if I do have it asymptomatically I’d rather know ASAP so the isolation finishes sooner!

Anyone got any positive stories of not catching it from household members?

Ds1 (age 10) had it. His only symptoms was a headache and feeling shivery on night. This night he came into bed with me and slept face to face with me. Cuddled in the dd (teenager) on sofa for a film one evening. We found out he was positive approx 3 days later as his friend was positive on lft so we tested him.

None of us in the house caught it (5 of us in today). He also went to grandparents for the day and they didn't catch it either.

@BooseysMom

Reading these experiences it seems bizarre that those living in close proximity aren't all catching it. It's all based on the viral load thing and surely sleeping face to face with someone would mean you're gonna get it! Confused If any of our household came down with it, we could no way isolate as the house is too small!
I suppose though, even though we all know the vaccine for everyone doesn't completely stop you catching or transmitting it - for some people it will. Not for everyone but for some the vaccine will be enough to prevent infection at all. It's just luck of the draw if you're one of those people!

Glad I found this, my year 3 son had covid July and none of us got it, we kept windows open but didn’t isolate him at all. But now my DH has it (very bad cold symptoms but strong positive on lft and then confirmed by pcr). My daughters pcr is negative and waiting on mine. I feel fine but can’t imagine how I can escape given we’ve shared a bed! I decided not to send him to spare room as figured I’d have already caught it anyway. Not sure that was a good plan!

HungryHippo11 · 12/09/2021 16:29

My daughters both had it. They're young so we didn't distance at all, I was hugging them, breastfeeding the youngest etc. I didn't catch it and I had only had one jab at the time. DH and my mum (both double jabbed) didn't catch it either, and nor did any of my daughters friends who she had been at school with the day before testing positive.

Chosennone · 12/09/2021 16:51

Dh had it early summer. Both double jabbed. Me and the DC never got it. I slept in the same bed and cuddled him etc. DC didnt get too close but sat in the same room etc.

SherbertMellons · 12/09/2021 17:03

Husband didn't catch it from me around Christmas and we share a bed!

lightand · 12/09/2021 17:17

My DH didnt get it.
And that was in March 2020 when it was the Wuhan virus itself, no variations.

Avanacho · 12/09/2021 18:48

DH tested positive a few weeks back. I pretty much locked him in the spare room, he used his own bathroom and opened all windows and doors most of the time. DC (under 4) played with him in the garden. Food delivered to his door. We all managed to avoid it

lockdownmadnessdotcom · 12/09/2021 19:06

My boss has twins. They both caught it at school. She and her DH did not catch it from them. I know she was vaccinated with Pfizer, I don't know which one he had.

lockdownmadnessdotcom · 12/09/2021 19:06

(and this was in July, so probably the Delta variant)

mrsdolittle · 12/09/2021 20:47

DS had covid early July. Neither DH or I caught it (both double jabbed). DH tested positive a couple of weeks ago. I didn't catch it.

Jackiebrambles · 13/09/2021 10:21

Just to update my situation I have now tested positive! I feel ok just tired so far but DH is on day 4 of feeling totally rough (he’s gone back to bed which is unheard of for him on a working day!). So as I suspected sharing a bed with him wasn’t the best idea. Though I may well have caught it from him before his symptoms appeared, maybe!!

SirChenjins · 13/09/2021 10:28

DD (double jabbed for ages) caught it.

DH and I (both double jabbed) and DS (14 - so no jab) were all negative and stayed that way.

@lightand

The mutations are much more contagious than the original virus.
Lushmetender · 13/09/2021 11:47

We’re still hoping we don’t catch it. DS tested positive last Tuesday so nearly a week ago. He can come out of isolation on Thursday. He’s been pretty rough. He is self isolating and isn’t sharing a bathroom with us but we are concerned we’ll still get it. My dd are both at school and apparently covid is rife in the school with 4 teachers off with it and loads of the kids got it. Our last double jab was in may.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 13/09/2021 12:02

My DH tested positive 10 days ago. I haven't caught it and neither have the kids. We did pcrs and have continued to do LFTs. We didn't isolate my DH as not practical in our house.

carolinesbaby · 13/09/2021 12:02

A while ago now pre-jabs but me and DH both had confirmed Covid over Christmas. 2 other adults and 2 children in the house, basically all isolating together, in a 3 bed house. Sharing bathrooms etc, no windows open because it was freezing and no social distancing because who can SD from young kids at Christmas?!
Other 2 adults had cold symptoms but both tested negative (several times). Neither child had any symptoms and therefore weren't tested.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 13/09/2021 12:07

I am wondering this too. Dd2 finishes her ten days post positive test tomorrow. DH has another day to go. Dd1 and I so far are negative, most recent test results yesterday.
I don’t know when to stop worrying ? (We have also all isolated). I also don’t know whether if we stay negative this exposure gives us antibodies ?

I'd like to know this as well. DD tested positive yesterday, seems like a (very) bad cold so far, hoping it gets no worse. DH has similar but much milder symptoms and tested neg on LFT and is going to take a PCR tomorrow to allow for a more accurate result. I feel fine, haven't tested yet because none of us are going anywhere anyway and I think it's too early for me to show up as positive yet. Both of us adults are double jabbed.

But I was due to go to a gig and Chelsea next week and my dilemma is do I wait, do tests in a couple of days (have to do LFs for Chelsea anyway and obviously it's sensible for a gig) or do I just accept I'm not going now and give the tickets away?

Tequilamockinbird · 14/09/2021 12:45

So pleased I found this post. I've got really bad health anxiety, and DH has been for a PCR test this morning as has quite a few symptoms. I've been panicking as we can't really isolate from each other, shared a bed last night etc. He woke up in the night with temp, cough, aching.

Fingers crossed he keeps it to himself somehow if he has got it. We're both double jabbed but he had his second jab in March this year as he's NHS. I had my 2nd much later and hoping this will make a difference 🤞🏼

Anon778833 · 14/09/2021 12:51

My cousin and his wife both HCPs - she caught it but he didn't.

Bimblepops · 14/09/2021 13:01

Both my kids tested positive (PCR) last week. DH and I did PCR tests at the same time, both came back negative. They’re pre-teens, so we obviously haven’t put them into household isolation, as they need their parents!

We’ve been doing LFT’s daily and all have come back negative. DH and I are both double vaccinated and he also had Covid last year.

Also, last year when DH had Covid, none of the rest of us caught it, although we did shut him away that time!

knittingaddict · 14/09/2021 15:25

My daughter lives with her partner and both are double jabbed wuth Pfizer. Her partner is slightly immunosuppressed and caught covid recently. My daughter didn't.

Uberstar · 14/09/2021 15:32

I tested positive despite being double jabbed, only symptoms I had were loss of small and taste, and a bit of a cough. I felt fine otherwise.
Slept in bed with hubby, he never caught it, 5 children at home, the older teens regularly lateral flow test and they never tested positive either.

placemats · 14/09/2021 15:40

None sorry. Every household I know personally have all had it eventually. Four in total.

Anon778833 · 14/09/2021 16:01

Also my dd's friend just had it but her mum (vaccinated) didn't catch it.
