After having BOTH vaccines?
Just that really. Wondered if anyone know of anyone that's been seriously ill having been confirmed tested positive for Covid after having both vaccines?

Nope, not a single person.

TheStatusQuo · 28/08/2021 09:55

Yes a colleague and his cycling buddy. The latter was really unwell, both double vaccinated.

CatAlice · 28/08/2021 09:57

@CheeseTiger

Always wonder what people mean when they say someone is “very unwell” or “very poorly”. Hooked up to a machine? Unable to survive without being in hospital?
For me being very unwell meant my oxygen levels dropped so low I couldn't walk or think properly. Not on machines in ICU or ventilation but on a covid ward on oxygen. Definitely wouldn't have survived without being in hospital.

I am double jabbed but CEV so one of those more likely to end up in hospital even though fully vaccinated. I had oxygen for 6 days plus dexamethasone, massive doses of IV antibiotics due to secondary pneumonia, plus daily injection of blood thinners. Covid itself is very high risk for blood clots.
Three weeks now since first symptoms and I'm looking at several weeks more recovery I think.

No.

MeredithGreyishblue · 28/08/2021 12:09

My friend's dad died double vaccinated a month or so ago. For context, he was 81, had a few respiratory illness and generally poor health. But Covid killed him in the end.
In practical terms, he probably had a few more years of deteriorating health ahead of him or, equally, a winter flu could have had the same result.

MrsKeats · 28/08/2021 12:18

No.

TheChip · 28/08/2021 12:27

No. I dont know anyone who has been poorly throughout the whole thing. Vaccinated or unvaccinated.

@AnUnlikelyCombination that's a very sensible and helpful graphic thank you!

Mimilamore · 28/08/2021 14:56

Yes, my nephew, fit 58 with no underlying health conditions. Oxygen for 3 days, improving slowly

KatherineJaneway · 28/08/2021 15:58

Only one but they had major underlying health issues and did recover

Whiskers4 · 28/08/2021 17:04

I know of three people who have been hospitalised, none had had vaccine. One lost their life to covid, one was in hospital a month, ended up needing support at home for three weeks afterwards (sadly he wanted vaccine but they deemed he wasn't well enough on the day), one ended up in hospital a couple of weeks - still says she doesn't feel 100% - fatigue and breathless.

Yes i know lots too

Not everyone is the same

I know 4 that have died… All before vaccinations

Iv known ATLEAST 25/30 people who have had it[/quote]
Yes I know people who have had it too, including DH's best friend who died of it just after Christmas. But I don't know anyone who's had it after being double-vaccinated, which is what I was commenting on.

saltedcaramel87 · 28/08/2021 20:54

Colleague in her mid 30s after one AZ jab (she works in a clinical role so was offered it early before pfizer/moderna were recommended for the under 40s)

However - this was after a couple of weeks of chest pain but no other classic COVID symptoms so she assumed it was a pulled muscle but turned out to be pneumonia. I imagine if she'd got treatment early it wouldn't have been so serious!

Delatron · 28/08/2021 21:11

No. I know lots of people in the first wave and the second wave who had Covid and none were seriously ill. Even an 85 year old who had it very mildly. Pre vaccinations.

everythingthelighttouches · 29/08/2021 13:40

To follow on from the graphic posted by AnUnlikelyCombination here is another which shows as you move left to right how the number of cases of vax Ed people will increase as we vax more people but the total number of cases comes down (top to bottom)

RobinPenguins · 29/08/2021 13:43

No. But I don’t know anyone who’s been seriously ill with it at all throughout the whole pandemic. Just luck I suppose.

MatildaOfFlanders · 29/08/2021 13:43

I don’t know anyone who has been hospitalised at all, vaccinated or unvaccinated.

Lupinhere37 · 29/08/2021 16:08

An acquaintance’s mum. Mid 50s; double vax but has cancer and is in the middle of chemo. Was admitted to hospital only for 24 hours; was pretty poorly but within a fortnight was back out walking her dogs!

Nowhereelsetogo90 · 29/08/2021 18:39

I know loads who have had it, vaxxed and otherwise, but thankfully no one who has been more seriously ill than flu symptoms.

Lbnc2021 · 29/08/2021 18:59

Yes, my father was one of the first to be double vaccinated and he’s currently on a ventilator in intensive care.

Hairbrush123 · 31/08/2021 15:09

My friend who is double vaccinated since March caught covid and is in hospital struggling with breathing. She is CEV.

PlanDeRaccordement · 31/08/2021 15:14

Harvard did some research and found that out of 100 million double vaccinated people, that 10,262 became ill with Covid. Most of these people had mild symptoms. Only 1,000 were hospitalised and of these, 160 died.
