Vaccine

I know this is old news to almost everyone, but I have severe health anxiety and have been putting off getting my vaccine (I know, risk of covid vs risk vaccine but I'm not rational sometimes)

Anyway, I want Pfizer as the wait for 4 weeks to make sure I didn't have a clot would be too much for me. With Pfizer I feel I will be anxious on the day and possibly if I get side effects but it'll be over quicker and I'll be more protected.

So, I'm going to a drop in clinic on Wednesday Smile

Wish me luck.

Oh - 43, no real health issues (well, plenty in my head) white, female.

Lots of awful side effects reported here don't help GrinShock

Siameasy · 23/08/2021 12:47

Me - 45, slim and reasonably fit had both jabs. First one I felt tired after, second one nothing. Got Covid now, day six and feel fine

pfizerfizzer · 23/08/2021 12:53

That's reassuring, thank you! Part of me feels scared to have the vaccine and part of me feels scared to get covid. I can't win Grin

I'm in the same boat. I'm 35, no underlying health issues and have put off the vaccine until now due to anxiety issues around health and the vaccine. I've rebooked it three times already! Anyway, hopefully going to a walk in clinic on Thursday to have it done. The DC going back to school has clinched it for me really.

pfizerfizzer · 23/08/2021 16:18

Yes, that's been a big push for me too @Pinkpowderpuff

Now I've made the decision I feel more worried about getting covid before I'm fully vaccinated - can't win!! Hmm

Good for you for getting the courage to go, it's not easy when you have anxiety

If it helps I had Pfizer. I'm pregnant so was really worried, aside from a sore arm and feeling a bit under the weather (might have been from adrenaline and nerves anyway) I had no side effects, neither did any of my friends who all had Pfizer or moderna becuase of our age groups

pfizerfizzer · 23/08/2021 18:01

It does help @nellly thank you and congratulations on your pregnancy

I've just seen on another thread that the FDA have approved Pfizer fully now so it's no longer an emergency use vaccine in the states. Which is heartening!

Watercoloursky · 23/08/2021 18:08

I'm 34, double-jabbed with Pfizer. After the first one I had a sore arm but no other side-effects... second one I was a bit achey and fluey for maybe 12 hours, but after that right as rain :-) All the best for Wednesday - you will feel so much better for having done it, rather than agonising over the choice!

pfizerfizzer · 23/08/2021 19:31

Thanks @Watercoloursky ! Yes I'm sure I will feel better than the agonising anxiety Confused

I've started worrying about the higher rate of anaphylaxis with Pfizer now HmmBlush

But, at least that usually presents early and then I won't be worrying for weeks

I'm such a pain!!

Whataboutme21 · 23/08/2021 19:39

I’m the same with my anxiety, I think if I could get Pfizer I would talk myself into getting vaccinated but can’t get it where I am as over 40.

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/08/2021 19:45

I'm in my 50's and had pfizer x 2, both my dds in their 20's have had 1 dose. Every member of family in the UK have had the same vaccine. My parents are in their 80's and were fine after theirs.

pfizerfizzer · 23/08/2021 20:04

@Whataboutme21 I'm going to a walk in vaccine centre that only does Pfizer - could you find one locally? I looked on my local CCG website?

OP posts:
pfizerfizzer · 23/08/2021 20:07

Thanks @vodkaredbullgirl Smile

I know other people probably think 'what's she going on about' Grin but it's so hard to get the worst case scenario out of my anxious brain - I see there's a higher rate of allergic reactions and immediately think im going to get one because I have hay fever, eczema and a latex sensitivity Blush

I'll get there, and it's nice to have positive input from people Daffodil

Pinkpowderpuff · 23/08/2021 20:10

I've been worried about heart problems with it and any long term side effects that we don't know about yet. Also worried it'll make the tinnitus I've been struggling with worse.

pfizerfizzer · 23/08/2021 20:22

@Pinkpowderpuff I completely understand - us worriers each have our own things to worry over Grin

If it helps, I've been reading ALOT and the heart issues with Pfizer are almost solely in young men and are easily treated with no long term issues.

Tinnitus, I get as I have it too but if it gets worse it will lessen - it always does

Also, I have been very reassured by reading around the mechanism of the vaccine and feel reassured that long term effects aren't really possible

Pinkpowderpuff · 23/08/2021 20:45

@pfizerfizzer thank you, you have actually done a great job at reassuring me. My only other concern is that I'll already be 'brewing' covid when I go for the jab but will do a LFT that morning and hope for the best.

I hope it all goes well for you and it's as stress-free as possible. It's such a difficult decision for people 'like us' and I haven't found anyone in RL who can understand how it feels to be stuck between a rock and a hard place (or should I say vaccine Vs covid!) because of health anxiety. I wish I could be like the rest of my family who have just went in and had it done then forgot about it. No weeks of agonising over the decision and then still feeling anxious when a decision has been reached.

pfizerfizzer · 23/08/2021 20:51

@Pinkpowderpuff yes, since ive made the decision to get it ive started worrying a little about brewing it before the jab. But, we can only do as much as we can do - test beforehand and be careful

Blimey, I regularly wish I was like others too. Anxiety is a time, energy, and soul drainer.

I know I will be worried for a day or two after the jab in case I have a reaction but I also know that the majority of very serious reactions happen very quickly so I intend to hang around the area of the vaccine centre (nice part of town) for an hour or so. I know that isn't ideal but if it gets me through this then it's going to be part of my plan.

I find a plan helps me a little with the illusion of control Grin

Good luck x

Early 40s. Double jabbed with Pfizer

Bruised arm

That's it

Whataboutme21 · 24/08/2021 08:25

@pfizerfizzer I wish I could but there doesn’t seem to be any pzifer only centres anywhere near me Sad. Good luck on Wednesday, I’m sure you’ll be fine

Whataboutme21 · 24/08/2021 08:26

Pfizer Grin

pfizerfizzer · 24/08/2021 08:30

@Whataboutme21 when I looked on the National nhs site it was giving me places miles away but I looked at my local CCG and the neighbouring CCG website and found one. I hope you find somewhere you can go

OP posts:
RainbowCrayons · 24/08/2021 10:02

I understand the irrational panic. I'm like that every time I get on a plane. I'm convinced it will crash. The thing to remember is that it's anxiety telling you this and it isn't rational and do it anyway! Good luck!

SavoyCabbage · 24/08/2021 10:11

I took my 17 year old to a big walk in centre last Saturday. It was so quick and she was in and out in no time at all. Everyone was so lovely too.

There were an equal amount of 16-18 year olds and older people.

Dd is anaphylactic to peanuts and she forgot to take her epipen 🙄 but nobody asked about any allergies at all.

RobinPenguins · 24/08/2021 10:13

Good luck OP, and the other posters who have booked theirs Smile
I had Pfizer, mild headache after the first and was worried before the second as I’d heard side effects tended to be worse for the second dose, but I had none whatsoever.

Are you sure @SavoyCabbage?

This one of the standard questions they ask when going through the details and getting consent, if they didn't that should definitely be flagged!
