I’m going to have to cancel my holiday, I’m not classed as fully vaccinated.

We’ve booked a holiday for the end of September, as myself and DH are fully vaccinated we don’t have to quarantine on return.

My first vaccine was AstraZeneca and my second
was Pfizer.

I’ve read in the news tonight about the UK now changing their description of what counts as fully vaccinated, and it states that you have to have received two doses of the same vaccine.
(formerly two doses of any approved vaccine)

Im gutted. What does this mean for me in terms of freedom within the UK? If places start asking for proof of vaccination, will I be denied entry now?

If I’m not classed as fully vaccinated does this mean I don’t have good protection against Covid?!

They had him sat in the chair ready to give it to him once he'd given his name (to access the centre) before he could barely tell them he was just trying to cancel it as he'd had his second one the day before.
They wouldn't have got any further, compuet would have said "no".

And why on earth would he have sat himself on a chair in front of a vaccinator when he simply needed to cancel an appointment? Remaining standing would have made it clear he wasn't expecting a jab.

The check-in desk would have been the place to do this, even if he had to firmly stand his ground if they tried to move him on.

Indeed

@Synctfsi

I do have a vaccine passport on the app 🤔
If you've got the vaccine passport then surely that's what they'll scan at the airport? I haven't come into the uk recently so don't know exactly who checks what but i imagine you just queue to have your QR code scanned?
LindaEllen · 16/08/2021 11:59

@CoffeeRunner

How the hell did you get a second dose of a different vaccine?

I've been working at a vaccination centre since December. At no point has that been allowed.

You've not been paying much attention then, have you? Quite a lot of people who had AZ as their first changed for their second due to the emergence of blood clot issues. It's not like you can just walk in and ask for a different one, but it would be recommended by your GP and properly talked through.
Cookerhood · 16/08/2021 14:11

It is allowed under special circumstances (the green book linked to above). One of the reasons is if the person is unlikely to return for a second dose if they are refusing the same vaccination twice.

Exactly. Information from each arrival is put into the system by the vaccinator, and almost straight away the computer would tell them that both vaccines had been received by the person who'd just given their details.

I check people in on arrival to the centre, and it is entirely possible that a previous walk in isn't on that first page, but I still can't imagine a) sending someone to a vaccinator, when they've told me they're here to cancel or b) such a person obediently going to the vaccinator's cubicle without protest!

I flew into Heathrow this morning. On departure on the other end, the BA staff at check-in wanted to see my NHS pass which I got from the app - the one with the two QR codes for the two doses - and the passenger locator form just asked me to confirm I was fully vaccinated on the NHS. No one checked my vaccine status on arrival.

I would go on your holiday and don't isolate on your return - you've got the app saying 2 of 2, if someone comes knocking on day 3 after you get back saying "you should be isolating" you can just show them your vaccine status on your app to confirm you are exempt from quarantine thanks to your double vaccinated status.

CoffeeRunner · 16/08/2021 14:41

I've been plenty of attention thank you, as this has literally been my job since December.

It appears there might be regional differences. The GPs I work for have by no means been giving a different vaccine as a second dose. In zero cases no matter what the circumstances.

How can you possibly know that?

The preference has always been for two matching doses (and still is) but there’s clear provision for exceptional circumstances.

Yes

Here is what I would do OP. Call 119 and ask for a paper Covid certificate there is no expiry so if the law changes u will have this S your vaccine passport
You can order it online too. I think it's easier than faffing around with the app, but it does set out both vaccines clearly, including name and batch, which you may not necessarily want if you are the OP, or like my DH and a pp, had one of the Indian batches of AZ.
MaggieFS · 16/08/2021 18:14

There's another app you can download which is what UK venues are using, called NHS Covid Check or something along those lines. Download it on a different device and scan your QR code. It will soon let you know if you'll have any issues at UK venues. It can't reveal any personal details, it's literally a yes/no answer.

FWIW, in your shoes I would go. You have the proof of double vax in the app.

I have been at every clinic, knowing which vaccine is being used & who is being booked in and then entering the details on the system afterwards.

Strange question!
