I’m going to have to cancel my holiday, I’m not classed as fully vaccinated.

We’ve booked a holiday for the end of September, as myself and DH are fully vaccinated we don’t have to quarantine on return.

My first vaccine was AstraZeneca and my second
was Pfizer.

I’ve read in the news tonight about the UK now changing their description of what counts as fully vaccinated, and it states that you have to have received two doses of the same vaccine.
(formerly two doses of any approved vaccine)

Im gutted. What does this mean for me in terms of freedom within the UK? If places start asking for proof of vaccination, will I be denied entry now?

If I’m not classed as fully vaccinated does this mean I don’t have good protection against Covid?!

@Terhou

Why can't you get the second dose of Pfizer before you go?
@Terhou

Because I’ve already had two vaccines.

She’s already had two vaccine doses. You can’t just rock up for a third.

FFS don't cancel your holiday. It's likely that it will be fine, but if things really have changed then the anomaly is likely to be swiftly fixed. Things change by the day, and if you cancel now and the anomaly is fixed next week, you'll be stuffed.

Fyngal123 · 14/08/2021 23:46

@Synctfsi No one checks. I would suggest you go and have fun!
Think about it, becomes your word against the person that consented you - could they have “missed off” documenting it? No one has the time or resources to check everyone’s medical record.

Synctfsi · 14/08/2021 23:51

@Fyngal123

But am I even fully vaccinated? I’m starting to question if I even have protection now.

Urgh this is really stressful.

My covid passport says which jabs I had. I'm using the one from nhs app and it gives details of date, type and vax centre I had them done.

Sweettea1 · 15/08/2021 00:06

Just check the nhs app (not track and trace app)and see if your covid pass is showing thats all you need and you have had two vacs so it should be there.

Yes you are, and probably better protected than most of us.

This rule change is bizarre, I think there'll be a huge fightback against it (as it was govt guidance that caused people to have a different second jab) and I suspect it will be changed back.

Hippee · 15/08/2021 00:15

@CoffeeRunner

How the hell did you get a second dose of a different vaccine?

I've been working at a vaccination centre since December. At no point has that been allowed.

My friend has also had this combination because of a bad reaction to the AZ one.
Blessex · 15/08/2021 00:19

@Synctfsi just write on your plf form that you are fully vaccinated. Job done. Why the stress?

saraclara · 15/08/2021 00:21

@mamakoukla

Is there a link to a story? Not being today just having a minor panic
This is all I could find.

www.thelocal.it/20210813/uk-changes-travel-rules-again-to-impose-quarantine-on-european-arrivals-who-had-mixed-vaccine-doses/

saraclara · 15/08/2021 00:23

The link doesn't make it clear whether it applies to UK citizens, or just to arrivals of nationals of other european countries.

Mammaaof · 15/08/2021 00:28

@Synctfsi I'm 26 had 2 AZ. They told me there was more risk by mixing 2 different vaccines and would absolutely not mix them even tho there was blood clots in my family, the risk was after the first dose not the second I was told. Anyway I'm still here to tell the tale had my second one back in march x

mamakoukla · 15/08/2021 00:35

@Synctfsi yes - I understood that - I’m just wondering how the UK can suddenly not recoil vaccination combo it delivered. This is what I’m struggling with (DH is mixed vaccines as well so we are a bit invested in this). I hope it all gets sorted for you soon. Could your local MP offer clarification?

mamakoukla · 15/08/2021 00:35

Petition letter to parliament so it’s discussed

Mykittensaremyfriends · 15/08/2021 00:36

OP I'd ring 119 and ask them if it's possible to book a second dose of the Pfizer. They should hopefully be able to offer some advice.

justfuckoffthelottayer · 15/08/2021 00:56

Where are you going? If you have NHS app and covid passport and it says fully vaccinated it should be accepted where countries accept NHS. Some countries have medical exemptions for ecertain things u need to look on embassy website of where you are going or ask them. You can travel without being jabbed if you test and as UK say you have been fully jabbed you won't have to quarantine either.

me4real · 15/08/2021 01:00

Aww you're a worrier like me @Synctfsi . Try not to worry about it. You can ask your GP for reassurance about whether the vaccines yor doctor prescribed for you, are enough. Smile

I imagine the guidelines for people coming in to the country are mostly for non-residents. You cuuld probably phone somewhere and double check if you like. I can completely imagine thinking this way myself. Grin

Even if you do have to take some other measures, you have well over a month to sort it out. xx

BoomChicka · 15/08/2021 02:05

Ignore it and crack on, do you really think they have the time or ability to track the vaccine brand given to every passenger arriving back in the UK? The world has gone utterly mad.

Yes, if your NHS info has 2/2 there, how/why do you think they are going to check the details associated with that. There is no capacity for that type of detail if you were done in the UK and are coming back into the UK.

Banani · 15/08/2021 06:02

OP. Well clearly my vaccination service has abided by government guidelines & yours hasn't. You should take it up with them.

Mixing of vaccines is not the preference, but is permitted in circumstances where it is needed, such as local availability or inability to complete the double vaccination, Heath responses, refusals etc. It is detailed in the green book, p18/19, assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1007737/Greenbook_chapter_14a_30July2021.pdf

Mindymomo · 15/08/2021 06:14

I would think you’re ok to go on holiday, having had 2 different vaccines. You have your covid pass, perhaps also get a paper letter from nhs as well. Both Pfizer and AZ are approved vaccines, so cannot think there would be a problem.

bearandowl · 15/08/2021 06:26

@Bigballer

So first you had to have two of the same vaccines, then it was okay to mix vaccines but now it's not okay to mix vaccines. Same as the manufacturers said 3 weeks between doses, government then said 12 weeks but are now saying 8 weeks. Doesn't sound like anyone knows what they are doing.

No thanks I will trust my immune system until these vaccines have been fully tested and all the variables are known.

This.
