I’m going to have to cancel my holiday, I’m not classed as fully vaccinated.

We’ve booked a holiday for the end of September, as myself and DH are fully vaccinated we don’t have to quarantine on return.

My first vaccine was AstraZeneca and my second
was Pfizer.

I’ve read in the news tonight about the UK now changing their description of what counts as fully vaccinated, and it states that you have to have received two doses of the same vaccine.
(formerly two doses of any approved vaccine)

Im gutted. What does this mean for me in terms of freedom within the UK? If places start asking for proof of vaccination, will I be denied entry now?

If I’m not classed as fully vaccinated does this mean I don’t have good protection against Covid?!

Thanks @Synctfsi

Not sure what to make of this but yes, shown to give a better outcome but now not recognized 😞

SalubriusSalamander · 14/08/2021 23:04

Yeah any link to this? I've had real trouble sorting out my mums vaccine status. She had AZ in England and then moved to France and had Moderna.

Synctfsi · 14/08/2021 23:04

@CoffeeRunner

Hang on. If the NHS app states you have had 2 doses of 2 what is this thread even about?

I was assuming it was not recognising your second dose.

@CoffeeRunner

Because the GOV uk are saying that unless you’ve had 2 doses of the same vaccine you’re not counted as fully vaccinated.

Which means I must quarantine on my return from
Holiday, which I can’t do as I am office based and need to return to work.

@CoffeeRunner my aunt (also in UK) had mixed vaccines. She went to a walk in for her first jab (Az) but then had an operation before the second that meant she couldn't get out and had to have it via the home visiting team. They could only offer Pfizer so she then had that one. Just so you know it's definitely been done here.

myrtleWilson · 14/08/2021 23:08

@CoffeeRunner I also know of Pfizer being approved for second dose to AZ first dose

mamakoukla · 14/08/2021 23:08

Sorry trying to get my head around this - the UK isn’t recognizing its own vaccinations? Surely this needs to be challenged

BeenThruMoreThanALilBit · 14/08/2021 23:08

Are you coming to the U.K. for a holiday? Otherwise I don’t see that this is relevant

robotcollision · 14/08/2021 23:09

I know several people who had AZ for the first jab and Pfizer for the second.

@mamakoukla

What it is saying, is fully vaccinated is classed as two doses of the same vaccine.

In my case I’ve I’d two doses but of different vaccines.

The gov uk website did previously say two doses of any approved vaccines, which suggested mixed vaccines were recognised.

BeenThruMoreThanALilBit · 14/08/2021 23:11

Ah, just caught up.

That last bit from the extract you’ve copied and pasted is old science, given that boosters of any type are being approved around the world.

I think by the end of September this rule might change. But, it’ll mean you’re on tenterhooks. So sorry OP, that’s such a bummer.

CoffeeRunner · 14/08/2021 23:11

@xdecd actually yes, we have mixed vaccines in similar scenarios. I had forgotten that as I don't do home vacs. In our patients case though it would be those who had Pfizer as dose 1 then became housebound so had to have AZ as dose 2 because it's more portable.

OP. Well clearly my vaccination service has abided by government guidelines & yours hasn't. You should take it up with them.

Synctfsi · 14/08/2021 23:11

@BeenThruMoreThanALilBit

@BeenThruMoreThanALilBit

No, I’m from the UK.

I’ve booked to go on holiday and now I’m going to have to quarantine on my return as i’m not recognised as fully vaccinated.

Because the GOV uk are saying that unless you’ve had 2 doses of the same vaccine you’re not counted as fully vaccinated

But if the NHS has you down as fully jabbed who is going to know that they were different. Do you mean that your own conscience will make you quarantine? How would anyone official know that you should?

So I should just risk it and go?

OP posts:
Synctfsi · 14/08/2021 23:14

I do have a vaccine passport on the app 🤔

OP posts:
Changemaname1 · 14/08/2021 23:15

Honestly just go who’s even going to know ? It says 2 of 2 on you’re vaccine thing . I’d go

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 14/08/2021 23:23

So I should just risk it and go?

It's not my place to tell you whether to go or not but I"m wondering what the mechanism is for people quarantining when returning from abroad. Is it an honour system or does someone tell you that you have to do it? If the latter you won't be told as the NHS records say you are double jabbed

SW1amp · 14/08/2021 23:30

@CoffeeRunner

How the hell did you get a second dose of a different vaccine?

I've been working at a vaccination centre since December. At no point has that been allowed.

I know loads of people who had the first dose of AZ before the rule changed to not allow it for under 40s so had to have the second dose as something else

I very nearly had AZ then Pfizer because I was pregnant for my second jab and AZ wasn’t yet licenced for use in pregnancy, but managed to dodge it and get 2x AZ but the centre was refusing to do it

And there were loads of threads on here from people too scared to get a second AZ after the blood clot stories who were actively seeking out Pfizer for second doses

Fyngal123 · 14/08/2021 23:31

You can have 2 different vaccines and it’s recognized. If someone had a serious reaction to the first dose, they can have a different brand and that’s recognized as fully vaccinated. As long as it’s on your NHS record as 2 vaccines you should be okay.

@Fyngal123

It is. But wouldn’t the gov uk supersede this?

I mean would anyone check when I re enter the Uk.

OP posts:
Suprima · 14/08/2021 23:36

You have a vaccine passport on the app

Ergo, you are fully vaccinated

Don’t cancel your holiday

Mrstwiddle · 14/08/2021 23:36

I had AZ in the U.K. and then Moderna abroad, both vaccinations are listed on the original NHS card but no idea if it will be accepted in the U.K. or not. Probably not!

Suprima · 14/08/2021 23:37

@Synctfsi

They are not going to check, you are not going to be fined.

Mrstwiddle · 14/08/2021 23:38

Sorry, that’s not really relevant to the OPs issue, but I don’t understand why two vaccinations of different types are an issue, I’m sure I read somewhere it gave you better protection.

Terhou · 14/08/2021 23:38

Why can't you get the second dose of Pfizer before you go?
