I’m an anxious person and massive worrier.

My son started with a cough and cold last week.
He was tested and it was negative.

On Wednesday my husband and I have both started with awful colds.

I have a blocked nose, dry hot throat and I genuinely feel rubbish. I don’t ever remember feeling this bad with a general cold before but I’m not sure if anxiety is making me feel worse.

I have taken my temp this morning and it’s 36.8 - is that high for this time on a morning?

I went for a PCR yesterday. I’ve done lateral flows (have to do them for work) and they are negative.

I feel convinced my PcR will be positive.

We went to a busy restaurant and then supermarket on Saturday afternoon. I had my mask on but many didn’t :(

Yes lots of other things around. Hope you get your results soon and start to feel better.

@AlexaShutUp

Our area seemed to have done by GP surgery rather than age; so I know people in their 20s double jabbed from certain surgeries and then other who are 36 -38 still waiting! My 37 year old neighbour got her first 2 weeks ago and had to drive an hour away!

theworldsbiggestcrocodile · 06/08/2021 09:46

I feel the same OP symptom wise but my lateral flows and PCR came back negative. So I just think I have an a normal cold... chances are you will too-And if not then as Pp said you will be fine-you'll just have to hunker down and self isolate.

Bypassed21 · 06/08/2021 09:46

I agree with a previous poster who commented that anxiety is your biggest issue here.
I can totally understand why you are anxious @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor and I'm sure you're not alone in worrying about Covid.
I think you probably just need to distract yourself. Turn off all your social media temporarily - stop watching the news - get off Mumsnet!! Grin
Hopefully you just have a regular cold but even if it is Covid the chances are your symptoms will be mild.
Take some paracetemol, grab yourself a hot drink and relax in front of a Netflix boxset.

Take care Flowers

Beckham19 · 06/08/2021 09:50

If it helps, I'm suffering with the same symptoms. Full of cold, ears blocked, sore throat and general rubbish. LFT was negative. Think it's just a stinking cold.

Chocolateemergency · 06/08/2021 09:52

@Dandy008 if it helps I’ve got a cold with negative PCR tests and this is genuinely the worst I have ever felt. Temp is normal but every part of my body is aching.

Bubbublish · 06/08/2021 10:01

"That makes no sense.

30f you would be frozen.

But 80c you would be a scrambled egg."

Oops, I meant 38.4 c.

I've got covid and my brain is all muzzy!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 06/08/2021 10:03

there’s plenty of other viral illnesses doing the rounds

It's still only 1 in 10 people who go for a PCR test (due to symptoms) who come up positive. Most people just have a cold.

I'm on my third cold since being double jabbed. Negative tests all round.

Bubbublish · 06/08/2021 10:04

"I think you're getting a bit mixed up here.

Neither 80 degrees Fahrenheit or 80 degrees centigrade would be compatible with life.

You need a new thermometer or to learn how to read it properly (I mean this in the nicest possible way)."

Sorry guys, definitely getting mixed up, meant to say 38.4 c

I'm in the same position with BMI - was 32 pre-lockdown, now 35 and it does really worry me. However, I know people who've had Covid - before vaccination - at a similar size and been fine.

The past year has been hard. Two lockdowns with a toddler and no childcare while trying to work at home. No normal day to day exercise, which was how I stayed fit and healthy. No access to the gym. Comfort eating because it was literally the only nice thing to do. It's only now I'm fully vaccinated, have had a holiday and it feels like life is a little more normal that I feel mentally able to tackle my weight. And I'm sure I'm not the only one.

You can just go book though, if you're in the UK? I'm 39 and had my first in May, via the NHS website.

I know some 25-35 year olds who are still waiting to be eight weeks past second jabs, but there's absolutely no excuse for not having your first one by now.

WorldsBestBoss · 06/08/2021 10:25

I don't know if this will make you feel better or worse but my MIL who is 82 is overweight, elderly, has prediabetes, lymphedema, diverticulitis, extremely high blood pressure and a breast cancer survivor. She frequently needs multiple courses of antibiotics when she gets a cold as it always settles in her chest.
She contracted covid earlier this year, before having any vaccinations. We were all so worried. But she was absolutely fine, spent a couple of days in bed with a bunged up nose and a cough.

I also know several obese people who have had covid and been completely fine, so please don't get too worried about that aspect of things.

Take care and look after yourself.

I think this is the same for a lot of people. Over eating/not exercising can be a symptom of depression and I think some posters on here would do well to remember that.
Dontwatchfootball · 06/08/2021 10:33

Take a deep breath. Slow down. Tell yourself you will manage whatever comes up as you have managed before. If you worry a lot in advance, when negative things happen you experience them twice. Once when they happen, once in advance. Why tire yourself out like that?

Can you skip the GP and just use the online service instead?
In England, anyone aged 18+ can use the online service generally, though it might not be the closest venue.

Twokitstwokats · 06/08/2021 11:53

Sounds like you have caught a cold from your son. Anxiety and weight are definitely more of a worry.

Dandy008 · 06/08/2021 13:41

Well sometimes a bit of tough love is what we need.

Lose weight. You've had 18 months knowing that being obese is awful for covid. A vaccination shouldn't be enough to make you think that being obese is healthy.

And sometimes kindness is just the better option.

It’s easy to sit behind a screen and offer tough love to a faceless stranger.

You don’t know anything about me, or my life.

I’m well aware how long Covid has been around, and not once have I ever though being obese is healthy! I certainly don’t use the vaccine as a reason to stay obese!

I had my baby boy last year shortly before lockdown 1. My husband works away and after his two week paternity, he was back working away, no furlough as he is classed as essential worker.

The plan had gone from having my mother in law helping out to being completely alone (mother in law CEV and was shielding)
I’m sure super mum will come along to say that’s no reason to gain weight, but hey…. I’m not super mum.

I struggled and I gained weight!

My husband was made redundant, I had to end my mat leave early to go back to work, we very nearly lost our house, it was a friggin stressful time.
I’m surprised I’m not an alcoholic, if it wasn’t for breastfeeding I might have been… food just had to do!!

So yes, I’ve gained 2 and a half stone since my son was born!!

Your tough love isn’t needed or wanted.

I’m making great changes and the weight will be off before I know it.

I came here for some Covid support not to be judged by narrow minded posters.

Guessing this must just be a cold too.
I’ve never felt so poorly with a cold. It’s floored me 😣

Dandy008 I hope the horrible posters haven’t got to you and made you feel worse. So glad your result was negative. Rest as much as you can, lots of fluids and regular paracetamol and hopefully it’ll be short lived!

AlexaShutUp · 06/08/2021 14:27

Great news, OP.

Glad your test was negative - now try to get some rest and be kind to yourself Thanks
Dandy008 · 06/08/2021 14:53

Thanks all. Waiting for my husband to get in from work then I will be heading to bed! Don’t think a cold has ever sent me to bed before!! 🤦🏻‍♀️

We've not had them properly for months though, so it's bound to hit a bit shittily. Especially when anxiety is involved. I'd have a weekend of chilling the f out in bed/on the sofa/drinking hot drinks.

As for the weight thing - I did restricted hours eating, significant reduction in calories, did couch to 5k etc through the first lockdown - in 10 weeks I lost 100g. Haha - the weight of a decent poo. Losing weight is hard, don't beat yourself up about that one.

Take care!
