I’m an anxious person and massive worrier.

My son started with a cough and cold last week.
He was tested and it was negative.

On Wednesday my husband and I have both started with awful colds.

I have a blocked nose, dry hot throat and I genuinely feel rubbish. I don’t ever remember feeling this bad with a general cold before but I’m not sure if anxiety is making me feel worse.

I have taken my temp this morning and it’s 36.8 - is that high for this time on a morning?

I went for a PCR yesterday. I’ve done lateral flows (have to do them for work) and they are negative.

I feel convinced my PcR will be positive.

We went to a busy restaurant and then supermarket on Saturday afternoon. I had my mask on but many didn’t :(

36.8 is possibly the most normal, fine, not raised temp you can get!

I know that’s normal, I just wasn’t sure if it’s bit high for this time on a morning.

I think everyone has different "normal" temperatures. My DS normal is usually over 37.

Its stressful waiting for PCR results but hopefully you will know soon. If you are feeling rubbish you probably wont feel like going anywhere anyway, even if it turns out to be negative. It might be covid presenting as a cold, it might be a different cold (I think "the common cold" is a different coronavirus)
Hope that you get a result soon, and that you start to feel better soon.

Iusedtobesoooomuchfun · 06/08/2021 08:37

There's no such thing as morning temperature and evening temperature.

Even if it is covid... You're fine. I'm sure your son is fine too. And your DH. You're all fine.

You're not going to suddenly die if the result is positive anyway. You will feel the exact same as you do now.

You're fine.

MintMatchmaker · 06/08/2021 08:39

No it’s not high at all for any time of day.

Hope your test comes back negative, there’s plenty of other viral illnesses doing the rounds.

whatswithtodaytoday · 06/08/2021 08:40

Are you vaccinated? I can understand the anxiety, but you won't suddenly feel worse if the PCR is positive - it'll probably just be a heavy cold, you'll feel rubbish for a few days.

But if your child was negative last week it's most likely going to be negative anyway.

AlexaShutUp · 06/08/2021 08:41

Presumably you've been double jabbed, OP? So even if it is covid, you will probably get it very mildly.

Your temperature sounds absolutely normal.

Tbh, anxiety sounds like your biggest problem here.

MRex · 06/08/2021 08:43

You feel the way you do, that won't change based on a test result. Your DS had a negative test, so it could be the same non-covid infection or could be covid. Either way drink lots of water, have paracetamol, use cough sweets or medicine to soothe your throat and then take a nap. Get well soon.

Yes. Doubled jabbed.

Morning,

I feel your worry (hugs).

I've just tested positive and my temperature has been anywhere between 37.7 and 38.4. Tablets bring it down a bit but not back to normal. Your temperature is fine.

Try not to worry, easier said than done I know

YarnOver · 06/08/2021 08:47

There's no morning or afternoon or any other time of day temps.

Perhaps you might have got that idea from when people track their morning temp to see if they're ovulating - but that's a REALLY small shift in temp, nothing to do with this.

queencrunch · 06/08/2021 08:47

There is a common cold doing the rounds too. Take a LF test. Don't panic. I appreciate the anxiety your feeling but you will be ok x

MadeOfStarStuff · 06/08/2021 08:48

You’re vastly more likely to have caught your sons cold than to have caught covid from brief contact in a supermarket, especially being fully vaccinated.

Your anxiety is probably making you feel worse but colds can be horrible.

@queencrunch

I’ve done LF’s and they are negative. (Did one Monday and Wednesday for work and then one this morning)
I’ve read that people have tested PcR positive with negative LF’s though so I guess I can’t really take the LF’s as not having Covid.

Morning,

I feel your worry (hugs).

I've just tested positive and my temperature has been anywhere between 37.7 and 80.4. Tablets bring it down a bit but not back to normal. Your temperature is fine.

That makes no sense.

30f you would be frozen.

But 80c you would be a scrambled egg.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 06/08/2021 08:51

People need to be far more realistic about all this and accept that Covid isn’t going anywhere. The panic over every sniff and cough is just off the scale. This isn’t meant to sound harsh, but living in fear of a virus that is barely problematic in the vast majority of people is madness. It’s nonsensical and unhealthy and by far the bigger danger.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 06/08/2021 08:53

Body temp is lower on the morning and higher in the afternoon but you seem fine. Try not to panic, you feel rubbish but you'll get better x

Dandy008 · 06/08/2021 08:53

I know, you’re right. I just feel really nervous about having Covid.

Why? If you do have it, you know you're fine. You're not suddenly going to feel worse when you look at the word positive.

What are you actually worried about?

WorldsBestBoss · 06/08/2021 09:01

I think you're getting a bit mixed up here.

Neither 80 degrees Fahrenheit or 80 degrees centigrade would be compatible with life.

You need a new thermometer or to learn how to read it properly (I mean this in the nicest possible way).

Dandy008 · 06/08/2021 09:02

@RoseRedRoseBlue @Iusedtobesoooomuchfun

It’s not really Covid that scares me, it’s the thought of having to go into hospital, being ventilated, or worse Covid killing me.

I hate the thought of leaving my son.

I know there’s lots of other illnesses around but perhaps the fact that Covid has been In the news and it’s all we ever heard about for the last 18 months, just makes me worry even more.

OP posts:
Iusedtobesoooomuchfun · 06/08/2021 09:04

Why would covid put you in hospital? Are you over weight? Have a health condition? Smoker?

RoseRedRoseBlue · 06/08/2021 09:08

@Dandy008 but you could have an accident or unexpected illness at any time that landed you in hospital. This is an unlikely scenario, don’t indulge it!

Dandy008 · 06/08/2021 09:09

I also…. I have a high BMI and it’s actually the first time in my life that I’ve been considered “at high risk” from something.

BMI was overweight prior to having my son but
-tipped-- okay jumped, into the obese category since. Blush
