Would you test for loss of taste for an hour?

Just that really?

No I don’t usually have any problems with my taste.

Exactly OP, it's a bit odd to lose your sense of taste ...unless of course you have Covid. Mind you if it's only for half an hour it doesn't count 😉

Cornettoninja · 29/07/2021 20:37

I would test even though it was only fleeting. I don’t know about anyone else but I don’t regularly experience losing my ability to taste Hmm

mrsanflowerpot · 29/07/2021 20:39

Yes (please do). This was also my sister's only symptom on day 1 and lasted an hour or so - and my children (inc shielding DS) were going for a sleepover the next day. She tested, it was positive, they didn't go, she had more symptoms from day 3. I'm super grateful she thought to test.

Katie517 · 29/07/2021 20:41

The hypochondria and health anxiety that is going to linger long after we have finished talking about covid is going to be huge!

FloFlower · 29/07/2021 20:47

How on earth have you diagnosed me with health anxiety and hypochondria?! 😂😂

My point was this hyper awareness of every single thing. So if I had a temp that lasted 30 minutes should I get a PCR test? I don't know anyone in real life who would ever do this!

I actually do agree with you, I think everyone jumping to test at every little thing is ridiculous but when I had covid I literally had a temp of 38.7 for about 20 minutes and never again. Just a wicked sore throat and tiredness (and mine would have been the good old fashioned Kent variant)

So really, unless we test constantly for every little thing we wont catch every case and it's just not feasible to do that.

For example, I get hayfever and have asthma. Its not unusual in hayfever season for me to lose my sense of taste and smell, I wouldn't test as I've had it for as long as I can remember.

Also, during my period my temp raises a good 2-2.5 degrees, again why would I test if that's my norm?

Testing for a symptom is one thing, but I think folk have forgotten how to stand back and look at things with logic. Doesnt delta present like a cold? Are we testing cold symptoms as well now??

Where does it end??

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/07/2021 20:52

Health anxiety? Confused

Schrutesbeets · 29/07/2021 20:54

No, I wouldn't get tested regardless of any symptoms to be honest

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/07/2021 20:55

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/symptoms/main-symptoms/

Main symptom listed is loss of sense of smell/taste even if mild

Farwest · 29/07/2021 20:56

It's such an unusual symptom that yes I would test. (It's not like a sneeze FFS.) I've sneezed plenty in life but never lost my sense of taste or smell.

Hope it comes back negative for you, OP.

Katie517 · 29/07/2021 21:19

@FloFlower it wasn’t aimed at you specifically but at posters who insist they would test even if they sneeze twice in one day. Yours is a different situation as it’s not that common to lose your taste for other reasons. I still wouldn’t test if that was the only symptom though.

FloFlower · 29/07/2021 21:34

Ah right @Katie517, I got the wrong end of the stick. Sorry! However, it did make me laugh a little bit.

Unfortunately I now don’t feel very well at all. So I’m definitely going to test.

I would say no, but when I had Covid I only lost my sense of smell very briefly, as in for a few hours. So it's definitely possible!

Covidworries · 29/07/2021 21:54

Yes test. Tests are back the next day normally so if negative you can go about normal buisness then but if positive you will know.

Its pretty clear why Delta is going to spread through when so many people dont test

LilyPond2 · 30/07/2021 00:56

DS noticed loss of taste when eating his evening meal. Taste returned the following day. No other symptoms. Tested positive for Covid. Anyone experiencing loss of taste (however fleeting) should get a test.

FakingMemories · 30/07/2021 04:22

You lost your sense of taste for an hour? How do you know? How often do you eat? Maybe I lost mine for a few hours yesterday between meals, but how would I know….

Mindymomo · 30/07/2021 08:06

Hope you feel better soon and get your PCR test result back negative.

chellingham · 30/07/2021 08:23

My only Covid symptom was a razor sharp sore throat for about ten hours. After that I was right as rain. Tested positive

RandomMess · 30/07/2021 08:28

So far my only symptom has been a headache and bit of a sore throat did a LFT just in case, then DC did one and 3/5 positive so PCR booked.

Turns out DC had random headaches earlier in the week and now have slight sore throats.

I am not surprised it's spreading because the symptoms can be so mild and varied.

caughtinanet · 30/07/2021 08:34

How do you know you only lost it for an hour? Do you eat something every hour? I'm intrigued by how you can be so specific

Did you have a meal that you could taste then have the next meal that you couldn't taste then have something more to eat an hour later that you could? Theoretically it could have gone and you have no idea because you aren't eating anything Grin

Also interested in the poster who lost their sense of smell for a few hours, again, how do you know unless you are regularly smell testing Smile

caughtinanet · 30/07/2021 08:35

Grin I didn't see this before I asked exactly the same question Grin

We need to be told!

FloFlower · 30/07/2021 08:44

😂 I had my lunch about 1 and couldn’t taste it. I left it about half an hour and ate a polo mint which I still couldn’t taste. So I then went through the cupboards every few minutes sampling the strongest tasting things I could find and it came back about an hour after.
