Thought some of you might find it interesting.

hard to reconcile the coincidence of the location of the lab - one of few specifically researching and working specifically with nerve agents - and the location. I mean, what are the odds really?

PP was talking about the Skripal poisonings being wrongly blamed on Russia, since proximity & capability are what takes to prove culpability, right?

The fact they just got away with completely going against the Hong Kong agreements tells you all you need to know about it.
Even if the lab was to blame. Nothing would happen.

Thanks for posting, I too will read this later. I've thought the whole time that the location of the lab made it highly likely it was a leak rather than the wet market.

In a way it's reassuring - the randomness of an animal/market link is more scary to me than human error. Hopefully all these facilities will increase their safety now.

I haven’t had a chance to read it yet but there have been reports of covid 19 in italy before the outbreak. Could it be possible that China identified an already existing virus?

No. There is also evidence of a virus spreading in China at the same time faecal samples show covid in North Italy...which had many Chinese clothing manufacture labourers.

@1dayatatime

My key take from the paper and the best argument against the wet market theory is the following:

"in February 2020, a research paper coauthored by two Chinese scientists, based at separate Wuhan universities, appeared online as a preprint. It tackled a fundamental question: How did a novel bat coronavirus get to a major metropolis of 11 million people in central China, in the dead of winter when most bats were hibernating, and turn a market where bats weren’t sold into the epicenter of an outbreak?"

I don't think it's ever been claimed that the virus passed directly from bats to humans though, has it? I thought the theory was that it passed though an intermediary host, often believed to be the pangolin, which is traded (illegally) in Chinese wet markets?

That, or pangolin dna was used in any gain of function research which may have been performed.

This update from the fabulous Dr John Campbell discusses an "editing error" by the WHO in a report on the original of the virus .

While not taking a stance on the lab leak theory either way, I'm not sure this proves anything. Many of the links are tenuous. The scientists work in epidemiology and virology and attend the same conferences/work with each other/collaborate on research. The Wuhan lab is one of the major virology labs (one of! Not the only!) in the world. It would attract funding and researchers. They would research coronaviruses, among other viruses. I'm not seeing a conspiracy here.
