Just wondering what recent experiences people have had with PCR tests. We did one a few weeks ago and it was back within 18 hours, but I think the system is struggling more now. Anyone got any recent intel for me? (We're in the South-West, if it matters.)

There was an op on here yesterday who got one back about 22hr after- obv no idea where is she though. Hers was negative. Don’t know if the positives come back quicker or if that’s a myth!

Crunchymum · 25/07/2021 15:15

14 hours in London, this was 5 days ago (last Tuesday)

Crunchymum · 25/07/2021 15:16

Was negative by the way!!

Have done quite a few since May (all negative). Longest was 28h and quickest was 8h.

Thank you! First-world problem, but kids are chomping at the bit to get on with their holiday plans (assuming it comes back negative of course).

Got one done at 2:30 yesterday and still waiting. But in my experience morning tests come back quicker.

barnanabas · 25/07/2021 15:47

Hope your theory about morning tests is right for us. And hope you get your own one back soon.

Worst wait among my family/friends was four days - that was last year though and I think it's generally all running a bit more smoothly these days.

12 hours last week for us.

mummyh2016 · 25/07/2021 15:52

29 hours last week for us.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/07/2021 15:53

We always take the tests before noon, and have always had them back before 9am the following day.

Best return was dds the other day - 9.30am test, 1.30am result

NotThisWeekSatan · 25/07/2021 15:53

Posted yesterday lunchtime and got results at 1pm today so almost exactly 24 hours. These were home tests. And one positive and two negative so a bit of each!

whatismyusername73636 · 25/07/2021 16:48

I'm in the southwest and had a result (negative) back within 11 hours a few weeks ago. Cases have dramatically increased though which may mean it takes longer - or maybe quicker if there's more demand? Quick turn around in tests are needed so the right people are being told to isolate ASAP!

Pissinthepottyplease · 25/07/2021 18:40

12 hours for us last week.

Hermanfromguesswho · 25/07/2021 18:43

Tested in centre 10am Friday and had result 4pm Saturday. Positive

DrDreReturns · 25/07/2021 18:48

DS had one a couple of weeks ago. It took about 30 hours. We are in the West Midlands.

BarefootHippieChick · 25/07/2021 18:58

Midlands here, ordered a home test on Thursday evening, arrived Friday and sent it back same day, received results Saturday evening

NellyTimes · 25/07/2021 19:39

Oxfordshire here, mine took about 48 hours.

Benji13 · 25/07/2021 19:43

Son aged 20 in Liverpool atm took 3 days. Tested Thursday result today.

I work on covid comms and was told last week capacity issues test results taking 2-3 days in some areas.

Namechange13101 · 25/07/2021 19:44

Bedfordshire here, did test at 3pm Friday result back at 11pm Saturday

McCheney73 · 25/07/2021 20:59

Also in South West so probably not what you want to hear but nearly 4 days and no results 😡

Tried chasing it up and it's been reported but could still take another 3 days.

Since done another one today. Its not the first time they lost my test..

My son's nursery made him get tested

MimosaFields · 25/07/2021 21:23

I've had several private ones done for flying abroad. Those came back in 12 hours. The ones on return (during quarantine) take between 12 and 24 hours. I had a day-8 test done just this morning, and no results yet. I guess it's slower on Sundays. I don't really mind as the quarantine finished on day 6 so this PCR is just a waste

coachmylife · 25/07/2021 21:25

About 30 hours (London). Done on Fri, back Sat afternoon.

sparemonitor · 25/07/2021 21:25

Went online this morning at 8.45 to book, was at test centre at 9.30am, result texted at 9.15pm! pretty impressive

Darbs76 · 25/07/2021 21:26
