If you're still mask wearing, when will you stop?

Do you have a 'line in the sand'?

Depending on what happens with numbers and variants- I'm thinking 'once all adults have had the chance to be double vaxxed'.

I'll stop when covid stops, I have to protect my patients.

Some people do take mask wearing to the extreme, I saw a guy wearing a mask whilst cycling in 30c heat a few days ago. Why? Just why?

Hay fever? Masks help enormously.
Cyclists have been wearing masks longer than we’ve had a pandemic. It filters out pollutants from traffic - you’d be surprised at home much black crap you can blow from your nose when you cycle on roads.“

Oh I agree Apenguin. Not a cyclist but I always notice when I’m in London in particular that when I blow my nose the tissue is black. That’s just from walking about on pavements.
Masks make sense to me. Most cyclists I see aren’t panting, either, they’re very fit (Annoying sods 🤣)

NotSoLongGoodbye · 25/07/2021 10:22

I will not be continuing to wear a mask once I am legally allowed not to (Scotland). No point if the majority of people have ditched them.

Manzanilla55 · 25/07/2021 11:45

My hayfever is much better owing to wearing a mask.

TattyDevine · 25/07/2021 12:55

When I am back from my holiday it will come off in retail settings.

If I'm in a place where I have a personal interaction with someone like if I was having my eyelashes done and the therapist has to wear one because the salon owner says she has to, I will too in solidarity for the fact she is.

If I go to a medical or dental situation where the practice asks me to wear one I will.

Anything "fun" I won't, because it's not fun with a mask. Retail, leisure, etc. If their rule is no mask no entry, I'll go somewhere else. I think it's nice that some places are doing this, because there are people who don't want to go to these places if others are not wearing masks, but in terms of myself, I'll find the place that doesn't request the mask.

Like others, case rates would have to drop quite a bit. I also have a vulnerable partner and tend to wear proper FFP2/3 masks if indoors with others (supermarket etc).

To be honest, it has really cut down on street harassment for me. No one's shouting after me to smile, no one's catcalling - it's lovely. I normally travel quite a bit on my own for work, spend a lot of time at hotel bars and similar settings - if wearing a mask (even if just a cloth one) will help to cut down on creeps coming up to me when I just want to read a book or get some work done, then it may just be worth it...

toolatetooearly · 25/07/2021 13:13

Who knows? Next year sometime I imagine.

lollipoprainbow · 25/07/2021 13:31

We still have to wear them from what I can see even though we have been told they are now mandatory! Everywhere I have been since July 19th I have seen mask wearing everywhere.

Watapalava · 25/07/2021 13:35

I’ve just come back off holiday and so missed last Monday

I cannot belive how many people are in masks

The vulnerable are double vaccinated what the hell are people scared of? It’s crazy like watching a load or zombies in Aldi today

Watapalava · 25/07/2021 13:35

I’ve only been back a day and haven’t worn them anywhere I’ve been and it’s been lovely

TheKeatingFive · 25/07/2021 13:40

I'll stop when covid stops

So never then?

MintyCedric · 25/07/2021 13:53

I think I'll be wearing them in shops and on public transport for the foreseeable future.

Went to an outdoor event yesterday which was lovely...like normal life, but everyone still wearing masks on the train there and back.

It's just common sense really at this stage.

PraiseBee · 25/07/2021 14:02

Forever! Mask wearing has all but stopped men leering at me and it's bliss. Hood up, mask on, no turning back.

Cornettoninja · 25/07/2021 14:14

@MercyBooth

Money buys a high standard of general education

As well as the deliveries the people you denigrated brought to you during lockdown.

Assuming what you said its right maybe its because people less well off know that the community rhetoric is just that..............rhetoric. Because it only gets trotted out when its Covid related.

So you’re saying there isn’t a huge gap in standards of education in areas of deprivation compared to areas of higher incomes and that it’s patronising to recognise that? I’ll just put my own lived experience to one side too eh? How’s it helpful to anyone to pretend that it’s ‘patronising’ to point out the clear unevenness of access to education across the country? It’s certainly not something that’s only trotted out in relation to covid either, it’s been a huge problem for decades.

You don’t know dick about me either, I worked through all three lockdowns in a hospital (non-clinical) in an open plan office with thirty other people and never once managed to get a supermarket delivery slot so you can wind your neck in over that too. I’d have considered becoming an Amazon delivery driver to get out of that incredibly unsafe working environment but I can’t afford driving lessons….

Cosybelles · 25/07/2021 14:21

I will wear mine until I feel like I don't want to any more, but that's subjective and there are no criteria or anything that must be fulfilled before that happens.

igelkott2021 · 25/07/2021 15:22

@nordica

I'd be happy to continue long term in some situations like busy public transport or GP/dentist etc waiting rooms.
Me too, especially in winter flu season.
TattyDevine · 26/07/2021 21:09

Husband was in London today and reckons barely 50% on the jubilee line had one on

CirqueDeMorgue · 26/07/2021 21:27

Already stopped, I have to wear one at work for hours and hours every day so that's enough for me.

Disappointing to read. Covid aside, pretty sure less commuters would contract regular viruses etc. if masks were commonplace on public transport.

WhiteChocTwix · 26/07/2021 21:35

I don't know at the moment. Probably when cases have dropped away in autumn / winter and DF's care home aren't insisting on testing for relatives anymore. Still feels a bit weird that with a negative LFT we can go and socialise in communal areas again. Got my 1st face to face job interview since March 2020 tomorrow and a bit worried about what impression it'll make that I'm still wearing a mask. Then again mask wearing doesn't bother me or the rest of the family so we're all cracking on for now. 🤷‍♀️

GlomOfNit · 26/07/2021 21:45

I have no idea. Does it really matter? I'm happy to continue to wear one in crowded indoor public spaces. I have lots of friends who were shielding - some of them, because work allows, have felt they had to resume a semi-shielding lifestyle. Sad I value them and I want to protect others in their position.

If the current mutation (and any that follow it) eventually become more benign and become the dominant strain. If vaccines really do seem to be twatting this thing into the ground. If we see cases on the floor. Then.

I really don't see the issue. Of all the restrictions, wearing a mask rates - for me - as one of the least inconvenient. I find travel restrictions, gathering, impact on education etc have been a lot more disruptive for our family than wearing a mask in some situations! This is a global pandemic, you would surely expect some different living conditions for a while. I can't get over the childish whining about what is pretty much a minimal inconvenience for the vast majority of people.

I've been on the Jubilee line today too and would say more like 80% of people wearing masks. Mostly younger men not wearing them which is frustrating as vaccination rates are lower among that age and gender cohort too.

@GlomOfNit all well said!
ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 26/07/2021 22:00

@ GlomOfNit

Absolutely spot on and well put! It’s just a mask but it can help to save lives - all lives! A little intervention with a big positive potential impact.
