If you're still mask wearing, when will you stop?

Do you have a 'line in the sand'?

Depending on what happens with numbers and variants- I'm thinking 'once all adults have had the chance to be double vaxxed'.

When my employer allows it - probably never as it's medical!

VanGoSunflowers · 24/07/2021 17:30

For me, it’ll be when it’s socially more acceptable not to.

clarkkentsglasses · 24/07/2021 17:31

I don't get this attitude of wearing one if you're sick

Why the hell would you knowingly go out sick anyway?

Pre Covid, I would never have gone out if me or my DC had been sick, colds, sick bugs etc - why would anyone be prepared to pass that on amongst other families or at work?

So I'm not going to start going out sick now with or without a mask

bengalcat · 24/07/2021 17:31

When the pandemic is over - 2022/23?

Lotsachocolateplease · 24/07/2021 17:31

I went clothes shopping today and it was interesting to see how many people were still wearing masks - I’d say about 70% still wearing them, myself included. I bumped into a work colleague (nhs) who wasn’t wearing one which I thought was interesting, but it’s now personal choice of course.
I think I’ll stop wearing one when numbers are down and staying down, but I can’t put a time on that.

clarkkentsglasses · 24/07/2021 17:31

Being no longer a legal requirement I would say that's pretty socially acceptable

DumplingsAndStew · 24/07/2021 17:33

Well, not at least before the legal enforcement to wear one has stopped.

But likely still for a while in busy indoor places if cases and illness is still high, especially after social distancing is dropped.

But I'll probably still wear one from time to time at least over winter for a while yet. Maybe even forever at times.

TraumatizedFlower · 24/07/2021 17:34

@DancesWithTortoises

From now on I will always wear one if I think I have something infectious to protect others. It's the civilised thing to do.
So all people not wearing masks are uncivilisedHmm

This is what I've hated about the pandemic, nasty people ......

You stay at home if you or your children have a cold? No shopping, no appointments, no school or work?

Blimey

ChocOrange1 · 24/07/2021 17:34

I couldn't care less about masks for myself. I only wear it because it might make others feel more comfortable. The majority of people in my town are still wearing them.

I haven't got a specific line in the sand, I expect they'll gradually fade away as fewer people feel the need to wear one and then I'll decide the same.

DoingItMyself · 24/07/2021 17:34

When they make it illegal. I like my mask.

Berniesknittedmittens · 24/07/2021 17:34

I won't stop wearing one. I certainly won't wait for Boris and co to say it's ok. I work in a hospital and cases are doubling every couple of weeks.

woodhill · 24/07/2021 17:35

As Long as needed. They do hide a multitude of sins anyway

Cornettoninja · 24/07/2021 17:37

I will stop when the HCP’s I know stop looking tired and terrified so probably when either we can (somehow) either increase medical provision to deal with the presentations we see or cases stabilise at a manageable level.

I accept we’re all going to be exposed to covid at some point; I’d like the best access to medical care I can if I need it and I want the same for the people I care about.

I wouldn't go out if I had D&V or a sickness bug (not had one for over 35 years so fingers crossed won't get one any time soon), but if had a mild cold I'd do as I've always done and go to the supermarket if I needed food or medication and to work, and would probably wear a mask. I probably wouldn't do much if any socialising as I tend not to feel very lively /sociable when I have a cold.
Keepithidden · 24/07/2021 17:39

Quite comfortable wearing one when indoors so no issues with it being permanent. But then DW is CEV so I have to be careful anyway.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 24/07/2021 17:40

Pretty much what chocorange said

I wear one into shops…especially those that have said they prefer mask wearing to continue

Same with restaurants etc

FizziWater · 24/07/2021 17:40

When we go from dark purple to green I'll reconsider.

gardeninggirl68 · 24/07/2021 17:44

i wear one for 8/9/10 hours a day doing a manual job in a warm building with no air con

to be honest the customers dont consider us they pull masks down to speak to us, walk round with them under the nose, if they wear them at all....its clear retail workers are not bothered about

so i'll probably stop soon

ILoveToads · 24/07/2021 17:44

Probably when the figures are lower and when all age groups 18+ have 2 vaccinations. I'm not too concerned about it, but I feel sorry for shop workers who have no choice but to work in a place where a large turnover of people are visiting. So it's more for them than me.

I'm not judging anyone who doesn't wear one.

Kazzyhoward · 24/07/2021 17:47

When I'm happy that case numbers are low enough to feel safer. If we weren't in one of the highest infected areas of the country, I'd probably already have stopped wearing in some situations (i.e. quieter shops) etc., But given we're in the country's top 10, I'm keeping mine on for the time being. Even when cases are much lower, I'll still wear one in crowded areas, in hospitals, on busy public transport, etc, probably for many, many months.

Cardboardeaux · 24/07/2021 17:48

@CaptainMyCaptain

I think the Japanese (and some other countries) have the right idea, wearing a mask when they have a cold to protect others. I don't mind wearing one, I could carry on for a long time.
Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought part of the reason for wearing masks when unwell in some East Asian countries is because it is deemed rude to blow your nose in public?
LadyPenelope68 · 24/07/2021 17:49

I’m in a hot spot area, so I won’t be getting rid of mine for a long time yet.

3teens2cats · 24/07/2021 17:49

I will stop when we get to the point where catching covid doesn't have a knock on impact to the whole household. So when only the infected person has to isolate. Isolating sucks i don't want to put my family through that again.

Throughabushbackwards · 24/07/2021 17:52

Places that had big SARS outbreaks have had many people wearing masks regularly ever since. I think there's no harm in continuing to wear one in certain circumstances where you know you'll be in close contact for a period of time. I'll keep wearing one on public transport and in cramped shops.
