What's actually changing tomorrow?

LifesTooShortYOLO · 18/07/2021 20:10

Like really?
As far as I'm aware many restaurants, zoos attractions and supermarkets have made a social media statement saying they will be keeping restrictions on place ie booking online before, cashless, social distancing and masks are advised.
So WHAT IS actually going to be different from tomorrow?

OP posts:

Technically everything as all restrictions are being lifted.

But there are guidelines and advice etc etc and still isolating for another month.

So I would imagine some places will keep restrictions so they don't have mass outbreaks and staff shortages due to isolating.

But things like cinemas, theatres, restaurants, public transport can have full capacity, no masks and no sd.

Why anyone would want to do that when that's what schools are like and we've seen how it's spread there I have no idea!

StealthPolarBear · 18/07/2021 21:08

@Whenthedealgoesdown

Also National Trust needn't be booked anymore
Oh that will be good!
ihatefacemasks · 18/07/2021 21:09

The only thing I will be doing differently is not wearing a mask. I have no desire to have a large gathering or go to a nightclub (PMSL at the thought). I can't see my extended family as one of them has cancer so is still shielding. I have no desire to get close to anyone in a supermarket, or indeed to anyone to whom I am not related. I have a quiet life with my DC and a few good friends.

But as a menopausal woman who suffers from overheating at the best of times, I loathe masks and will not continue to wear one once they are no longer law.

MyGardenSanctuary · 18/07/2021 21:09

@FindingMeno

What's going to happen is that loads of us who deal with the public in our workplaces are going to be faced with droves of people not wearing masks and not socially distancing.
Which they are perfectly and legally entitled to do.
DaisyWaldron · 18/07/2021 21:10

I'll be much more at risk of catching Covid at work, so will be cutting down on my other risks, which means avoiding most contact outside my house.

CrystalBollocks · 18/07/2021 21:10

I am also going to go to church again, as I have been put off by the sodding masks. I am not proposing to sit near anyone else, though.

itsgettingwierd · 18/07/2021 21:12

My garden lots of things are legal.

It's legal to drive down the motorway at 70mph.

But it doesn't mean people do it in torrential rain, storms, snow, low sun etc.

They make risk assessments and adapt their behaviour accordingly.

It would be nice to think as a general public people will do the same re masks and SD and consider those around them as well as themselves.

Whenthedealgoesdown · 18/07/2021 21:13

From National Trust email:
We’re following Government guidance and are lifting social distancing rules and other Covid restrictions from 19 July at places in England. The booking system has been an important part of managing social distancing during the pandemic, but now restrictions are lifting you’ll no longer need to pre-book your visit to most places in England.

For smaller properties where booking has been introduced for guided tours, or to manage visitor numbers for other reasons (such as ferry capacity), you’ll still need to book your visit in advance.

FindingMeno · 18/07/2021 21:13

@MyGardenSanctuary yes, not denying that.
Doesn't alter that I think its bloody stupid.

paxman · 18/07/2021 21:14

Yup, positive cases in school- it’s up to NHS t&t not schools. They may choose to but don’t have to.

SkankingMopoke · 18/07/2021 21:15

Our local sports centre is returning to normal classes and systems. The upside of this is that DCs can once again do leisure swims for free as a perk of their swimming lessons. It means I can take them in the holidays for £3.50 (for me) instead of £10.50, and we won't be kicked out after an hour. The downside is we will no longer be allowed to sit poolside for lessons, and will be back to the sweatbox of a viewing gallery...

All the businesses that weren't allowed to open will be open.

Not everywhere is keeping restriction in place, the gym I attend sent an email yesterday saying as from Monday they will be operating at full capacity and face masks not required when entering/leaving but customer still had to wipe down equipment

DaisyWaldron · 18/07/2021 21:16

I'm a bit torn about church. My second dose will have kicked in by next Sunday, and I was really looking forward to going, but if more than a handful of people won't be wearing masks, then I'll be sticking to the zoom services and the occasional early morning communion at the cathedral.

newusername2009 · 18/07/2021 21:26

Daisywaldron - as far as I am aware most churches are planning on keeping one side of the church for this who want to continue wearing mask and distancing - I know at ours he has already asked those who will not be wearing masks etc to stay on one side so those more worried can feel safer on the other side of the church.

TheVampiresWife · 18/07/2021 21:34

I'll be a few days away from going to my first gig in almost two years and I'm so excited I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep this week Grin

User135644 · 18/07/2021 21:34

Covid parties are opening (aka nightclubs)

PTW1234 · 18/07/2021 21:36

Most people I know are not changing a thing, they will wear masks, their employers are still WFH etc etc.

I do expect abuse for wearing a mask though 🙄 I raised a thread in feminist chat it’s already started.

TheFormidableMrsC · 18/07/2021 21:39

I don't plan to change anything at the moment. This evening my 22 year old DD has messaged to tell me that her internship is currently suspended as the entire company has had to close due to Covid sweeping through. She's currently isolating as was pinged twice with T&T, once from her internship and another from her Saturday job.

At least 10 of her university friends are currently suffering with Covid. I am stunned that anybody thinks lifting restrictions is a good idea, and Boris and Sunak think the rules don't apply to them.

I am not a Covid doom monger, far from it. I've had to be extremely careful as I was diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of the pandemic. I am also a single parent with a primary aged child at home. We've done our best and will continue to do so. I think what is happening tomorrow is a mistake 🤷🏻‍♀️

MotherOfDemons · 18/07/2021 21:42

Tomorrow they put it all on us so that if it goes tits up they "told us to be sensible" and "only have yourselves (ourselves) to blame for lockdown 3".

DrMadelineMaxwell · 18/07/2021 21:44

Fuck all.

(I live in Wales)

Do you really expect abuse from still wearing one? I'm not being goady I'm just curious? As the polls say most people will continue shouldn't you be in a majority? I'm exempt and am actually looking forward to being able to go to a shop for the first time in a year! I wouldn't abuse you but I would give you a wide berth! As I would think you are still concerned xx
Pantene23 · 18/07/2021 21:48

Dance classes can go back to full capacity so fc owners can actually pay themselves a wage rather than just break even. Nightclubs can reopen…they provide a lot of work for people.

Parker231 · 18/07/2021 21:49

I’m continuing with mask wearing and social distancing as is everyone I know. Many of our local shops are still insisting on masks as is London transport.

lompolo · 18/07/2021 21:52

I work in a NHS hospital.

Current screensaver is to remind staff that despite big changes outside the hospital from 19th July, inside the hospital it is no change.

We are still to WFH if possible, wear masks, keep 2m apart, hand wash and keep windows open etc

Local cases are higher now than at any point in pandemic and hospitalisations are rising, thankfully deaths not so much so.

insisting?? do you mean 'strongly encouraging' as they have no way of insisting legally. If one person complains they were denied entry for no face mask the company will be in trouble
