Moderna jab

Yawnattack · 18/07/2021 19:42

I recently registered for the Covid jab and will be offered either Pfizer or Moderna. All my friends and family were given Pfizer and had no side effects other than a sore arm.

Has anybody had Moderna and had any side effects particularly around changes to their period?

I had a look online and it seems that Pfizer and Moderna are basically the same just a different brand. Does anybody know if that is right?

Thanks for the help

Moderna and Pfizer use the same technology but they are not the same vaccine.

Mreggsworth · 18/07/2021 19:49

I had moderna, no side effects

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 18/07/2021 19:53

I had moderna at the start of June, no side effects for me, dh had the appointment after me and had a sore arm for about 12 - 16 hours but other than that we were all good.

pumpkinmamma · 18/07/2021 20:14

i had moderna on Monday about 9am. developed a headache that afternoon that took 2 doses of paracetamol to shift, and had a sore arm for about 24 hours

DaisyWaldron · 18/07/2021 21:05

I had my second dose a couple of weeks ago. I felt ill and had a very sore arm the day after the vaccine, and was tired the day after that, and was fine from then on.

DS says he & 250 colleagues all "suffered" from Moderna side effects. Next day they all went on exercise (military) which meant about 6 hours (total) sleep over 5 days; nobody withdrew. So I don't think they suffered that badly from Moderna, given the tough exercise they were on.

He's not going to have asked the females about periods so can't help you there.

Most my American contacts had Moderna, they never mention any side effects at all.

flingingmelon · 26/07/2021 18:49

My period was a week early after my first jab. Just had my second and starting to feel not great - which is why I'm on this thread. Felt fine after the first one.

averylongtimeago · 26/07/2021 18:54

DH and I have both had 2 x Moderna jabs. Can't tell you about periods because it's a few years since I had one.
We both had a bit of a sore arm, not painful just a little tender.
He had a headache- couple of paracetamols solved that. We both felt a bit tired the next day- sort of hungover. That was after each jab. Slightly worse the first one- but nothing to be concerned about.

alwaystrying1234 · 26/07/2021 18:58

I had my 1st moderna in May and it delayed my period by 10 days. I'm always on time so think it must be linked. I had my 2nd jab yesterday and got to admit I've been feeling rough since last night, hoping it goes away soon.

nordica · 26/07/2021 19:00

I had flu like symptoms after my 2nd Moderna from about 30 hours post-jab and then felt back to normal around the 48 hours post-jab mark. Tired, a bit of a temperature, some chills, generally achey and stiff - walking around felt like a struggle and had to wear a big sweater even though it was a warm day. Had a day on the sofa with Netflix, a take away in the evening and then started feeling better.

PullTheWeeds · 26/07/2021 19:09

I've had one moderna jab, sore arm and quite tired that night. No issues with periods, I've had 2 since the jab on exactly the day I was expecting each time.

KihoBebiluPute · 26/07/2021 19:13

I had moderna and was a bit feverish and under the weather for 3 days after each jab, but no noticable effects on menstrual cycle as far as I can detect.

It's not surprising that there's a huge variety of different responses to the vaccine given that there's a huge variety of different symptom patterns for when people get the actual disease. Gathering anecdotes isn't going to help you because a collection of anecdotes tells you nothing about the probabilities - its the double-blind trials that each vaccine had to pass before being approved that establish that the statistical probabilities of serious side effects are low enough that they are significantly outweighed by the benefits.

Regularhuman · 26/07/2021 21:16

First jab moderna, nothing but a sore arm. 2nd jab also Moderna, I felt poorly that night, but as the next day progressed I felt fine again.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 26/07/2021 21:20

I've had the first jab. I was fine that day then had a very sore arm for the next two — I couldn't lift it above shoulder height. Then the third morning it was completely fine again.

It also delayed my period by three weeks, but it did eventually turn up!

Shadowboy · 26/07/2021 21:27

Moderna here- sore arm and hugely swollen lymph nodes in my armpits and neck. Armpits now normal - neck still swollen a month in. Will need to head to the doctors for this. Neck is noticeably swollen as in other people can see it.

Period now a week late.

Choccymumma · 26/07/2021 22:43

@Shadowboy I have a lymph node up too. On my collarbone, still here after second jab! All tests ok, seems a common side effect with the Moderna.

FrazzledCareerWoman · 26/07/2021 22:53

Moderna here
Period 12 days late
No other side effects other than fatigue and sore arm for 24h
Period thing drove me insane

MercyBooth · 26/07/2021 23:30

Im going to try going to a walk in clinic for this tomorrow.

DramaAlpaca · 26/07/2021 23:37

I no longer have periods so can't comment on that. After the first one I felt tired and washed out for a coupleof days. Exactly 24 hours after Moderna second jab I started feeling as if I was getting flu. Twelve hours later all symptoms vanished.

DH and two adult DC had Pfizer and apart from a sore arm they had no side effects at all.

From friends who've had it, symptoms ranged from nothing at all to spending two days in bed feeling lousy.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/07/2021 00:31

I’ve had two Moderna jabs. First one, just a sore arm. Second one, sore arm, plus felt rough the next day - like a bad hangover. I’m on the PoP so don’t usually have periods as it’s back to back, but I had one after each jab.

IndigoC · 27/07/2021 00:55

The second period after my first Moderna was 10 days early but the next one, after my second jab, was perfectly on time. I think for the most part these vaccines are causing minor interruptions/changes in some but it’s a fleeting thing. A flu can delay a period so it makes sense that a vaccine that also puts the immune system under load could too.

MissDollyMix · 27/07/2021 10:24

Dh and I both had Moderna. He was right as rain after both jabs. I was tired and had a very sore are for about 48 hours. Not effect on my menstrual cycle at all.

Cazzovuoi · 27/07/2021 10:30

I had no issue with the first one besides a sore arm. Second one, I had some feverish moments and was a bit tired but otherwise fine.

No issues around period timing or cycle.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 27/07/2021 10:41

I wonder if it might affect you more or less based on where you are in your cycle? My jab was in the middle, so I wonder if it delayed ovulation or something.

florafoxtrot · 27/07/2021 13:42

Had first Moderna dose 10 weeks ago, period came on a few days early. Period after that was pretty regular. Had second dose yesterday and I'm on a breakthrough bleed after a failed IVF. I hope it goes back to being regular again.
