Bad cold symptoms and covid

LilacGlasses · 18/07/2021 09:11

Myself and Ds have cold symptoms . Sore throat, coughing, sneezing, runny nose etc and can’t smell/taste coz we are so blocked up. All the usual cold stuff and it doesn’t feel any different to me than a really bad head cold.
I’m waiting for the phone line to open (work nhs) so I can arrange pcr tests for us today to be on the safe side.
We have both been doing lateral flow tests anyway for our jobs and they have been negative. but I know they aren’t so accurate. Ds also just had his first jab two days ago which probably accounts for some of his symptoms.

Anyone had similar?

I’ve had this and tested negative. My best friend has this and tested positive. There’s a lot of covid about at the moment, and also a lot of summer cold.

Hopefully you can get a test and negative result soon. Flowers

LilacGlasses · 18/07/2021 10:31

Thank you. Tests booked for this afternoon so hopefully all ok. Best getting it checked I think.

I've had this this week too. Started with sneezing, sore throat, then runny nose/blocked nose, then a cough. Lost sense of smell for 24hrs. Haven't had pcr results back yet but lfts have been negative. I also had my second jab last week so could be connected to that but we shall see....

TiddleTaddleTat · 18/07/2021 10:47

Same here OP. DH and DD had this over the past week and needed PCRs to rule out COVID. I now have the same but it feels much worse than a cold because I'm very fatigued. Waiting for PCR home test to arrive.

LilacGlasses · 18/07/2021 11:38

It’s hard to judge whether it’s just a bad cold or covid but with cases spreading the way they are I don’t want to put anyone else at risk.

Currently the same. Had pcr done this morning. Lateral flows have been negative but better safe than sorry.

WorldsBestBoss · 18/07/2021 15:02

Currently have all the symptoms described on the Zoe app for Covid in people who are double jabbed (I am). Also loss of taste which I've never had before without having a super blocked nose.

PCR came back negative which I'm glad of but I am doubting the result as I am in an area with very high covid numbers.

I think there's a virus with similar symptoms doing the rounds in our area. Child at DD's school had it, then DD, then DH, now me. All have tested PCR negative so far but are snotty with sore throat, fatigue, temperature, and cough.

Whereabouts are you located? We have the same thing in my area too!
RuthW · 18/07/2021 15:57

Yes. Dd was positive with cold symptoms in Dec.

MarthaHanson · 18/07/2021 16:02

Had all these but negative PCR. Is going around.

TiddleTaddleTat · 18/07/2021 16:21

@Bingo78 South Yorkshire

Crunchymum · 18/07/2021 16:29

Have had all of my 3 kids tested since Mid May for a nasty cough and cold (and of course they didn't get ill at the same time)

All had a negative PCR result.

Middle DC was the worst and despite getting a negative on the Monday she actually wasn't well enough to go back until the Friday. My other two weren't as poorly but it was a nasty one!!

OhRene · 18/07/2021 16:30

My sister, niece and nephew all tested positive. Theirs symptoms are that of a terrible cold that's completely wiping DSis out. She's miserable.

LilacGlasses · 18/07/2021 16:30

Test done and now we wait. Shall update when results are in.

Let us know OP. I have also done a PCR, today. Feels like a really bad cold to me, I don't feel this tired with a cold though. Self isolating in cases

TiddleTaddleTat · 19/07/2021 17:30

In case

poshme · 19/07/2021 17:41

My lateral flows continued to be negative other than on one day. I had positive PCR with horrible cold symptoms

OrangeBananaFish · 19/07/2021 17:43

I feel like I have a bad cold. Runny nose, achy back muscles, going from hot to cold to hot to cold etc, headache. No cough, temp or any loss of taste or smell.

Tested positive on LFT this morning, currently waiting for PCR result. The rest of the family tested negative this morning on LFT. Will organise PCR for them if I'm positive.

Kakey1294129 · 19/07/2021 17:46

There is other viruses going around at the minute. Quite a nasty one locally to me in the schools. Kids off with chesty coughs but mint are covid positive. My daughter had a nasty cough and she was negative.

I have a sore throat. Nothing bad. Don't think it's even viral as I do suffer with sore throats even more so in the dry hot heat usually but I feel if I get worse tomorrow I'll go get a test!

treedragon · 19/07/2021 18:26

I can attest to this. Developed sudden cold symptoms Friday night with constant sneezing fits. By Saturday a temperature of 38.0. LF Tests 12, 14, 16 and 17 July Negative. 17th Saturday afternoon was when I noticed the temperature so booked a PCR test. Was seen within 30 minutes. Result also came next day Sunday as Negative so thatwas quick. LF Sunday night negative and LF this morning negative. But full on cold symptoms with temperature, bad throat, sneezing aching still going on.. Not sure where I picked it up as not been to shops since 23 March 20 and will continue doing things from home where humanly possible.

EasterIssland · 19/07/2021 18:49

I’m trying to book a test for the same reason … I’ve had 5lft and all negative but meant to fly this weekend to see my family who I’ve not seen for year and a half so worried about bringing them something
But the nhs website keeps telling me that it’s down

LilacGlasses · 19/07/2021 20:57

Got test results back and negative but still waiting for ds test results so all still isolating. Got mine after 11 hours but ds is 18 hours and still waiting despite being done at the same time. Annoying x

My dd and her boyfriend have rotten colds , hacking coughs and loads of sneezing- we’re waiting for their pcr test results but dd was buzzed today by the covid app and has been told to isolate for 3 days.

EasterIssland · 19/07/2021 23:21

That’s good you got your results back that early (and they were negative) I’m hoping for mine to come back sooner. I really think my 37.7 was because of the temperature outside today , but I’ve had bad hay fever all weekend and was worried it could be something else. I’m flying this weekend so want to make sure I’m safe to
