I'm really angry and upset over the hugely disproportionate number of children being told to isolate.

It's completely ruining their mental health and for what?

I fully expect a whole bunch of catastrophises to come along and tell me how terrible it is and "long covid" but the actual data does not support that narrative and definitely does not show isolation to be in any way effective at preventing spread of the virus.

Well, it's almost end of school year, days of isolation will be over in few days.

Halfwaytoholiday · 16/07/2021 16:13

Disproportionate to what? Not sure I understand

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 16/07/2021 16:14

My daughter was sent home today to self isolate . We did a LF test it was negative . She will do a PCR test even if that comes back negative the school have said she is STILL NOT allowed to go back for 10 days .
Yet if I took her on holiday for 10 days I’d be fined
I’m Fucking furious

HSHorror · 16/07/2021 16:18

Proper isolation does work. Not isolating in a house where others go to work and school untests unsurprisingly doesnt.
It's spread through our school even with isolation.
Easier to keep in those who want to catch it or have a camp for them for eg

duffeldaisy · 16/07/2021 16:19

“definitely does not show isolation to be in any way effective at preventing spread of the virus.”

It’s a virus. They have to have a human (or sometimes animal) nearby to jump to. If they don’t then they die out.
What about isolating possibly cannot work?

The only thing that might not work is if people don’t take isolating seriously. Otherwise of course it’s successful.

Seriouslymole · 16/07/2021 16:38

Couldn't agree more. It is totally disproportionate. Unless they have kept records to show that e.g. 40% of the rest of the bubble go on to develop Covid it is a TOTAL nonsense.

It feels like this is going on forever. I'm sick to death of it now.

User3billion · 16/07/2021 16:39

@HaveANiceFuckingDay indeed & this is going to be the protocol from Monday.

Plus there's the fact if you've been on holiday you can test and release on day five. 🙄😡

Please link to the data.

Only one more week till end of term top and some school already finished. Only another month till under was no longer have to self isolate.

Uramaki · 16/07/2021 16:46

It's ruining my mental health so I can only imagine what it's doing to the kids

It has to be disproportionate relative to something else. So as a PP asked, to what is it disproportionate?
Uramaki · 16/07/2021 16:47

I mean I get why they are doing it but I hoped they would have found a different method by now like daily testing.

chocolateorangeinhaler · 16/07/2021 16:49

It's not ruining their mental health at all for gods sake, stop being so dramatic.

If anything it's teaching them that stuff doesn't happen as planned and it's not their fault.

What does damage anyone's mental health is being told you have a mental health problem by someone totally unqualified to make that judgment. That's called emotional abuse in my book.

We are on the second lot of isolation since half term - first one they ended up sending whole school year home for 2 weeks, he was back in for 5 days and sent home again.

I believe there are 39 weeks in the academic year (England) DS has attended in person for 23 weeks since September due to lock down and periods of SI due to being a close contact. I'm not great at maths but even I can work out he's missed face to face teaching for over 40% of the year.

He's never once tested positive.....

Shocking

thereisnophalange · 16/07/2021 16:53

My DD went back on Tuesday after 10 days isolating only to be sent home again today to isolate for another 10 days.
It's a load of crap and I'm absolutely sick to the back teeth of kids bearing the brunt of this.
It's so damaging to their mental well-being.

We'll be paying the price for this in years to come.

TableFlowerss · 16/07/2021 17:17

I bet you’re frustration OP.

Some people think only physical health is important and they stick their hands in their ears and shake their head when you put it to them how kids are suffering.

TableFlowerss · 16/07/2021 17:18

They just bang on about covid deaths yada yada (even though the average age of death is 82 and that’s the average covid death)

GreenWheat · 16/07/2021 17:20

This is why it is under review and will likely be ended in August. And not a moment too soon in my opinion.

0None0 · 16/07/2021 17:21

I can’t understand why anyone who can keep their children home is not going so now.

Schools are full of covid.

If you don’t want to be told to self isolate, don’t send your children to school

ineedaholidaynow · 16/07/2021 17:23

We will shortly see if isolation is better than nothing, as we will shortly have nothing!

Our school have made it clear, we aren't allowed to choose online learning.

Then sent my son home this morning to isolate Confused

0None0 · 16/07/2021 17:28

I don’t mean stay home and demand online learning. I mean just stay home and miss the end of term

Arsebucket · 16/07/2021 17:28

My 7 year old has had 4 lots of ten day isolations. Her school has been a ghost town when she has been in due to other years being off too.

40 bloody days.

Thank god we have a garden.
