If you have young adult children, what are they thinking about the vaccine?

Just reading that uptake among the young is flattening and so wondering what your young adults and friends are thinking about taking the vaccine? Mine are early twenties and have both had a first jab and desperate to get the second. Both will go to a walk up as soon as possible. On the whole their friends have the same attitude so I’m wondering if they are unusual given the stats?

I only know young people who are waiting to be old enough to get jabbed, and young people who have had their first and are chomping at the bit trying to get their second moved earlier.

NHS friends have told me take up is lower than in other age groups but all of our social and family groups have been dead keen.

HeartShapedBalloon · 14/07/2021 18:47

Mine are 19 and 21. Both got them done as soon as they could.

IHaveBrilloHair · 14/07/2021 18:47

My 19yr old has had both doses, her 21yr old BF has had his first and will have the second as soon as he can.

@EileenGC it's pfizer.
Everything I'm reading suggests bigger gap= better immunity. It's true the manufacturer recommends 3 weeks but that's only because it was tested and licensed for 3 weeks.

My dd is keen to get her second jab due to concerns over long Covid. Vaccination is thought to reduce the risk of this.

Taken it, why wouldn't they.

Indeed. It makes sense. It isn't only about not dying

@loulouljh

All these young people rushing for it..I hope for their sakes there are no long term side effects. Alot of young lives at stake here. If my kids were at that age I would be telling them to not have it as so much unknown.
Oh my. Shakes head. Have a Biscuit you sound really dumb
TheTallOakTrees · 14/07/2021 22:47

The vaccine Centre did a walk in clinic and a huge number of young people turned up. They obviously didn't pay attention to the anti vax nonsense being spread.

mibbelucieachwell · 14/07/2021 22:49

All the young adults I know were very pleased to get their first dose. DS has been given a place on a course in Germany in September. Four individual weeks between then and February. He will hunt out a second dose as soon as it's allowed.

The only personI know who hasn't had a vaccine is a pregnant 30+ woman and I know a middle aged person who got hers a long while after she could have as she was worried about the vaccine causing her long lasting Covid symptoms to flare up.

MojoJojo71 · 14/07/2021 22:56

24yo DS was very keen to have his and managed to get his second Pfizer jab at a walk in clinic about 6 weeks after his first. He was finally comfortable enough to get on a train to visit which was lovely

Northernlurker · 14/07/2021 23:35

Mine are done. One is a medical student and the other is vulnerable. They got it as soon as they could. Both double jabbed.

Backofbeyond50 · 14/07/2021 23:38

17 year old keen to have it.

DramaAlpaca · 14/07/2021 23:42

All my 20 somethings are desperate to get it as soon as they can. We're in Ireland so bookings open to register for a vaccine later this week for their age group. One of them has managed to book a vaccine with a pharmacy next week. He got on their list as soon as it opened - they now have a very long waiting list.

Lupinhere37 · 14/07/2021 23:43

My DD 17 is desperate to get her’s. 7 of her cousins, all over 18 got jabbed as soon as they could.
The only younger person we know who won’t be jabbed has an anti vax DM, who didn’t even give MMR, etc. She relies on echinacea to protect them….

Saracen · 15/07/2021 00:47

My 21 year old has been desperate to get their first jab and is wondering whether their second one can be brought up at all - hoping to get it before they return to uni.

Some comments in the thread cover why the rate is flattening in the young.

123abcyellowredblue · 15/07/2021 02:28

DS22 has had both of his

Maggiesfarm · 15/07/2021 02:48

My children are 33 and 30, plus I have nephew of 36, so not that young I suppose. Nephew caught the virus early last year, was quite ill for a time, gradually improved, eventually back to normal.

All three have been fully vaccinated, can't remember when but it was months ago. They felt it was the right thing to do, my girls saw their normally active cousin from the recommended distance when he was recovering but still weak and it upset them. They'd have had it anyway but that prompted them to make arrangements as soon as they could.

I'm the one who has been hanging back but not deliberately, each time I had an appointment something happened to stop me going. However I had the first jab on Monday. When I went to the vaccination centre (part of a high street pharmacy, round the back, near where I live), a couple of people came along and asked if they could just walk in and were told, yes, queue up or come back later. I wish I had known they did walk ins there, spent ages arranging an appointment on the NHS website! Still it's done now.

If any young people mentioned by posters above are really anxious to get the vaccine as soon as possible, it might not be a bad idea to call in on a vaccination centre on the off chance.

backatschool · 15/07/2021 03:56

I'm not in the U.K. My 13 year old DS and all his friends have had it, as have the vast majority of 12-18 year olds in this country.

MajesticWhine · 15/07/2021 04:48

19 and 21 yr olds. Both been jabbed.

Valhalla17 · 15/07/2021 05:18

They dont sound dumb at all, many people feel this way about their children taking this vaccine. Just because someone has a different view it doesnt mean they are stupid. Hmm

You sound like a bully quite frankly @TheTallOakTrees

Cookerhood · 15/07/2021 07:56

@loulouljh
No, of course not. It wouldn't be the vaccinators who took the rap.

felulageller · 15/07/2021 07:58

Mine isn't interested in getting it. Covid isn't a risk to him and he's not the most altruistic of teens.

He says his friends feel the same.
