Yes I will be wearing a mask. Dd’s secondary school also insisted on mask wearing once restrictions were lifted so I think that says a lot. As does the weeeell you really should wear masks from the government. We are going to get a volte face sooner rather than later if people stop wearing them.

Dee1975 · 12/07/2021 20:09

In the main I will. DH said he won’t.
For me it’s no big issue. I’m happy to do. It doesn't take any ‘liberties’ away - it’s just a mask! However, the one time I struggle is when I take DC swimming (so hot in the place!) so I might take it off when seated (and back in when going out).

Hollyhead · 12/07/2021 20:10

I will wear one in some situations - crowded public transport - yes, if I’m the only person in the carriage no,in a busy supermarket - yes, browsing airy department store on a quiet weekday - no.

Doesn’t have to be all or nothing.

Imnothereforthedrama · 12/07/2021 20:15

@AntiMaskersAreTwats

It’s true though isn’t it? They are selfish twats. Although the law of masks is gone the guidance is to wear them in crowded places. People who are saying no they won’t wear them are only thinking of themselves, thus selfish twats.
Why are they selfish though? I’m keen to know . Perhaps they think masks don’t actually stop the spread of Covid . Perhaps they are sick of wearing them . Perhaps they are questioning who are we protecting if we’ve all been offered the vaccine and unlikely to get severe ill . Or perhaps you are right and are selfish if that’s true they won’t care that you think they are selfish because they are selfish. I think people should direct their anger elsewhere especially as no longer mandatory.
JassyRadlett · 12/07/2021 20:18

Yes, in most indoor places. Five paces from door of cafe to table I might not.

I’m objectively low risk to others - I’ve been double jabbed since early May - but it feels like a small thing I can do to reduce that risk even further, and hopefully ensure that CEV and others who are worried feel more confident and able in shared communal spaces. They likelihood is that they’ve had a shitter and more constrained year or so than I have.

I don’t like masks, but it’s not a terrible hardship for me to wear one.

RhubarbTea · 12/07/2021 20:26

No I won't in reasonably quiet indoor situation or on a train platform. On a crowded train or very busy/small indoor space then yes, perhaps.
But I loathe them and can't wait to get rid of them.
My prediction is that in my area mask wearing will be around 50/50 indoors, in terms of those doing so and those not. At the height of lockdowns it was more like 95% masks, and now is probably about 70-80% masks.

BlackeyedSusan · 12/07/2021 20:32

Yes of course. Those who can should at least while this whole bloody peak is high.

Getyourarseofffthequattro · 12/07/2021 20:36

At work, yes because I'll have to. Anywhere else? No. Not unless I am specifically asked to.

Im never anywhere particularly busy anyway.

I have noticed that it's the pro mask posters who can't seem to be civil and start name calling though. It's really frustrating to read posts where people are trying to take the moral high ground and the best they can come up with is "selfish twat". Perhaps if your arguments were a bit better people would listen. You catch more flies with honey etc.

It is the same with the vaccine too.
MustBeThin · 12/07/2021 20:39

I won't be wearing them. I've not done a single shopping trip that wasn't the 20min compulsory food shop since mask wearing became mandatory. I have rosacea, and they really upset it. I haven't bought a single item of clothing or anything in all this time because I don't like getting clothes online. I've stuck to every single rule since day one, and I've been vaccinated to help protect others even though I didn't particularly want or feel the need to have it for myself. Now masks aren't compulsory I won't be wearing them, I feel like I can finally have a little freedom after all this time and I can't wait to have a little amble around a few shops although I'm feeling a little anxious that people wearing masks will be confrontational.

FoolsAssassin · 12/07/2021 20:49

Yes I think conclusion in this house is we will all will be. DD here at moment but lives in Wales and I think Wales are still having to wear them for a bit ?

My DC are a teen and early 20s and wouldn’t take mask off viewing a house where the 80 year old vendor was saying it’s fine to as they only have one dose of vaccine between them and didn’t want to take chances near her.

coronabeers · 12/07/2021 20:53

Busy public transport yes but not in the shops.

MarshaBradyo · 12/07/2021 20:54

I’ll see how I feel, I will sometimes others not

Stuffin · 12/07/2021 20:55

No

KatherineOfGaunt · 12/07/2021 20:57

I'm not sure if work will keep masks in communal areas (primary school) but will definitely keep them to hand for shops and enclosed spaces. I just think it'll help others and I'm not sure I'm ready for no masks yet. I wish they'd opened everything up but continued with masks being required in indoor settings. I'm not sure why but it'd make me feel better!

matthancockslovechild · 12/07/2021 21:01

Nope!! I'll never wear one again unless I have to, but if it's a choice, no way.

Londontown12 · 12/07/2021 21:10

Yep I will it’s tricky ! I have auto immune problems medication can make me more prone to having covid bad so it’s a personal choice but also to protect the vulnerable that’s my decision but everyone has to take responsibility for themselves x

memberofthewedding · 12/07/2021 21:11

I rarely go out anyway and have only worn a mask on one occasion. I will not wear one unless I absolutely have to.

Figgygal · 12/07/2021 21:13

Yes I will

zyd32 · 12/07/2021 21:17

No. Honestly I'm counting down the days until next week. Obviously no issue if others choose to wear masks.

Missedopportunity · 12/07/2021 21:20

I hate them and always said I'd burn mine at the first opportunity. But I realise from my friends that there are a lot of nervous people out and about and so for their (mental) health, I'll carry in wearing them in shops and on public transport. I would even consider now, that if I had a cold, I'd wear one. Thought Eastern countries were daft before, now have full respect.

This is really considerate and kind Smile.

BTW this is what's happened in the Netherlands

Tumbleweed101 · 12/07/2021 21:30

I'll use common sense as far as possible but I won't wear them if I'm somewhere quiet. I've struggled with wearing masks and glasses so cut down on how often I go out. I'm looking forward to being able to go out and enjoy it again.

I've worked throughout in a nursery so no masks, no social distancing. Lots of sneezes, coughs and body fluids everywhere, yet not one case so far in my workplace. It feels more strange to wear one than not. I used to go for a wander around shops fairly often but haven't shopped for pleasure since the beginning of last March when all the panic buying began. The easing of restrictions means I have a choice now which is such a relief.

ineedaholidaynow · 12/07/2021 21:37

I wonder if the Government will make them mandatory at some point again
