By people who want their second jab early so they can go on holiday.

Absolutely ridiculous!

XenoBitch · 10/07/2021 23:53

People bang on about having the jab for "the good of society".. but this is what it really boils down to.

MercyBooth · 10/07/2021 23:59

Not moving very fast this thread is it? Perhaps i should have mentioned masks in the title.

My neighbours daughter volunteers at a vaccination centre. She was threatened today by someone wanting to punch her as they weren't allowed their jab early.

MercyBooth · 11/07/2021 00:05

@Rillington COMPLETELY unacceptable. I hope she is ok.

This bears out what ive said on this board in the past. People arent bothered about vulnerable or disabled people. Apart from using them as a tool to emotionally blackmail others.

terrible, but why does every post have to be some kind of negative take on the vaccine roll out?

I think this is partially driven by the postcode lottery - lots of vaccine centres have been ok to do second jabs +3 weeks later but there's loads of discrepancy (and some centres have gone back on this policy the next day leading to disappointed people).

Not just individuals wanting 2nd jab so they can go on holiday, but those worried about rising cases and the limited protected off only having one. I went to a walk in centre myself yesterday and was a bit upset I was turned away when I knew a friend had been in just a couple of days beforehand. Of course I wasn't rude to anyone as it's just one of those things (and the poor staff have no control over it), but tensions are running high.

why does a single guardian report prove that no-one is having the jab apart from selfish reasons to go on holiday? Confused

It's midnight. Lots of people are asleep.

I hope you didn't post in the middle of the night so you could claim "nobody cares about NHS staff being abused" .

MercyBooth · 11/07/2021 00:08

I didnt say no one.

But its not beneath the realms of possibility that those who have been bullying other members of the public over this would bully NHS staff too.

It works on both sides though

You've got anti-vax posters claiming they're not having the jab so it can be donated to people in need (rather than just admitting they don't want it), and people here taking it up are the selfish ones. These kind of people will cry bullshit to try and look good whatever side of the argument on they're on (and on whatever topic).

Rillington · 11/07/2021 00:12

@MercyBooth Yes she's fine. She plays rugby so doesn't put up with any crap. The delightful man was escorted off the premises.

MercyBooth · 11/07/2021 00:12

I know that. There are many not covering themselves in glory here.

No you're right

The amount of harassment and abuse NHS staff are subjected to has been steadily growing over the last couple of decades and hasn't got nearly enough attention.

During the pandemic staff have also been abused by coronavirus deniers who think they are faking hospitals being busy, and denying patients lifesaving treatments (which do not exist). It seems a little disingenuous to start a thread purely on NHS staff being abused by people wanting vaccines.

Backofbeyond50 · 11/07/2021 00:40

Sadly the Country has a small minority of self entitled idiots who only think about themselves.

Backofbeyond50 · 11/07/2021 00:43

Yep @leafyygreens sadly this type of abuse is nothing new.

MercyBooth · 11/07/2021 00:54

"Shut up Mercy and only start threads about the right sort of abuse"

Whatever the reason for the abuse is it is unacceptable.

With vaccine certificates for pubs being mooted again there will also be people wanting the second vaccine as soon as possible so they can go to the pub.

People are responsible for their own behaviour but the Government dont think their stupid policies through and what they might lead to.

OP posts:
frozendaisy · 11/07/2021 01:32

Was talking with the Mr about this earlier, the government should just release a statement that jabs less than 8 weeks apart don't qualify.

LightAsTheBreeze · 11/07/2021 05:16

Sunday Times reporting that jab gap to be shortened to four weeks, no. 10 wants swifter protection as cases rise, haven't read the article as behind a paywall.

Theredjellybean · 11/07/2021 05:25

There arw vaccine centres all a cross the country making up their own rules.
Where I have been vaccinating we moved to eight weeks ages ago as we had vaccines spare and had called up all over 18's.
We then went to three weeks so vaccine wasn't wasted, now back at eight weeks as sudden surge in people who had not wanted it before suddenly coming forward for first jab.
I can see why the public may get frustrated but better to explain its all down to supply and demand than just say nah mate you're not getting it...

Arsebucket · 11/07/2021 08:27

Oh please….. everyone I know who had had the vaccine did so because they thought they wouldn’t be able to go to the pub or on holiday without it. Most didn’t want to have it and only took it as they were horrified they might not be able to go on holiday this year without it.

Unless everyone suddenly started caring about others, which I’ve seen precious little of in my life.

Noterook · 11/07/2021 08:30

Not really arsed why people have it though, the fact they have is good.

The vaccine Centre I had mine in had a layer of security outside, you had to show your booking details etc to them and then you were able to go in. Seemed extreme at the time but I hope it's still in place if people are acting like this, disgraceful but sadly not overly surprising.

Backofbeyond50 · 11/07/2021 08:45

Given the behaviour of some of the ptotestors aswell as these incidents though security isn't a bad idea.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 11/07/2021 08:45

Yep I have encountered such abuse from patients wanting 2nd doses earlier than 8 weeks for travel purposes, 1 nice gentleman even said it was down to me personally if he contracted covid on his holiday because I was allowing him to travel unprotected Hmm as if little old me on the admin desk gets to decide the rules! I've also had plenty abuse from those who don't want the vaccine too, completely understand not everyone wants it and that's fine but don't go around harassing those that do.
On the whole I've found that people have got ruder the younger we've got through the roll out. The older ones happily took any vaccine, at any time, patiently waited for the 2nd and were ever so grateful and appreciative. The 40/30s however seem to think there's an endless supply of every vaccine of their choosing, available 24/7 and get quite shirty when they realise that's not actually true. With the young ones now there's plenty making appointments, but also plenty not turning up for those appointments and missing 2 or 3 before actually having their vaccine
