covid cases rising

essexgirl58 · 10/07/2021 00:18

I just read online that cases are rising and the Government are going to review the situation on Monday to make a decision as to what to do on the 19th July and if despite this if they still continue to relax things finally on the 19th July then I will have lost all respect for this UK Governemtnt and Boris should be sacked immediately, together with the Health Minister

The final step of unlocking is expected to go ahead as planned on 19 July in England. It will be confirmed on 12 July after a review of data.

@StepladderToHeaven,

Both lines moving upwards, hospitalisations with a lag…

The lower constant of proportionality means that when you compare the gradients, the hospitalisation level and gradient will be about 1/5 of the previous wave.

How do you explain:

Cases: +31%
Hospitalisations:+56%

??

traumatisednoodle · 10/07/2021 07:31

Isolations and demand for tests, this will happen within the next month and may happen reguardless of the final lifting of restrictions. August is going to be fun (not). A huge ampunt of NHS staff have annual leave booked (lots carried over from 2020 and some trusts have given "well being" days in addition which of course everyone is taking during the holidays, people are cancelling their leave if isolating and doing admin from home if you are lucky so double whammy) None of this has been thought through at all- what a balls up.

I think people have stopped testing because they don't want to isolate and affect school/holiday plans.

TheReluctantPhoenix · 10/07/2021 07:35

@SonnetForSpring,

That is kind of irrelevant.

Regardless of the baseline, if hospitalisations are increasing week-on-week by a similar percentage, this is-by definition - exponential growth, and proves the link has not been broken.

This may well be the case, which is really worrying because without testing, especially of infected double vaccinated individuals we won't know when the vaccine resistant strain arrives.

Turquoisesol · 10/07/2021 07:38

Our local hospital also released statement saying they are postponing non urgent operations and also asking the public not to do diy or dangerous activities that land them in a&e

I'm not saying it's been broken. Sorry, my post was a bit off topic.

Well exactly. Plus it make hospitalizations look like a higher proportion of cases so the people who aren't testing are not helping themselves get out of covid restrictions
SonnetForSpring · 10/07/2021 07:44

I really think the government is going to back track anyway. I do wonder if it has all just been bluster to keep tory voters onside. Scientists will be the scapegoats because they have called for the uturn.

NannyAndJohn · 10/07/2021 07:46

@TheReluctantPhoenix

Latest 7 day moving averages:

Infections +31%
Hospitalisations +56%

Link severed?!

And deaths won't be far behind.
Sparklingbrook · 10/07/2021 07:47

Here we go again. Hmm Morning @NannyAndJohn.

NannyAndJohn · 10/07/2021 07:47

@StepladderToHeaven

The ReluctantPhoenix yes, link severed
Those graphs are 10 days old.

10 days is a very long time when you have exponential growth.

traumatisednoodle · 10/07/2021 07:49

With 100,000 infections a day it is almost impossible to test, actually impossible to trace and incredibly disruptive to isolate (400,000 people being asked to isolate DAILY that's 2.7 million a week, these will mostly be working age people). They will lose even more control.

“I will have lost all respect” [for this government]. I’m impressed it took this long! I lost all respect for them in about April of 2020
Sparklingbrook · 10/07/2021 07:51

How's the sand?

Lol. No sand here sadly I’m in the landlocked Midlands. Sad

traumatisednoodle · 10/07/2021 07:52

There will be complete chaos.
The NHS won't actually collapse and restrictions will be re- introduced by September/October latest.

coulditbecominghome · 10/07/2021 07:52

I'm assuming there will be back tracking.

They already have lost control. I hope that's what the government wanted because even if they back track now on lifting restrictions, it's too late to make a real change without some severe restrictions. I hope it peaks and burns out soon.
Sparklingbrook · 10/07/2021 07:53

I think I’ll be needing my MN Covid Bingo card again today.

Doublestar · 10/07/2021 07:53

Here she is 👏 👏 👏

Where's the other Usual Suspects...?

SonnetForSpring · 10/07/2021 07:54

Maybe there will be a lock down. I really hope not. That really will be the last straw.

Sparklingbrook · 10/07/2021 07:55

They’ll be along shortly. Clearly the klaxon was an early one today. 😂
Doublestar · 10/07/2021 07:56

There will be complete chaos.

There hasn't been "complete chaos" at all so far really (unless you count lockdowns/kids not receiving an education etc as chaos)
So why would there be complete chaos now we have a (seemingly very effective) vaccine??

crochetcrazy1978 · 10/07/2021 07:57

If the rates continue climbing the number of people self isolating or taking time off to care for children self isolating will grind the country to a halt. They need to do away with self isolation for contacts.
