Will you feel more or less confident to 'go back to normal' on the 19th July?

Take holidays out the equation for the purpose of the thread. It's more in terms of day-to-day life and socialising etc.

Personally, i've enjoyed going to pubs and restaurants etc recently and catching up with friends again. Any socialising will run the risk with the virus, but there's measures in place to mitigate that risk.

Now, I know we need to go back to normal and businesses need to operate properly. However, the way the government have gone about it with letting the variant run riot in the build up. Dropping masks in schools and now altogether from the 19th, an end to social distancing altogether. It's basically eat out to help out on steroids in terms of spreading Covid and could be counter productive for hospitality by autumn.

Basically, are you thinking sod it, i'm going to catch it I might as well get on with things, or 'i'm going to roll back on what i'm doing now' (pubs/restaurants etc)? . We're paying the price for just how badly this whole thing has been handled. Neither are ideal.

@SoSadAboutMyDad

Nope! We will be extra careful. Only eating outside, outdoor attractions, masks, no public transport etc. I don’t want my family caught up in this shitty government’s next wave.
Oh get a grip. Enjoy your time while you can!
FflosFfantastig · 09/07/2021 10:03

I will be respectful of people's space and needs, but confident to get back to normal. Resigned to potentially catching covid again but that's ok. Will deal with that when it comes.

I know what you mean, but with vaccines and natural immunity from infection we must be near herd immunity by now.

@Babdoc

I’m in Scotland, which has six of the ten worst Covid hotspots in the whole of Europe. We are not included in the July 19th release, for obvious reasons. The vaccine rollout here has been shambolic compared to England. Delay in opening mass vaccination hubs, stupidly sending fixed appointments at times/venues people couldn’t get to, where England allowed book your own time/place, sending appointments by post to addresses people had left years ago, late to introduce online booking, late to introduce drop in venues. We’ve been weeks behind England all the way, despite Sturgeon trying to claim credit for managing the pandemic better than Boris. She’s been noticeably quieter since we became the Covid capital of Europe! It will be August before we have any hope of abandoning all restrictions up here.
It is true we have higher numbers in some areas. However the numbers are still low and we have the vaccine. Cases are irrelevant now.

The concern for me (my family) is the higher chance of having to self isolate, which would really hit us hard. I’m not remotely scared of covid for myself or family. What I am worried about is the isolation and the impact this will have on us. For this reason we’ll be sticking with outdoor activities, avoiding busier places etc. Then in the run up to our holiday (where we’ll need negative tests) we’ll completely withdraw. Luckily for us we’re a family of outdoor enthusiasts and live somewhere reasonably rural so it won’t be a hardship for us.

@Waxonwaxoff0

Yep, I'm doing what I want. Couldn't care less if I catch Covid and never have done.
Me too. I stopped wearing my mask on 21 June. By 19 July I'll be delighted to go back to normal. Eat inside etc.

Just delete the app. I did last year so can't get pinged. Pretend to check in at places. I do.
walkoflifewoohoo · 09/07/2021 10:14

@MrsArchchancellorRidcully you know you've been able to eat indoors for ages now?

I'm in wales. Best vaccination rates in the uk. Most fully vaxxed and still the drip of the first minister is being cautious 🙄🙄🙄

We live in a seaside place. Don't tend to go to beach if it is crowded i.e. bank holidays. But locals have kind of always done that anyway.

During lockdowns I never went out to lunch obviously but I've taken myself out a few times.

We are careful, in some ways it is easier as DD is year 11 and they have finished school officially. I don't drive so have taken a taxi with face mask etc.

Weather ok so more outdoors.

Parents evening for sixth form was online yesterday. They are planning blended learning four days attendance out of five, one day online and each student will be issued with an i pad for September.

I guessing this is because in case there needs to be another lock down and then we will be prepared.

I've been redecorating and doing things in our flat to improve storage etc (it is small) some things we really struggled with in previous lockdowns as repairs could not be done. Sad, but I'm looking forwad to getting a tumble dryer installed. It was awful trying to get washing dry in small space in lockdowns.

I've been to the supermarket. Getting really fed up now with mask wearing, it's getting me down.

Hopefully. But if that's the case then it'd make sense to hang back a bit while cases jump to 100k a day or whatever they get to.

If vaccinated people keep getting ill (or people getting Covid again) then herd immunity isn't happening any time soon.

I'm fine with it.

userperuser · 09/07/2021 10:21

I never did anything last year as I has been suitably terrified.

This year I’ve realised no matter how low cases are or how careful I am I could just be unlucky so decided that not living is not an option more.

Despite living in an area with probably the highest rate at the moment recently I’ve been to restaurants, shopped in numerous non essential shops, been to Cornwall (high rates) self catering and using restaurants and been totally fine. I did see 2 fatal collisions on the way to Cornwall, that also could have been me.

And I’m not vaccinated.

nex18 · 09/07/2021 10:31

I’ll absolutely be hoping to get back to my normal life without restrictions. The only thing I will hold back from for a while is overseas travel, just for fear of restrictions in different countries changing and the possible consequences, I can’t afford many holidays so I want to know I will be able to enjoy them.

LightAsTheBreeze · 09/07/2021 10:35

I'm fine with it but let's not pretend it's normal

vaxmeup · 09/07/2021 10:40

I'm probably feeling the most nervous I've felt throughout the pandemic so far, and that's with 2 jabs. I'm not CEV, but I really don't want to take my chances with getting long covid. Plus, I live with vulnerable family members so I'll need to be careful around them over this next wave. I've been doing a few things over the last few months but mainly outdoors. I won't be doing anything indoors while cases are rising, it's just not worth it for me and I'm ok with not eating out etc...

IcedPurple · 09/07/2021 10:42

I'd be happy to get completely back to normal right away, but I suspect my work will be imposing restrictions for some time.

Will be interesting to see how the general public reacts. My suspicion is that people who frequent the Coronavirus board on MN tend to be much more cautious than the average person, but I guess we'll soon find out.

CovidCorvid · 09/07/2021 10:46

I'm pretty much of the opinion I'm going to catch it at some point anyway so will crack on with living. I've had both jabs, hopefully won't be too ill, hopefully won't get long covid.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 09/07/2021 10:49

I had it last year, and it really wasn't that bad. "Proper flu" was much worse IME, though I thankfully don't have any "long Covid" symptoms. Plus I'm double-jabbed, as is DH, so we're keen to get back to as normal as possible.

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/07/2021 10:50

I can understand that and suspect you’re probably right, would likely feel the same way were if not for CEV loved ones. So, will continue with precautions because that works for us.

KatherineJaneway · 09/07/2021 10:52

I'm going to go back to normal. If I get it, so be it.

Quartz2208 · 09/07/2021 10:52

We have all had it and DH and I are double jabbed so yes we are I have seen the mental impact on my children and don’t want to hold back life anymore

Went to friendsfest last night in Clapham Common and it was packed the tube less so

Ragwort · 09/07/2021 10:54

Very confident, I work in retail and honestly not particularly bothered .. I am very relaxed about it all. I actually met someone in an office this morning, he wasn't wearing a mask, so I asked him if he wanted me to, he said no, no sign of hand sanitizer or anything ... personally I found it quite refreshing to be 'back to normal' ... I won't be going abroad any time soon .. mainly because of the delays and queues.

ifonly4 · 09/07/2021 10:55

I accept we need to try and move on and the government's reasons for opening up now. However, I understand that wearing a mask gives more protection to others, than the other way around. I'm really not looking forward to work as there'll be customers who don't wear a mask and will be very close.

My DD knows she's less at risk, but wants that second vaccine before going into busy places, which she won't get until end August. I feel for her, luckily her friends feel the same.

We enjoy eating out, but for now will continue outside and hope our local pub continues with the app (have no desire to queue up in a busy bar to place order at the till). Luckily I have careful friends as well who only want to meet outside anyway.

Distiller91 · 09/07/2021 10:57

Very much looking forward to going back to normal. Have gigs booked already which i cant wait for! At this point if i get covid, i get it.
