Will you feel more or less confident to 'go back to normal' on the 19th July?

Take holidays out the equation for the purpose of the thread. It's more in terms of day-to-day life and socialising etc.

Personally, i've enjoyed going to pubs and restaurants etc recently and catching up with friends again. Any socialising will run the risk with the virus, but there's measures in place to mitigate that risk.

Now, I know we need to go back to normal and businesses need to operate properly. However, the way the government have gone about it with letting the variant run riot in the build up. Dropping masks in schools and now altogether from the 19th, an end to social distancing altogether. It's basically eat out to help out on steroids in terms of spreading Covid and could be counter productive for hospitality by autumn.

Basically, are you thinking sod it, i'm going to catch it I might as well get on with things, or 'i'm going to roll back on what i'm doing now' (pubs/restaurants etc)? . We're paying the price for just how badly this whole thing has been handled. Neither are ideal.

Nope! We will be extra careful. Only eating outside, outdoor attractions, masks, no public transport etc. I don’t want my family caught up in this shitty government’s next wave.

ablutiions · 09/07/2021 08:59

I'm ok with pubs and restaurants but won't be going back to yoga classes yet.

I'll avoid public transport wherever I can as it will be a hotbed of infection

I'm double jabbed but have an underlying health condition a d a history of chest problems. Plus I've had post viral Syndrome before too. That was debilitating and I'd avoid again at all costs.

I'll still wear a mask is public indoor places.

Lemonmelonsun · 09/07/2021 08:59

I'm cautious, I've drummed it into family that we are in a third wave and to be careful.

There isn't much we can after the 19th that I can't do right now.
At the moment I've been doing top up shops freely so as cases rise I'll be going at quieter times.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 09/07/2021 09:01

Yep, I'm doing what I want. Couldn't care less if I catch Covid and never have done.

ablutiions · 09/07/2021 09:01

This !!!!!

Baystard · 09/07/2021 09:01

I'll do things outdoors, but going into a busy restaurant or pub doesn't appeal much.

Not everyone has had 2 jabs yet!!

AuntieMarys · 09/07/2021 09:01

I feel I'm more or less back to normal apart from masks. Eat out twice a week, just been on holiday, go to gym, beauty salon and hairdressers regularly

SonnetForSpring · 09/07/2021 09:01

I'm going to do things but while taking precautions. I have to admit I won't be doing as much as I usually would in terms of eating in restaurants/cafes. I won't be taking the kids indoor trampolining etc. But anything outdoors. Some trips away. I certainly wouldn't go to a cinema or a nightclub/bar though... for me, those things aren't worth the risk. I am also socialising with friends mainly outside or inside with windows open. Masks, ventilation and washing hands....

lughnasadh · 09/07/2021 09:02

It's pretty normal here already.

Loads of people not wearing masks, the cinemas are as full as they can be (no masks once seated), public transport is packed with very few wearing masks.

It's fine. No one is dropping dead. the NHS is in much the same state it always was.

SonnetForSpring · 09/07/2021 09:02

I've only just had my second jab and my day had his way back at start of year so not worth the risk as I see him frequently.

User135644 · 09/07/2021 09:03

Same. It's so disheartening as I get my second jab next week and was banking on feeling more confident a couple of weeks after that while restrictions loosened.

Instead, it's like we're back on groundhog day again.

OP posts:
SonnetForSpring · 09/07/2021 09:03

I also wont get on public transport if masks are scrapped.

SonnetForSpring · 09/07/2021 09:05

This is a very risky time. Last summer cases were much lower so I wasn't as fussed. Right now, it is very prevalent.

Mintjulia · 09/07/2021 09:05

I've been back in the office and travelling on the train two days a week since the start of June. It's fine. We're careful in the office, plenty of ventilation although we don't wear masks.

The test will come in the autumn when it gets cold and we don't want all the windows open. And the trains are all packed.

Mufflete · 09/07/2021 09:05

Definitely going to be cautious. We've started going to restaurants etc again but now things are rising will be back to outdoor plans for the summer!

I'm the same as you OP, second jab next week and was really looking forward to feeling relieved after that but now not so much!

User135644 · 09/07/2021 09:06

but going into a busy restaurant or pub doesn't appeal much.

I've really enjoying going to local pubs in recent weeks. They're just going to be infection hotspots once the restrictions are taken out (and all the alcohol involved, which removes sensibilities).

At least if the weather is nice there's the choice of beer gardens.

I'm happy to go back to normal but we are not going back to normal, are we?
can't travel abroad, vaccine passports, have to book everything etc

it will never be "back to normal". ever

NannyAndJohn · 09/07/2021 09:08

I won't be going back to normal.

In fact I will be avoiding all non-essential shops, restaurants, cafes, indoor leisure, visitor attractions, etc.

And I'm willing to bet that a sizeable proportion of the population will too.

Yes, but there's been the mitigation of masks and trains and government advice to wfh, meaning the trains aren't crowded. That's taken away on the 19th, so the office can be as well ventilated as they like but if someone catches it on the train, bus or tube on the way in.

Apart from masks I feel like my life has been fairly normal for a while.
I have worked all the way through and so have my husband and kids so it has has been normal routines for us.
I've been going back to pubs, the cinema ,restaurants and the gym for a while and have been to a few gigs already. I've been on holiday (uk) twice, once for two weeks and once for 1 week.
The hairdressers and beauty salons are open.
Theres nothing much I'm waiting for. This was my life pre covid.

SoSadAboutMyDad · 09/07/2021 09:11

It’s like Eat Out to Spread it About and holidays abroad last year. They do something which attempts to stimulate the economy but it actually ends up costing more in the long run as we end up in lockdowns or people too scared to go out and spend. It’s happening again now. If they get rid of all restrictions it will be the families and older people who stop spending so much to try and remain safe. If we had just kept everything on an even keel we could have just propped up those industries that couldn’t restart like the travel and nightclub industries but we have the worst PM ever who gives into whoever is putting him under the most pressure at the time.

MrsLCSofLichfield · 09/07/2021 09:12

Nah, it's not for me.

Iggly · 09/07/2021 09:13

Nope. I haven’t had my second jab (under 40).

It’s the removal of masks and social distancing which is my issue. This government literally doesn’t give a shit about people who aren’t in the same category as them personally (mainly men of a certain age who are oblivious to things like schools, childcare, the elderly etc).

Exactly. Like Eat Out To Get the Virus it's a false economy that it helps the economy.

We've got it wrong at every turn, except on vaccines.

To an extent but will continue mask wearing indoors, (higher grade than before because as most stop wearing, there will be more virus in the air inside) shops, transport etc. because that suits our family circumstances.

Won’t be holidaying abroad for the foreseeable, again personal health circumstances. Pleased for those who safely can though.
