As numbers go up, will you be avoiding public places?

I will certainly be cutting back on visits when numbers rise higher, even though I’ve had it and am double vacinated. I really don’t want to be ill again. It wasn’t pleasant.
At the moment I’m taking the risk but when masks are relaxed and if/when numbers are higher, I’ll be restricting my movements. I know I’m “low risk” but I still don’t want to be ill in bed again.

Anyone else?

sailmeaway · 06/07/2021 14:51

no, I'll wear a mask and wash my hands but carry on as normal. I've had both jabs tho and work in a vacc centre

Mansplainee · 06/07/2021 14:53

I’m pregnant so do feel vulnerable. Second jab in two weeks time so I’ll be doing things but avoiding very crowded places for the next month to give the second jab time to work. If I wasn’t pregnant I’d likely be taking a much more relaxed approach.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 06/07/2021 14:53

Personally no. I can't wait to live normally again. I'm not living my life scared.

NavigationCentral · 06/07/2021 14:54

NOPE.

warmfluffytowels · 06/07/2021 14:55

Nope.

I can't wait for things to go back to normal. Hiding way indoors and avoiding seeing people and doing things is not life.

WeatherSystems · 06/07/2021 14:56

No. Life is for living.

I've had both jabs, and COVID, and spent the first 18m of my first child's life abiding to the restrictions. It's been a shit time. I can't wait to get back to normal. I would crawl through a puddle of other people's sweat right now if it meant being able to go to a gig.

applesandpears33 · 06/07/2021 14:57

Yes. I have friends who were double jagged and still got covid. It may have been mild but they both felt dreadful for about 10 days. I will continue to wear masks and avoid crowded places.

BruceAndNosh · 06/07/2021 15:00

I'm doubled jabbed but am avoiding places where I would have to Check In mainly because I don't want to be told to isolate for 10 days

Normandy144 · 06/07/2021 15:08

I will be limiting contact but only because I'm due to go on holiday and don't want to jeopardize that. After I get back then I'm happy to go about my business.

BrunoMars · 06/07/2021 15:08

No! Just booked a gig for Thursday 22nd!

OhCrumbsWhereNow · 06/07/2021 15:08

No - I commute to London and have been back in since beginning of June, have a child at school and can't wait for restrictions to be lifted and life to return to normal.

DH and I both double jabbed (he's ECV and I'm CV) so not worried at all.

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 06/07/2021 15:16

I'm aiming for cautious and considerate. I'm conscious that my choices potentially affect other people, so I'm trying to be mindful of that. There could be a fair bit of 'fuck it/I've had enough now/I'm doing exactly what I want' to offset.

With no restrictions, and no idea how the vaccine/s will perform long term, throwing all caution to the wind in the determined stomp to be 'normal' again feels a little shortsighted.

Fingers crossed, eh?

MrsLCSofLichfield · 06/07/2021 15:17

Yes. OP, I totally get it and I think we're in the same boat. Last March I had a very unpleasant illness which floored me and went on for weeks. Never tested, but I feel safe to presume COVID-19. Utter exhaustion, low-grade fever, coughing, breathlessness, diarrhoea, heart palpitations - it was fucking vile.

I am now double-jabbed with AZ but still wary - the chances of getting sick again seem no better than about 50/50. Yes, I am grateful that I'm v unlikely to get seriously ill or be hospitalised if I catch it again, but I still don't want to catch the bastard thing again.

And no, I'm not planning to stay home for the rest of my life (unless I'm cut down in the next year or so!), but with that utter tit Sajid Javid talking about 100k cases a day by the end of summer, whatever I can do to avoid being one of those cases I'll do. I have a child in school and I can't control that risk, but I'm WFH and getting my shopping delivered, I'm not socialising and don't have any family nearby anyway. When things have settled down and the virus isn't constantly growing everywhere I'll get back to doing things a bit more. Not sure why some people find this so hard to understand.

MrsLCSofLichfield · 06/07/2021 15:19

I should perhaps add that my lungs didn't feel normal until 6 months after my infection. I would really rather avoid all that shit again!

UnChatNoir · 06/07/2021 15:21

Absolutely not

TerritorialPissings · 06/07/2021 15:22

Did you stay in and avoid places pre Covid “just in case”?! There were, and still are, plenty of other awful illnesses could have contracted that may have rendered you bed bound. I seriously cannot understand why people are only scared of Covid. It’s so odd.

userxx · 06/07/2021 15:27

Nope. Cant wait to mingle again with strangers.

doubleshotespresso · 06/07/2021 15:28

@lockdownalli

Yes, I will be more careful and will continue to wear a mask.

I am really worried about getting Long Covid as I am close to someone who has been affected and it's been so shocking and awful to see.

We have a few friends and family close to us suffering terribly with long covid, it really is awfully brutal in its' effects. This is a major concern for us too as the neuro diverse (our DC) are more susceptible to this, as referred to the other day by Chris Whitty, I am so angry this is being overlooked in all these rushed plans. It depresses me so much that the disabled have been and continue to be invisible to this government and so many on threads such s this.
Gwenhwyfar · 06/07/2021 15:33

"as you are double jabbed, the chances of you a. Catching it again and b. Being as poorly with it are so minuscule is it worth sacrificing your freedom and enjoyment of life?"

Is this true? Seems the vaccine reduces hospitalisation and death rates, but not catching it and feeling ill with it.

SirSamuelVimes · 06/07/2021 15:36

and getting my shopping delivered, I'm not socialising and don't have any family nearby anyway. When things have settled down and the virus isn't constantly growing everywhere I'll get back to doing things a bit more. Not sure why some people find this so hard to understand.

You're allowed to do what you want. But don't act saintly when your sheltered, low risk existence is entirely reliant upon lower the paid men and women who have to work, often in conditions where social distancing is impossible, who enable all your shopping to be delivered. You are transferring your risk to them.

Sharkology · 06/07/2021 15:40

@Gwenhwyfar I am pretty sure I have it again - I had it horrendously last year, and I am just waiting a PCR test but the symptoms are pretty much the same (only this time I have a sore throat too). GP asked me to do a test which I am waiting the results for.

I am pretty sure I got it in a shop from an unmasked person coughing without covering their mouth whilst walking past me (coming towards me).

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 06/07/2021 15:41

I seriously cannot understand why people are only scared of Covid

It's clear that many people on this thread are actually being mindful of other people and reducing risk, rather than being 'scared of Covid.'

Also, there are plenty of people who have every reason to BE scared of Covid.

Generally, I think the worst thing we can all do is be selfish at this point. Basic consideration and giving a shit about each other will help to suppress numbers and keep the freedom we all want.

MrsLCSofLichfield · 06/07/2021 15:41

@SirSamuelVimes - yeah, I know I am. I'm not claiming any moral high ground, I am trying to look after myself and my family. I don't feel great about it, but I pay my taxes, I vote Labour, I don't use Amazon, I've already tried the wild virus and 2 rounds of a newish jab. I'm not going down the supermarket in the national interest, sorry.

foodledoff · 06/07/2021 15:42

No!

KylieKoKo · 06/07/2021 15:43

I have my second vaccination this week so it will hopefully have kicked in before the great re-opening. To be honest I can see there being another lockdown in the winter so I want to make the most of being allowed to do stuff. I will maybe be a bit more selective about only doing stuff that I really want to do and taking advantage of flexible working from home to go to the supermarket at less busy times. I want to make sure that the risks I take are worth being ill for.

I can understand that for a CEV person or unvaccinated person the risks are greater so that the balance is different for them.
