As numbers go up, will you be avoiding public places?

I will certainly be cutting back on visits when numbers rise higher, even though I’ve had it and am double vacinated. I really don’t want to be ill again. It wasn’t pleasant.
At the moment I’m taking the risk but when masks are relaxed and if/when numbers are higher, I’ll be restricting my movements. I know I’m “low risk” but I still don’t want to be ill in bed again.

Anyone else?

Not at all, cannot wait until masks are a thing of the past in Scotland too. Won't be avoiding public places, will be doing everything I was able to do pre-pandemic.

I have been at the stage of "time to learn to live with this" for quite some time.

PhilSwagielka · 06/07/2021 14:20

Not really tbh, my job means I'm stuck at home for long periods anyway, but I'd definitely like to go out more. Just go into town. Meet friends. Also I don't live with anyone vulnerable/shielding.

NearlyAlwaysInsane · 06/07/2021 14:21

Not at all. I don't get that close to people in public anyway, and outdoors transmission in summer is unlikely to be a major cause of cases. I am a bit wary in supermarkets though.

RolloTomassi · 06/07/2021 14:22

@Waxonwaxoff0

Nope. I would happily have lived normally at all points of the pandemic.

Same

Me too.
ExConstance · 06/07/2021 14:24

Certainly not, can't wait to get to the bar and buy a couple of pints, I shall also unleash the full powers of my spending on the shops, I have hated shopping wearing a mask and have not bought much, except on line. I'm twice vaccinated and have done with worrying about this. I want my life back!!!

Tomuch · 06/07/2021 14:25

I feel like i would want to avoid public transport at peak times . But within a couple of weeks I would probably be back on the bus anyway. So really im contradicting my own thoughts. It does worry me a bit though like if they over pack closed in spaces such as buses. To be honest though I will probably just get on with it.

Jonnywishbone · 06/07/2021 14:25

Hospitalisation rates are about where we were in September last year and increasing on a vaguely similar trajectory. Death rate appears pretty low.

Either way I will be wearing a mask on the train for a while and keeping an eye on the numbers.

doubleshotespresso · 06/07/2021 14:29

We have booked in quite a few daytrips between now and the ned of term, we have done this to yes avoid crowds (DC has complex SEN so reacts badly to busy places generally), we think the sudden unlocking combined with school holidays means Covid risks will be far higher. I have worked too hard in the last 18 months with home schooling and generally battling the system for any of us to get sick at this point. Numbers in our area have jumped a fair bit in recent weeks, so will once the holidays kick in be far choosier if and where we do go out.

doubleshotespresso · 06/07/2021 14:29

*end of term

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 06/07/2021 14:31

My DD is a teen - if we are vaxxing 18 year olds I don't know why we aren't doing all teenagers. They can still get sick - no guarantee it will be mild or not have lasting effects. Delta variant is more easily spread and kids are likely to be in busy places.

Hersetta427 · 06/07/2021 14:31

possibly depending on the situation. We are going to the semi final tomorrow and instead of train and tube we have decided to go each way by taxi. yes it costs 4 times and much but both of my husbands parents are in hospital/ care homes at the moment so we want to make sure we continue to protect them as best we can.

Chingchok · 06/07/2021 14:32

Seems sensible to me to keep wearing masks indoors for now. Delta is super contagious. I’m not high risk but have been completely knocked out by it (I am not vaccinated). Both my parents have caught it (they are double vaccinated, since May), my dad is coughing so much. I trusted the vaccine too, and I still do, but some unlucky people are still going to get a very bad case. What’s the rush? Also, I just came from Thailand - we also thought we were through the worst, we did keep our masks, now things are getting out of control. The pandemic isn’t over. Put the vulnerable first.

PiddleOfPuppies · 06/07/2021 14:32

No, I'll be cracking on. I'm in the privileged position of having nobody in my household who is vulnerable. We've all worked out of the house as normal throughout and fully intend to continue with life now.

I am guessing Covid fatalities rate reductions helped by vaccination but long post Covid syndrome will challenge NHS resourcing in the longer term. Maybe long Covid will become a new cancer? Therefore best take all simple precautions as to risk mitigate and avoid than passively/actively seeking to bump into new potentially vaccines escape variants in unmasked crowded indoor buildings and transportation systems. Not until more accurate data is known with further peer reviewed evidence based science.
ChocOrange1 · 06/07/2021 14:36

No. I never used to avoid busy places during a busy flu season, so I don't see why I would avoid them now. I've been vaccinated and am low risk anyway so covid is a tiny risk to me.

GrannyWeatherwaxsHatpin · 06/07/2021 14:37

@secretllama

Reading some of these responses, it's clear that some people will never feel safe to go out normally again. This isn't a sly dig or me being smug but I just really struggle to understand what more people want in order to feel safe again once they've been double vaccinated and the proof is showing its working (I'm not speaking about clinically vulnerable people).
Absolutely this. I'm of the view that what a lot of people want is to go back to pre-Covid times when knew where they were with everything and they felt safe (even if that safety was an illusion). That's never going to happen and they can't cope with it.

As for me, I won't be avoiding public areas. I've tried to keep life as normal as possible throughout the pandemic and I'm sure as hell not changing that now.

ChocOrange1 · 06/07/2021 14:38

What’s the rush?
Its been 16 months, we have different definitions of "rush".

carcarbinks · 06/07/2021 14:39

Yes cases in our city are soaring. we're double vaccinated but DP is CEV. I have teenagers who are not vaccinated and one of them has SEN so has enough problems without getting ill. We've been going out but will be more careful after 19th.

GrannyWeatherwaxsHatpin · 06/07/2021 14:40

We need to be careful not to let Long Covid be the new monster under the bed. I've been diagnosed with LC but all it means in reality is that I suffer bouts of breathlessness (which have diminished over time) and it can be managed by being fitter. Of course, some aren't that lucky but post-viral syndromes aren't a new thing.

Delatron · 06/07/2021 14:40

I don’t often agree with Boris but I do think now, in summer is a good time to relax restrictions. You do not want to push a third wave in to autumn/winter so then you’re looking at next Spring? With most of the population double vaccinated by Sept that would be ridiculous.

SamW98 · 06/07/2021 14:41

No. I don't use public transport and I don't go to the big supermarkets or shopping centres anyway.

I've been socialising all of the time that bars/pubs/restaurants have been allowed to open and I will continue to do so.
I've been to s few outdoor events and can't wait to be able to dance again and not have to spend hours listening to dance music sitting down

skippy67 · 06/07/2021 14:47

Nope.

lockdownalli · 06/07/2021 14:49

Yes, I will be more careful and will continue to wear a mask.

I am really worried about getting Long Covid as I am close to someone who has been affected and it's been so shocking and awful to see.

fuckingsickofcovid · 06/07/2021 14:50

No, my life will go back to normal. I'm fed up of restrictions. I know some people are vulnerable like my grandma but she also said she doesn't care and will be going about life as normal. It's not living otherwise. It's a half life. I had covid, it wasn't nice but I'm human I can't avoid being ill constantly or something will come and knock me off my feet. And in my opinion lots of people are vaccinated now, it's never going to get much better than this so why not start now before health anxiety eats away at me?
