As numbers go up, will you be avoiding public places?

I will certainly be cutting back on visits when numbers rise higher, even though I’ve had it and am double vacinated. I really don’t want to be ill again. It wasn’t pleasant.
At the moment I’m taking the risk but when masks are relaxed and if/when numbers are higher, I’ll be restricting my movements. I know I’m “low risk” but I still don’t want to be ill in bed again.

Anyone else?

I don’t want to be ill again. It was horrible. Isn’t that a good enough reason?

I will carry on seeing family and friends but will avoid busy places until this next peak subsides. I really don’t want to get sick with two young children, and you can get pretty poorly with Delta, even if the vaccine prevents hospitalization.

Not forever mind, but certainly
during the upcoming summer madness, when cases will probably hit 100k+ a day.

I've had it too, and yes it was grim but, especially as you are double jabbed, the chances of you a. Catching it again and b. Being as poorly with it are so minuscule is it worth sacrificing your freedom and enjoyment of life?
Summerleaves · 06/07/2021 11:50

No, am lucky that I don't live with anyone vulnerable.

Am double jabbed and think I had Covid March 2020 before first lockdown, if I didn't was just a nasty flu like cold that lasted a few days.

All the restrictions have been far worse for me and my family than the fear of catching Covid. I realise this is not true for everyone.

Will fully embrace getting back to normal, also my medical treatment has been paused and while it's not life threatening it does hugely affect quality of life. So can't wait to get back on track with that.

Again, I know it's not the same for everyone but for me I need things to get back to normal.

KurtWilde · 06/07/2021 11:50

I've had covid, it's not even close to the most ill I've been in my life. Did you not go anywhere pre-covid for fear of getting ill or is it just this one particular virus that worries you?

Summerleaves · 06/07/2021 11:51
  • if I did have Covid that is
RocheLobe · 06/07/2021 11:51

No, but I have had no choice about my exposure to all along covid anyway, whether I wanted to limit it or not

Lucidas · 06/07/2021 11:52

@tedsletterofthelaw

Data from Israel shows that double Pfizer vaccine has something like 94% efficacy at stopping you catching the Kent variant, but that goes down to 63% percent with Delta. It’s not terrible but not great either.

hamsterchump · 06/07/2021 11:52

No, we'll be going out to things more. We've put off lots of things and put off pub visits/meals/shopping/day trips etc a lot because masks and social distancing have squeezed all the fun and spontaneity and enjoyment out of them so they're not worth paying for. The cinema's been the only thing that's still been good as you can take your mask off when you sit down, but I'd like to not have to choose my seat til I go in again.

That’s fine and it’s a personal choice, you can choose to avoid crowded places, others can choose to go to them, both opinions are fine as long as the individual makes that choice.

Angel2702 · 06/07/2021 11:53

I’m concerned for the kids who have no vaccine to protect them. I don’t want to be in a situation where we spend half the summer isolating and having to keep cancelling plans at the last minute. I really wish they had opened up vaccines for high school age at least. There are not enough adults vaccinated to protect the children.

secretllama · 06/07/2021 11:54

No. I wish the media would stop going on about cases too as I don't care.

Sharkology · 06/07/2021 11:55

Yes.

bigbluebus · 06/07/2021 11:56

I don't think I'll be heading for any crowded indoor venues any time soon. I'm happy to go to outdoor events - we're going to a smallish music festival on August (2000 people) where the bar is a marquee with a large open side - but will be avoiding crowded public transport and busy pubs once it's a free for all. Don't like crowds/queues anyway so tend to avoid in normal times. I always shop at quiet times too so will continue to do so.
Will see how things go after 'release day' before changing my habits completely.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 06/07/2021 11:56

Yes. CEV but cannot be effectively vaccinated.
The dc going to school is already a big risk and getting bigger every day.

OliveTree75 · 06/07/2021 11:57

No, we are going to enjoy going out lots over summer. OP you are double vaccinated + already had covid. You are more protected now than you will ever be.

MaudesMum · 06/07/2021 11:59

Nope. If somewhere v crowded I'd whip out my mask. And I'd do a lateral flow test or two after being somewhere like that and before seeing anyone who was particularly vulnerable.

I agree, since most cases aren’t people who are seriously ill I don’t see why this is a figure they keep reporting.
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 06/07/2021 12:02

It's very unfortunate that the perfect storm for the spread is going to coincide with the school summer hols. Remaining cautious and 'aware' when out and about will be the main thing (and we will be sticking with wearing our masks when out and about). However, we certainly won't be avoiding doing a reasonable number of fun activities. I'm getting an uneasy feeling already though about the start of the new academic year (selfishly so here, as DD will be in Year 11!).

Yes I'm aware. But the double vaccine DOES prevent serious illness and given the OP is double vaccinated and has previously covid, the chances of her both catching, and becoming ill with it again are very small. Of course it's still a risk, but is that risk really worth sacrificing our freedom even further once restrictions are lifted? For me that would be a big no!

redferrari · 06/07/2021 12:05

Same as you op. I had covid and it was terrible. Still can't smell or taste. I will be v cautious in summer. Won't be relaxed in indoor places. Only stick to outdoors.

This.
RubixCubix · 06/07/2021 12:06

Yes, I can't afford to catch it as I'll have to take time off work and won't be paid. I'm already in too much debt from the contact isolation I've had to do so far.
