As numbers go up, will you be avoiding public places?

I will certainly be cutting back on visits when numbers rise higher, even though I’ve had it and am double vacinated. I really don’t want to be ill again. It wasn’t pleasant.
At the moment I’m taking the risk but when masks are relaxed and if/when numbers are higher, I’ll be restricting my movements. I know I’m “low risk” but I still don’t want to be ill in bed again.

Anyone else?

@Wizzbangfizz

No ffs what is the point of everything we have done and the vaccines if we continue to shut ourselves away. Won't be wearing a mask either .
Actually, it's the other way round. What is the point of jeopardising everything we have done and gone through,, by choosing to open up just at the wrong moment because 'everyone is tired of it now'?
Bryonyshcmyony · 06/07/2021 20:51

I've been double vaccinated and so should everyone older or vulnerable by now. I'm happy to crack on

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 06/07/2021 20:57

Herd immunity was always the preferred option. So here we go.

MyCreateIsUsernamed · 06/07/2021 20:58

@kazzyhoward that is appalling. No wonder so many people have been infected via hospitals. That is a completely unsafe set up. And not for lack of resources either by the sounds of it: they took plenty steps to keep you all away from staff.

Also what you say about not being able to stay in forever is entirely true. Nobody lives like that.

Well, apart from residents in nursing homes maybe and fat lot of good that's done them.

I'm sorry your dh and you experienced that.

But there is now a vaccine.
blacktwill · 06/07/2021 20:59

No, I'm double vaccinated and so is every adult in my family, and I'm not concerned about the risk to the dc. We have a summer of fun planned for dd - theme parks, zoos, museums, theatre shows, a festival and a few weekend breaks away. We take public transport everywhere as we are car-free. We've been doing this whenever the venues have been open (including last summer) so the only difference is that things will be at full capacity and we won't be wearing masks. DD is much less anxious and more sociable than her peers who have been kept at home for months.

Wizzbangfizz · 06/07/2021 21:08

@cantkeepawayforever when will be the right time? How much longer? How many more businesses will fail, how many more cancer patients will go undiagnosed, how many more peoples mental health will suffer?

Zero covid in this country is totally unobtainable.

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 06/07/2021 21:11

Well, yes, but still. There is a percentage of the population who can/will become infected. We don't know what the 'threshold proportion' is going to be and when/how infection rates will decline.

Well good luck getting those cancer referrals when hospitals have to stop surgeries again due to the Covid numbers. One hospital in Scotland has already had to cancel elective surgery today. The best way to keep everything ticking over in the NHS is to get cases low. Getting rid of masks is utterly ridiculous as it doesn’t benefit the economy a bit. 70% of the population don’t want to ditch masks yet according to the latest YouGov poll. I’ll wager a high proportion of those won’t be shopping with wild abandon in packed shopping centres or going to theatres or shows. By allowing cases to rise so much the government are further harming the economy.

I'll take my chances thanks and spend my time supporting the businesses and business owners who have been on their knees and enjoy my life to the best of my ability instead of scare and doom-mongering.

Yes I feel a bit like this. Very keen to have some fun
Wizzbangfizz · 06/07/2021 21:30

Good for you @blacktwill

XpressoMartini · 06/07/2021 21:31

No. We continue to live as normally as possible, as we’ve been doing over the past 18 months. We’re no scared about covid, nor are the children. We have a lot planned over the summer including foreign holidays. We will be risking the quarantine on the way back, but it’s worth it.

TheVampiresWife · 06/07/2021 21:38

Whatever your stance on masks, this is demonstrably untrue. I live in a city whose local economy is massively reliant on socialising. Clubs and music venues have been closed for almost a year and a half. If masks were to remain mandatory they could not open. DD worked in the sector but lost her job at the start of LD1 and hasn't been able to find anything since. Thousands have lost their livelihoods in the hospitality industry. Social distancing and masks are incompatible with clubs/venues/late night bars etc.

JustABloodyMinute · 06/07/2021 21:52

Car free so no choice but to travel on packed public transport.

Sanguinesuzy · 06/07/2021 22:46

'I'll take my chances' - sorry but what you really mean is ' bugger others who may be vulnerable'. Simple as. Don't dress it up as being prepared to risk your own health. As you admit, you are a low risk but others aren't.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/07/2021 22:47

Nope. I'm CEV, but have had Covid and been doubled jabbed. I worked all the way. Through as didn't shield. I haven't avoided anything. We have got to live with it now.

Vulnerable people have been vaccinated by now.
redferrari · 06/07/2021 23:01

Does vaccination provide 100% safety?

So do we go on hiding forever to protect the vulnerable? We know Covid isn’t going anywhere and there has to be a cut off at some point.

minimal covid (rather than zero covid) would be better for all of those than rampant covid

Ultimatecougar · 06/07/2021 23:06

Given that I have Covid in my actual house at the moment and my vaccine appears to be working, I'm not going to worry about going out in public.

LilyPond2 · 06/07/2021 23:08

I am currently avoiding indoor public places as far as I reasonably can. Rates are so high in my local area that I am thinking we are probably around the peak of the current wave here unless we get a variant that is even better at evading vaccine protection than the current delta variant.

Lemonmelonsun · 06/07/2021 23:19

Yes.
I will be remaining cautious and starting to plan when we go out again and where too, we have something things planned in the next few weeks but will absolutely remain cautious.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 06/07/2021 23:20

No.
