As numbers go up, will you be avoiding public places?

I will certainly be cutting back on visits when numbers rise higher, even though I’ve had it and am double vacinated. I really don’t want to be ill again. It wasn’t pleasant.
At the moment I’m taking the risk but when masks are relaxed and if/when numbers are higher, I’ll be restricting my movements. I know I’m “low risk” but I still don’t want to be ill in bed again.

Anyone else?

I think that is very unrealistic though isn't it? To live the rest of your life avoiding getting ill.*

Millions of us with longterm serious medical conditions are long used to "spending the rest of our lives avoiding getting ill". It's just a change of mindset; new habits that become so automatic they are no hassle at all. Long before covid countless people have radically transformed their lives to stay alive; changed jobs, diet, lifestyle, hobbies, social activities .

It's a price worth paying , and guess what, you might even find those transformational changes make you a much healthier, happier person with a more fulfilling life.

Covid is going to launch ALL of us into a total re-evaluation of what really matters in life and society. A re-examination and shake-up of attitudes to work, education, health, housing , diet, spending, medical care, consumerism, community awareness and support.

       Don't be scared of change.[/quote]

I’m not clinically vulnerable but do have a serious heart condition.
I totally agree 2bazookas, I have completely reevaluated what counts and am much less stressed about things. I take much more pleasure in simple things like enjoying my small garden, lovely walks and good friends.

@secretllama it's not about my feelings re my own personal safety.

nc8765 · 06/07/2021 13:35

No.

nc8765 · 06/07/2021 13:38

@Twoforthree

I don’t want to be ill again. It was horrible. Isn’t that a good enough reason?

Why did you even bother getting vaccinated then?

Thewiseoneincognito · 06/07/2021 13:40

Absolutely.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 06/07/2021 13:41

No . I've been vaccinated and I'm not vulnerable. I'd rather not get a flu like illness of course, no one likes getting ill but I won't let that hamper me from getting back to normal.
I say this as someone with no contact with vulnerable people, everyone must make their own risk assessment.

Takingthewee · 06/07/2021 13:42

Probably not but i do a lot of sport, being ill means all that training is for nowt, so i've always avoided packed pubs in Winter, i ve been using alcohol hand sanitizer for years!

I wish people would stop saying CV is seasonal, its not, its summer, infections are raging and we are still in some restriction, CV nothing like what we ve been used too in the past.

But aren't we fortunate to have vaccines.

kindaclassy · 06/07/2021 13:43

I stick to do exactly what I have been doing, not less but certainly not more cautious. I avoid unnecessary crowds, but I won't stop having my hair done, going on holiday etc.

AnneElliott · 06/07/2021 13:44

I'm going to go out and about (I'm CEV but didn't isolate completely last year - I would have gone mad!) but will wear masks in crowded places.

I hope people do keep respecting personal space. I hate people standing right behind you in queues etc - even before Covid that was my pet hate.

theSunday · 06/07/2021 13:44

nah

roarfeckingroarr · 06/07/2021 13:45

No. I haven't been scared since the start and certainly am not now.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 06/07/2021 13:46

I want cases to be going down, not up and I want my child vaccinated. Then I'll go back to normal.

SummerSaladsAreBack · 06/07/2021 13:46

Yes to an extent. Certainly over the Summer there is absolutely no need to go anywhere crowded indoors. I'll be going out to eat with friends and to the pub but sitting outdoors. I have zero faith in the sense of the great British public.

I will do public transport only if I absolutely have to and will try to choose quiet times. Plenty of outdoor theatre and cinema available.

I don't feel deprived!

TheDinosaurMum · 06/07/2021 13:47

Nope, I'm double vaccinated. I chose to be vaccinated so I could enjoy life again. I'm vaccinated against all sorts of diseases that still circulate in the community, I don't lock myself away.

colourchanginglipstick · 06/07/2021 13:48

I live in Scotland and avoid all indoor places simply because I hate wearing a mask...if I was in England I might start going to some again soon!

KB921 · 06/07/2021 13:48

Not avoiding totally because that would be hard for anyone to do but making sensible decisions. Not going anywhere too packed. Maybe going places at quieter times - I love mornings anyway! Summer holidays soon. We tend to go tjings like swimming and soft play when it's really sunny as everyone it's outdoors and anything outdoors in the rain. Makes it quieter - yes I'm mad! 😂

PoorPawsPickPawpaws · 06/07/2021 13:49

I will be (avoiding busy places). I'm not especially against things opening up again as it probably is getting to be time but as a double vaccinated person with a compromised immune system I think I'll continue to keep my own head down a bit longer.

It helps that I am not a particular fan of really busy places, anyway.

JeanneDoe · 06/07/2021 13:49

Definitely not. My age group and demographic have been all but unaffected unless they're immunosuppressed.
I'll be out and about in all of my unmasked, double vaccinated glory.

Chocolatebox11 · 06/07/2021 13:50

Just out of interest, at which point are you going go start learning to live with it? It’s not going away. If you still don’t feel safe after 2 vaccines then when will you?

Middlesboroughgirl · 06/07/2021 13:51

Nop, I'll be having all the fun.

rookiemere · 06/07/2021 13:51

I'm double vaccinated and I really don't care if I catch covid but I do care about getting identified through track and trace and having to self isolate.

As I'm in Scotland- covid capital of Europe, if not the world- the numbers are super high at the minute, so the risk is real.

speakingofart · 06/07/2021 13:52

Nope! Not even for a moment…. Can’t wait to get back to normal and be able to go places without faff

lifeinlimbo2020 · 06/07/2021 13:52

Nope

LolaSmiles · 06/07/2021 13:53

I'll definitely be being cautious. I'd be happier if more things opened up with mitigation measures. I have no desire to be in close proximity to lots of people.

NotSure94 · 06/07/2021 13:54

I know they're just announced they're scrapping bubbles in schools to revert to contact tracing but honestly as children aren't vaccinated and the new variants are super contagious how are any of them going to spend any time in schools. The numbers show the way it's going for that age cohort, it's ripping through schools, that's only going to get worse isn't it?

Homeschooling will be back with avengance by October! It's like we are sleepwalking back into it all.

But to answer your Q OP - definitely. When I have been in London for work I have been walking not taking tube etc where poss and I'll keep that up.
