Sore throat

Senso21 · 06/07/2021 07:14

So my throat suddenly felt sore last night, more like burning at the back near tonsils. Nose slightly congested this morning. Nothing that I would even usually question, but in these times everything makes me worry.
Taken LFT last night and this morning. Both negative. Is that it, do I just resume business as usual? OTT post I know, I just never know what’s right/wrong when it comes to things like this nowConfused

Have you got a raised temperature?

TBH I'd be arranging a PCR to be sure. Are you in a high case area?

Senso21 · 06/07/2021 07:27

Temp is 36.8 so absolutely fine. Have been doing regular LFT test prior. Doubles vaxxed (2nd dose over 2 months ago) area cases quite high but I don’t really go anywhere. Little ones at school but bubbles still going

I had a sore throat and a blocked nose last Weds (no other symptoms) tested positive on PCR - however I did do a LFT before I booked the PCR that showed a very faint line. I am also double jabbed. Officially you don’t have to test and can go about your business. However it’s not beyond the realms of possibility you could have the virus given the current situation and the different symptoms Delta is presenting with. Maybe do another LFT later if you don’t want to book a PCR 🤷‍♀️

Senso21 · 06/07/2021 07:51

Thanks @DarceyDashwood - I will do one later, the 2 I’ve done last night and this morning are really clear negatives.

Hope you’re feeling ok and it didn’t progress into anything worse for you x

Feeling the same.
It's like a heavy cold. No temp.
Going to do LF test this morning.

IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble · 06/07/2021 07:58

Just to say all 4 of us have been positive for the last week, confirmed by PCR. None of us at anytime have had a temperature, I don't think that's an accurate symptom anymore, certainly it wasn't for us.

Longislandicedteaplease · 06/07/2021 08:00

I had exact same symptoms last week and also took 2 lateral flows that were negative so I went about my life as usual.
I didn't qualify for a pcr as I had no official symptoms.
I still had a slight sore throat yesterday but on the whole much better so if it was covid I got off lightly.

DarceyDashwood · 06/07/2021 08:27

@Senso21 thank you. Didn’t really get beyond a bad cold for me thankfully and other than still feeling quite tired I think I’m through the worst of it (touch wood). Never got properly to my chest so presuming the jabs did their job! That’s good about your LFT - probably just a cold then! I did 2 LFT tests and while the lines were faint on both of them they were clearly there and came up very quickly.

AmIPeriOrAreYouJustAnnoying · 06/07/2021 08:30

Just waiting for my LFT now.
One clear line so far.

Can you book a PCR if you just have sore throat runny nose dizziness/tiredness?

AmIPeriOrAreYouJustAnnoying · 06/07/2021 08:31

I don't feel the LFs are very reliable.

AmIPeriOrAreYouJustAnnoying · 06/07/2021 08:50

LFT says negative.

Northernsoullover · 06/07/2021 09:21

I'll say it once more for those in the cheap seats... if you have symptoms do not use an LFT. Its straight to PCR.

Senso21 · 06/07/2021 09:37

@Northernsoullover but just a lone sore throat isn’t a symptom to justify a PCR officially? That’s what makes me wonder what to do, as yes I could do a PCR but i haven’t got any key Covid symptoms and it would mean children off school and husband off work while I’m waiting for results

i had a sore throat and runny nose last week.

SandysMam · 06/07/2021 09:42

I had sore throat and sneezing when I had Covid. Never ever had a temperature and this was before vaccines. The symptoms list is completely out and probably why it spreads so quickly.

KurtWilde · 06/07/2021 09:44

According to what I've read LFT is actually slightly better at picking up a positive in people with symptoms than the PCR. I'll try and find the link. And you'd have to lie about symptoms to get a PCR. My youngest has had exactly the same as you for a week, negative LFT and I can't get a PCR because she doesn't tick any of the symptoms boxes. So I'm going with negative.

Symptoms on gov website for PCR are temp, loss of taste/smell & cough. I don't have those symptoms!

Be good to see which link. Thanks. .

If you use the Zoe app (free, simple) and log any symptoms that even might possibly be vaguely covid-y, it’ll usually email you to ask you to take a PCR test. There’s there’s an option on the gov ‘order a test’ page that says ‘I’ve been asked to do this by Zoe’ and you don’t need the ‘normal’ symptoms.

Albien · 06/07/2021 10:03

We’ve all had sore throat and runny nose for the past week. No temp, cough, loss of smell or taste. So we don’t qualify for PCR tests. We’ve done LFT which were negative. Do we have Covid? No idea.

I had a sore throat and runny nose last week, then turned to congestion, mine was a throat/chest infection, and I needed penicillin. Lat flow were negative as well as PCR.

I had congestion and a sore throat, double vaxxed, did a very negative LFT, three days later the most delightful sinusitis made itself known and has been my intermittent companion for the last two weeks. Grin

Got to the point over the weekend where I ordered a nasal irrigation kit.

KurtWilde · 06/07/2021 10:54

We're prone to waking up with a scratchy throat, congestion, kids have hay fever and my DS has asthma. I get my fair share of allergies. I'd be testing us all every other day if I took notice of some of the people who post on MN (in general not this thread in particular). That's simply not doable in busy family life. We do the LFT if someone wakes up groggy and that's good enough for me. We all had covid in January, the appropriate adults have been double jabbed, we can't carry on treating every sniffle as if it's covid. Other viruses are still available:
