Should we be worried about our children?

I know several families that are having to isolate due to children being in contact with cases at school. It seems like the Government is going for a herd immunity strategy amongst the young. Should we be concerned about this? I know the risk of dying is super low but I’ve seen a few doctors on Twitter (respected UK Drs) saying we shouldn’t be playing fast and loose with a novel virus as we don’t know the long term impacts.
What are your thoughts?
@Moonme yes absolutely. See any of hundreds of threads started by teachers suggesting these ideas. But that would involve government investment in education.
Unfortunately when teachers suggested these ideas to make schools safer and keep them over, many posters on here told them they were lazy and wanted schools to close.
Very sadly the government did its best media OR campaign re COVID against schools and blaming unions and teachers.

I'm still surprised how many people in an apparently educated country believed COVID loves a crowd and spreads rapidly without SD and masks everywhere but schools. Or believed that children didn't spread it or catch it.

@ThornAmongstRoses

I didn’t use to be worried....

But I’m a children’s nurse and we are seeing a definite increase in the number of children being admitted with Covid, some of whom are very, very sick Sad

Yes the narrative is definitely changing.

My ds is 16 and has hereditary spastic paraplegia. He is fully vaccinated. When still waiting for his jab past 12th April and we saw consultant they weren't too worried he wouldn't be fine by the group 6 deadline.

Had phone call last week to check he was done as they are seeing a link between long covid and neuro disability. (Not yet completed but evidence is appearing).

Chris Whitty also alluded to it in his speech at the last presser.

The government should at the very least be offering the vaccine to CEV and CV children.

Absolutely, it was incredible to see the contortions some posters squeezed into to help themselves believe this.

I have been concerned about long covid in children for a while, after seeing friends experiences, and would very much appreciate the opportunity to vaccinate all of my children.
