For those of you who had a child identified as a "close contact", did your child / many in the class go on to test positive?

You can probably guess what the phone call I've just taken was about!!

Straw not draw...

KindergartenKop · 02/07/2021 16:18

Nope. 3 isolations and no further cases as far as I know.

hopeishere · 02/07/2021 20:16

Thanks. We will just have to wait and see now I guess!

Is the child with covid you child's best friend? Or a random kid in the class?

FinallyGotAnIPhone · 02/07/2021 23:02

Nope.4 rounds of isolation so far. Ridiculous rules.

MrsBlondie · 02/07/2021 23:05

No positives. My son sat next to positive person for 2 hours as well.

Ineedanaptoo · 02/07/2021 23:11

DS class closed and 4 cases in his class, last one tested positive a week after the isolation period started. The other class is now self-isolating with a positive case and a flurry of PCR tests booked

tsmainsqueeze · 02/07/2021 23:26

My child sat next to a positive and caught it !

whataballbag · 02/07/2021 23:28

Yes

Benfoldspomped · 03/07/2021 01:00

Quite a few children were positive in my son's bubble last week and several other bubbles round the school. In the school my sister works in, one of the teachers who is double vaccinated is feeling very poorly at home.

PathOfLeastResitance · 03/07/2021 07:50

Yes. One positive child out of a class of 31 resulted in 14 more positive cases and then 2 days after that class isolated, the same happened in the other class from that year group and in 3 more classes with siblings in.

MinnieMountain · 03/07/2021 07:53

Our entire Reception year had to isolate. Not one case.

FASDE1517 · 03/07/2021 07:55

Nope, bubble popped 6 times now and each time was only one child.

hopeishere · 03/07/2021 08:03

@KindergartenKop

Don't know and the school won't say. I'm not in contact with any of the other parents.

Two periods of isolation and no further cases but that doesn't really mean anything as each situation is different. It must be different in lots of other schools as I see posts on here all the time about it “tipping” through schools.

Ethelswith · 03/07/2021 08:10

First time round, most of the school was out and one case (first set of contacts off) because 7 (classes off, plus some others) became 13 (most of the school off) became over 70.

This time, we're just at the start, DC sent home because of first pupil to report staying home symptomatic, positive LFT awaiting PCR (if PCR negative then they'd all come back). But she was positive, and during that time another positive has been reported. There will probably be more.

Secondary school - we find out far more than the school officially tells us because the news goes round pupils like lightning on social media, and includes things not known to teachers, like who is snogging whom

FindingMeno · 03/07/2021 08:13

We don't seem to be told much about cases.

kimlo · 03/07/2021 08:15

the first time dd1 had to self isolate for close contact she got a cough and tested positive a few days later. She's now in isolation again.

Dd2 has never had to isolate for school close contact, only for her sister. She didn't get it.

DC1 was a close contact of a positive case a couple of weeks ago and AFAIK no other kids in the year group tested positive. But when DC2 had to isolate last October other kids did catch it from the original case. So it varies.

TheChosenTwo · 03/07/2021 08:30

One of my dcs bubble burst and was sent home with one child testing positive with a lateral flow while they awaited PCR test. Ended up positive and 6 dc within that bubble went on to test positive over the course of the week they were off. That was out of 26 pupils in a senior school.
One dc tested positive in my class, another one during the week of isolation - they don’t sit anywhere near each other in the class.

Bewildered2021 · 03/07/2021 08:38

All of my 3 kids have been sent home due to one positive case in each class. After 10 days it remained just one positive case,

ForeverSausages · 03/07/2021 10:53

In our second isolation in 3 weeks after a teacher tested positive and then another teacher (year 1 son was only back 2 days). It's now gone up to 9 children in his class of 31 testing positive but I think that's because they've asked all the children to do PCR tests so not sure how many displayed symptoms. We're waiting on my son's results (he's absolutely fine) and praying self isolation will end soon 🤞.

Tangledtresses · 03/07/2021 14:02

0 cases in our primary school system since January

LemonCake79 · 03/07/2021 14:09

Three isolations with no further cases beyond the original one.
