Anti-lockdowners pretending to care about kids again

999 replies

noblegiraffe · 29/06/2021 17:11

So it's all over the news about how nearly 400,000 kids are having to isolate because of covid cases in schools. Complaints about how disruptive to education it is and to the mental health of the children involved. This disruptive isolation must end as soon as possible.

Contrast to last November when nearly a million kids were self-isolating in a week. Do you remember the headlines, discussions and outrage about that?

No, of course you don't. Because back then, the solution to so many kids isolating was to put more mitigation measures in schools and attempt to stop so many kids catching it.

Now they can argue that it doesn't matter if all kids catch it, they're all over the 'terrible' isolation figures which are less than half of those last year.

I'm SO done with people only caring about kids and education when they think that they can use them for their own benefit.

If these loud voices could be used to talk about things like the cuts to pupil premium, the pitiful covid catch-up funding, the critical shortage of teachers, the unsafe state of schools, the massive waiting lists for CAMHS and SEN services, then maybe I'd believe them when they claim to care about children.

@LolaSmiles there’s a vaccine. It works. Be glad. Live for the happy new isolation free full time school it brings.

Delatron · 30/06/2021 14:03

Why does noble want to have yet another discussion on this when we are about three weeks from the end of term and a few weeks from all restrictions being lifted?

Let’s not pretend she wants to have a discussion. Reread the OP. She wants to let off steam
and have a bit of a rant. Which is fine really. Even if what she says isn’t true. As many have challenged her.

Chillychangchoo · 30/06/2021 14:07

@Delatron

Indeed. Still the odd sycophant poster lurking in the background though in total support of her, as per usual. It’s a bit embarrassing now.

user68901 · 30/06/2021 14:14

here comes noblegiraffe again with her oh so shiney halo

CrappyBirthday2Me · 30/06/2021 14:29

I don't think the personal attacks on the OP are really necessary and makes it feel like people are worried by what she's posting. Maybe she has a point?

It's certainly true that the loudest voices definitely don't give a real fuck about education because it's been an absolute shambles for years and nobody has cared.

Noone on here "doesn't give a fuck about education" and other delightful things that have been said about people not agreeing with whatever nobles point is now.
Chillychangchoo · 30/06/2021 14:40

@Bryonyshcmyony

I know right? It’s mental isn’t it? If you don’t happen to agree with noble then all of a sudden you don’t give a flying fuck about education?

Astounding.

noblegiraffe · 30/06/2021 14:57

@cornflowersandpoppies

Is this about U4T?
They're one particular shitty campaign group who are guilty of what I said in my OP, yes.

There are others. I'd include the Daily Telegraph. The DfE too, tbh.

And of course plenty of unaffiliated individuals who are very keen to 'move on' from their opinions of Nov/Dec.

OP posts:
cornflowersandpoppies · 30/06/2021 15:11

But they aren’t synonymous with Mumsnet Smile

noblegiraffe · 30/06/2021 15:12

Where in my post did I say that they were?

OP posts:
cornflowersandpoppies · 30/06/2021 15:17

It sounded like you were addressing mumsnetters in your op

cornflowersandpoppies · 30/06/2021 15:18

@noblegiraffe

mog the anti lockdowners that are all over Mumsnet were completely silent on the effect of repeated isolations on children and their education before Christmas because anything that potentially drew attention to infection rates in schools was off-limits in case they decided to do something about it like introduce masks. Any suggestion of mitigation measures were a sign, it was claimed, that you wanted to close schools, in an effort to shut down conversations.

Every post about schools was met with my kid’s school is fine, zero cases. And yet now, when isolations are much lower the board is full of threads about how their kid has to isolate and how unacceptable it is.

They didn’t give a shit before.

WouldBeGood · 30/06/2021 15:19

So, rather than concerned parents posting on a parenting site, it’s a conspiracy coordinated by, and paid for, U4T; the Daily Telegraph ; and the DfE…?

This is getting concerning.

Chillychangchoo · 30/06/2021 15:24

@WouldBeGood

I mean the delusions of grandeur around a certain poster on mumsnet is truly astounding. If you disagree with her she assumes you’re getting paid. 😯

noblegiraffe · 30/06/2021 15:26

Yep, they come under unaffiliated individuals, cornflower.

noblegiraffe · 30/06/2021 15:27

Are italics special code ?

Flaxmeadow · 30/06/2021 15:58

Contrast to last November

OP It has been repeatedly pointed out to you, by numerous posters, that the difference between now and last November is that we now have a highly vaccinated population. Thats a massive and very important difference but you have refused to acknowledge it all through this thread.

BogRollBOGOF · 30/06/2021 16:01

@Chillychangchoo

Well you wasn’t so sure earlier 😉.

I even got a special flower on here today Grin.

I got special flowers last year for complaining about the abysmal quality of work set by DS's teacher before she dumped our year group to teach another one to not be heard of again for the rest of the year. Made all the more insulting by the other teacher in the same school setting decently resourced work and still checking in despite the change of commitments.

The irony is that as an experienced (albeit former) teacher, I can recognise sub-standard work when I see it.

borntobequiet · 30/06/2021 16:02

This is just so untrue! Do you really think that teachers are the only ones in unsafe working conditions?!

No. I said required to work in unsafe conditions. Who else has been told not to wear face coverings in the workplace, or to mix with many others not wearing face coverings and not able to socially distance?

cornflowersandpoppies · 30/06/2021 16:05

That’s not quite true though born

Schools have varied. Some have had visors and socially distanced in the classroom. I’m sure some haven’t but it’s not a blanket statement: maybe that’s the whole problem here, it can get very ‘well in MY school …’

Wildewoodz · 30/06/2021 16:12

One million times yes! Claim to care about kids when it suits their agenda then back actions that are in the worst interests of children and their futures the rest of the time.
Disgraceful.

This is not true.
Retail, public transport, food/essential factories and all kinds of workers had to work at one time or another without masks and other measures or difficulties implementing measures

Also jobs that might not be obvious. I know a plumber who, by law, still had to do gas safety checks in social housing at the very start of all this. Because the checks don't take long and because it was done within neighbourhoods, he was doing dozens of these checks every few days, all different households, all no mask at first.
