DH self isolating and it’s unbearable!

Squarerimmedspectacles · 28/06/2021 21:52

He is self isolating for 10 days after coming into contact with a positive case.

He normally runs 3 times a week (he’s a very proficient and experienced fell runner). He’s been training for a race. It’s also a stress reliever for him.

Anyway, as he can’t leave the house for 10 days (now 7) let alone go for a run, he’s unbearable, his mood is foul and it’s doing my head in. When he runs it’s usually up on the hills/moorland as we live rurally, and he never really sees another living soul. But of course these are the rules, but it’s utterly horrific to live with Sad I don’t think the impact of this kind of thing , especially the impact of regular exercise on people’s mental health. We don’t even have a proper garden either.

If I were him, and lived rurally, I would drive somewhere where I would come into contact with no-one and go for a run. The risk is so close to nothing as to make no difference, as is the risk of anyone reporting him and him getting fined. My 6-yo is currently isolating because of a case in school and we have driven him out into the country for a walk. Not willing to lock him up for 10 days when all of the vulnerable are now vaccinated.

frozendaisy · 28/06/2021 22:02

Give him a list of strenuous jobs.

Bagelsandbrie · 28/06/2021 22:03

If you genuinely live rurally and he isn’t likely to meet another soul I’d encourage him to go for a run. He’s not going to spread anything in an empty field.

I honestly and genuinely think that if someone can't stay indoors for 10 days without making everyone around them miserable they have something seriously wrong with them
Iggly · 28/06/2021 22:05

It’s not your fault he has to isolate and he should stop taking it out on you. It’s only a few days and he’s being unreasonable.

Crowsaregreat · 28/06/2021 22:06

This is what Joe Wicks is for

Signoramarella · 28/06/2021 22:09

Bloody let him out. I just had ten days self isolating. I didn't. Fuck that. Walks everyday. Test daily. If you're fine, crack on. I would commit suicide. Ten days home with 2 children alone no way.

RugratMum · 28/06/2021 22:10

Treadmill?

greenlynx · 28/06/2021 22:15

Aren’t he supposed to be self isolating without bothering you?

ThatOtherPoster · 28/06/2021 22:17

He hasn’t had a run for 3 days so far and he’s already unbearable, his mood is foul and it’s doing my head in?

Eek. When you look ahead to his retirement, how long do you think he’ll live before you murder him? One week? Two?

Seriously, he sounds pretty selfish.

TheDevils · 28/06/2021 22:19

He sounds pretty selfish.
My 6 year old is currently isolating and it sounds like he's coping better than your DH.

It's annoying but you've just got to get on with it.

NotYourHolidayDick · 28/06/2021 22:19

Go for a run for Christ sake.
I'm firmly in the 'fuck the rules' camp.

aiwblam · 28/06/2021 22:23

I don't think it would be any risk to anyone if he went out running at 5am or something. Surely he would encounter nobody? Plus he's probably jabbed anyway? Blindly applying rules over common sense is ridiculous IMO, although much of Britain has become this way. I needed to pick up my 8yo's PE bag and rather than me being allowed to just nip in the school cloakroom and grab it, my then 8yo was the only one allowed to do this (presumably in case I molested any kids there). As it happens, my ds has SEN and he went to retrieve this bag and a 10yo bully saw my ds and beat the crap out of him. But hey - all the boxes were bloody well ticked. (This was before covid).

joystir59 · 28/06/2021 22:25

Let him run.

Pootle40 · 28/06/2021 22:26

You live rurally. What on earth will happen if he goes for a run? Jesus.

GoWalkabout · 28/06/2021 22:29

He can do workouts or jobs. People did stair climbing challenges in lockdown. Set him a goal!

SoMuchForSummerLove · 28/06/2021 22:30

Why are people telling the OP to 'let' him out?? She's not his jailer.

He wants to act like a grown up though, and stop taking his frustration out on his family like a dick.

My 8 year old is doing better at self isolating.

Bytheloch · 28/06/2021 22:31

Ha, absolutely no reason not to be out for a run...unless ill and bed ridden with symptoms.
The isolation rules have no reasoning, especially for children (tested negative, whose parents can still go to work, siblings to school. Bonkers!) but grown adults who live rurally, get outside for some fresh air!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 28/06/2021 22:33

My dh runs and it's a stress reliever for him. In January 2020 he broke his ankle (during a race) and couldn't do anything for 6 weeks including driving. We live rurally so he was stuffed. He managed. He wasn't vile to live with even though he was frustrated at times.

Tell your dh to pull himself together. He sounds very childish.

Branleuse · 28/06/2021 22:35

Tell him to pack it in or do a workout video. Why is he taking it out on you?

Squarerimmedspectacles · 28/06/2021 22:40

I haven’t told him he can’t go for a run. I actually said similar to what these replies are saying…he says he’s not allowed and he has to follow the rules Sad and yes he’s been jabbed.

InTheNightGarter · 28/06/2021 22:41

Why on Earth isn't he going for a run in a totally isolated area? Can't people employ any sodding common sense any more? It's as though people are desperate to be these covid martyrs for some unknown reason.

RugratMum · 28/06/2021 22:41

Why are people telling the OP to 'let' him out??

Because he needs walkies.

Squarerimmedspectacles · 28/06/2021 22:43

We live very rurally. He goes right onto the hills and it’s totally isolated up there. He usually only sees some sheep. To me it’s totally bonkers and I think some common sense needs to be applied here.
The indoor exercise wouldn’t help him, it’s about being out in the open space and fields/moorlands running.
He’s working from home , so most of the day is doing that anyway, on his laptop.

InTheNightGarter · 28/06/2021 22:43

"He needs to follow the rules"

Oh come on. He could go for a run and come into contact with no one. The rules say you have to self isolate. They don't say you have to remain indoors. He sounds thick.
