Just that really. Who’s still got the app and is acting on its advice?
I deleted the app a few months ago as I hadn’t used it for ages (or had any changes in status etc) but had to re-add it recently to get in a venue and it’s just buzzed saying I have been in contact with someone recently who’s tested positive! I haven’t been with anyone outside my bubble since Friday so it’s so frustrating getting this notification when have no symptoms and I’m also fully vaccinated. I know lots of people who don’t use the app anymore so just wondered what the consensus was on here!

I'd ignore it. I'm considering whether or not to delete it as I think it can be more hassle than it is worth.

I've even been in a couple of places recently where the QR code just wouldn't scan at all. In one of them you had to buy food first and then scan the code when you sat down at the table. Nope. It wouldn't scan, So I just pretended that the code had scanned and sat eating my food and drinking my coffee.

SecretKeeper1 · 23/06/2021 18:27

Never used it. I’m more than happy to give my contact details in a restaurant or anywhere else that needs it, but I’m not having the app as well.

HeronLanyon · 23/06/2021 18:27

I haven’t downloaded it. Got close a few months ago but read reviews about no sign out time causing ill définies warnings etc when maybe you hadn’t been in same place at all but hours separate.
Went for lunch today and signed in old stylée.

NothingIsWrong · 23/06/2021 18:30

I never did use it. I have it downloaded to check in to places, but the contact tracing is off and stays that way.

WilsonMilson · 23/06/2021 18:31

I never downloaded it. Happy to track and trace in restaurants and when required, but they can stick their data mining app up their arse.

Orf1abc · 23/06/2021 18:32

Deleted it long ago.

Looking in the app store, it has a 4.5 star rating, but almost every review is 1 star. Something dodgy there.

ChocOrange1 · 23/06/2021 18:33

I turned off contact tracing. I use it if I have to check into a venue, because I don't believe they can "track and trace" you from that, its more for tracing where outbreaks may have started.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 23/06/2021 18:41

I never downloaded it. If a pub etc wants my contact details then that's no problem, but I am not having the app.

CrazylazyJane · 23/06/2021 18:45

I've still got it but turned my Bluetooth off, so it can't track me for random interactions. We got stung when we were pinged and told to isolate. Turns out it was our neighbours. The bloody thing didn't realise there was a bedroom wall between our semi-detached houses.

I turn the Bluetooth back on to check into venues. I don't mind isolating if I've had a genuine exposure risk but I'm double vaccinated and have had Covid.

starfish4 · 23/06/2021 18:51

I've still got it. I work with 200 children who I really can't distance from. We're fairly sure a member of staff passed it to a child, and I couldn't live with the fact I'd passed it onto one of our children and in turn their family (who I know nothing about in terms of vulnerability).

kimlo · 23/06/2021 19:02

I do. The only time it has told me isolate it was dd1, dh has only been told because of dd1 and some one at work. Dd1 has never been told to.

I also work with lots of children I can't distance from.

fedup078 · 23/06/2021 19:15

I've still got it but I turned off the tracking when I got pinged knowing full well I hadn't been near anyone else that day.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 23/06/2021 19:17

Same here.
olivethegreat · 23/06/2021 19:19

I use it for venues rather than faff of giving my name, and because if the app pings me I can ignore it (within reason, I wfh and walk on the common daily, which I would not give up (rural), I would stay away from shops etc tho if I got pinged).

olivethegreat · 23/06/2021 19:21

I didn't know you could turn off contact tracing . How handy.

Downtown36 · 23/06/2021 19:21

Yes - I have contact tracing off and just use it to log into venues if they remind me.

shinynewapple21 · 23/06/2021 19:26

I have it and use it to check into venues .

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but a 'ping' from the app saying you have been in contact with a Covid positive is not a legal instruction to isolate as they cannot tell how close you may or may not have been .

If somebody names you to T&T when they are questioned after
Testing positive then they will phone you and you have to isolate as you are a close contact.

If my understanding is correct I don't see why using the app is a problem .

Wowthisisreal · 23/06/2021 19:31

@NothingIsWrong

Same!
CornishYarg · 23/06/2021 20:36

Like pp's, I have it to check into places but have switched contact tracing off

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/06/2021 20:45

I'm going to London next month so I'm presuming I'll need the app to check in. If I download it and turn of contact tracing I presume there's no way I'll get pinged and my number won't be stored anywhere? I'll be deleting it when I get home.

Whatshouldicallme · 23/06/2021 20:50

@PinkSparklyPussyCat

Most places don't actually require you to have the app. They can just take or manually enter your name and phone number. I can't be bothered to download it!

Teenagedream · 23/06/2021 20:50

It's ridiculous. My daughter a teacher in secondary school has been pinged tonight and has to self isolate until next Thurs. She hasn't been out so probably a pupil. She's tests twice a week but had to abide by this random notification. I think she ought to turn it off in school.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/06/2021 20:54

That's what I've done so far @Whatshouldicallme, I was wondering if the museums in London might be different. I did download it once out of curiousity but I deleted very quickly!

HiHoSylvie · 23/06/2021 21:06

I deleted mine recently. I had it to check into venues, but nobody has asked me to in ages, unless I'm eating in a restaurant, which I don't very often.

I take track and trace seriously, but the app seems to be too flawed and I haven't even opened it for weeks, except to input my negative surge test result and another negative PCR test result when I had what I thought could be covid symptoms.

Spekoppar · 23/06/2021 21:31

I have it. Use it for checking into venues. Contract tracing is on but I’ve never been ‘pinged’ despite taking public transport regularly etc. I do live somewhere which has had relatively low rates throughout though.
