Why aren’t more of the Scotland football team self isolating since one of their players has tested positive?

Also, why aren’t the members of the England team he came into contact with plus coaches and support stuff etc?

It really does feel like the rules are only applied to us normal folk

It may be we will know later on if more of the Scotland team do so.

As for the England team, they were not within 6 foot of him for the game in any case, never mind for 15 minutes!

gillianwalmsley · 21/06/2021 12:26

how spooky, I came on to ask exactly this and it was already there three minutes ago! I mean, they eat together, socialise, train... I fear that further positive tests mean this could be it for Scotland. To be honest, I'm finding aspects of this tournement unfair already: how come England get three games at Wembley, Italy get three in Rome, but the little countries are travelling all over with no 'home' advantage.

Abraxan · 21/06/2021 12:29

Just read the same on BBC News app.

I can't understand how, if the team is a bubble, why the rest aren't close contacts. If it was any other work place they would be.

Yet again it looks like sport has different rules than the rest of the country Hmm

CovidCorvid · 21/06/2021 12:29

Apparently they've been busy deleting social media posts showing the player who tested positive playing table tennis with other players after the last match. And are saying there's "no close contacts"

NannyAndJohn · 21/06/2021 12:30

Footballers can get away with anything.

The Euros never should have gone ahead.

AnyFucker · 21/06/2021 12:35

Good question. Let’s see the double standards play out right in front of our eyes (again)

Public compliance is slipping away very quickly now

Faffinator · 21/06/2021 12:36

It's turning into 1984 in this country..... They will have been together on the coach, in the gym, in the changing rooms, at meal times. They are close contacts. But they're not close contacts.

CovidCorvid · 21/06/2021 12:36

I'd love to see what Nicola Sturgeon has to say about this! She's been so strict about lots of other stuff (though not scottish fans travelling to london and returning).

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 21/06/2021 12:40

Because football has a magical protective effect against covid.

That's why we can have thousands of supporters on Glasgow Green, but we can't have weddings or funerals.

frasersmummy · 21/06/2021 12:42

It's a very good question..whole classes are made to self isolate and yet.....

Honestly the Scottish govt have lost the plot

Didn’t you know it’s only children that have to self isolate time and again

MrsSquirrel · 21/06/2021 12:46

Because football has a magical protective effect against covid.

And money has a magical protective effect against covid.

HeronLanyon · 21/06/2021 12:46

This was my first thought too. Yes they are all testing but isolation is required no matter. Surely ?

rookiemere · 21/06/2021 12:49

Perhaps they are also part of the magical trial that Michael Gove is in that means you don't need to self isolate if you're busy and important.

ZoBo123 · 21/06/2021 12:51

Not defending them but they are all regularly tested, the England team have no positive cases and neither has the rest of the Scotland team today. Also, though contentious, they are athletes and will not be badly affecting by Covid so a case matters less? It is time we started applying these rules to more situations though, eg not whole classes isolating when others could be tested

3asAbird · 21/06/2021 12:53

I'm fed up my sons self isolating again this week 2nd case bubble.
Missing his cricket match and cricket practice this week.

No wonder lots won't adhere to the rules its a joke

Blessex · 21/06/2021 12:55

@ZoBo123 agree with you. But that’s not the issue is it. The issue is one rool for them another for us ordinary people. Won’t be pulling my kids out of school again for close contact.

rookiemere · 21/06/2021 12:57

@Blessex but us plebs don't get the choice. I'd happily make DS endure daily tests if the alternative was missing school, but we don't get that option.

Blessex · 21/06/2021 12:58

@rookiemere our only fightback is to stop the twice weekly lateral flow tests for our kids. Just stop.

BoomChicka · 21/06/2021 12:58

It really is one rule for us plebs and another for the rich.

But I regularly test. So could I just not bother to isolate if dh was positive? I mean if I test every day then that's ok? I doubt it!

And while they may not get covid badly personally by not isolating they can pass it to others. I'm sure they visit shops, bars, etc.

I'm tested twice a week. I'm also double vaccinated and a month ago I still had antibodies from when I caught Covid in October.

Despite this I am still expected to self isolate if there is a positive case in one of my primary school classes, or if I get caught by T&T when out.

It should remain the same rules for all. Not special rules because you play football.

Schulte · 21/06/2021 12:59

No close contacts except at one point they were all in a big heap in front of one of the goals Hmm then there’s the yelling, and sweating, and tackling, and spitting... DD’s volleyball COVID rules say she’s not allowed to spit. Not that she would!

Blessex · 21/06/2021 13:01

@Schulte oh and the vid showing him playing table tennis the night before with team mates. Wearing no mask. That’s not close contact though is it. They are cornered now!
