How many isolations?

LoopTheLoops · 20/06/2021 22:02

Just got an email today to say my sons class has to close again and isolate AGAIN, this is the 7th time! Because I have other children it means we all have to stay home and I have to keep the other 2 at home as well for 10 days because I have no one else to do the school run with the others. 7 times now! Yet some people have seemed to only need to isolate once, or not even at all. How many times have you needed to isolate?

None.

There have been 3 known cases at DS's school in total, none in his year group so he hasn't had to isolate.

Quite a few cases at my workplace but I wasn't a close contact with any of them.

LoopTheLoops · 20/06/2021 22:08

None Shock feeling pretty jealous now!!

Oh no :(
Just once when DS had a temperature but it came back negative, so only isolated for a day.
Zero isolations from burst bubbles or close contacts (2 DC in school and I also work in one).

OnlyCans · 20/06/2021 22:16

Are you in a hotbed? Some of my colleagues have quite a few times but we never have. I don't work where I live but I work in a hotbed. Bedford to be precise. The other class in DDs year group did so have been extremely lucky.

whatkatydid2013 · 20/06/2021 22:18

Twice for a day waiting for PCR results when smalls had a cold, once for a class bubble popping and OH just got a message on the app he needs to isolate for until next Sunday due to contact with someone who tested positive. He was at a client last week so we assume from being there. Think we’ve been relatively lucky on the whole with it.

shouldistop · 20/06/2021 22:19

7 seems ridiculous! How old is your child who has to isolate? Is there no one who can keep an eye from a distance while you take the others to school?

70 days is a shit load of school to miss. Really annoys me that this is happening to children when grown men have been allowed to meet in the thousands this past week.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 20/06/2021 22:20

7 seems a lot! What’s the criteria for the isolation? At my school is within 2m of the infected person. So one positive kid usually knocks out around 12 ish from a class then the social side of it. Are they shutting the whole class down each time?

shouldistop · 20/06/2021 22:21

I had to isolate for a cough last March. DS1 spiked a fever on Christmas Eve in the afternoon, we got him a test 2 hours later and negative result Christmas morning.
No other isolations or symptoms

Bootskates · 20/06/2021 22:24

Once when DD had symptoms- negative test result after a couple of days

0 for burst bubbles in school (touch wood- knowing my luck she'll be sent home to isolate tomorrow now Blush)

LoopTheLoops · 20/06/2021 22:25

We are in a south east London borough, child is 9 but can’t leave him at home alone, school run is 40 minutes there and back. They are isolating the whole class each time. I am annoyed my others have to miss school, wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t have to keep all children off. Can’t believe how many times we have had to isolate compared to others! One time back when it was 2 weeks we had to isolate for 2 weeks then he went back to school and 3 days later was told to isolate again! For 2 weeks 😑

LoopTheLoops · 20/06/2021 22:26

We are obviously very unlucky!

cupsofcoffee · 20/06/2021 22:26

Just once when I had a cough last March.

Fallulah · 20/06/2021 22:29

I think only your son needs to isolate as he’s the contact, not all of you, unless son develops symptoms or tests positive on an LFD (rest of you then isolate until confirmed by PCR - freed if negative). I only have experience of secondary but it’s only close contacts (ie sitting within two metres or close friend at break etc) who are sent home and told to isolate.

I’ve isolated once, when my partner developed symptoms and then tested positive, and then I tested positive on day 6 or 7 so had to isolate for longer.

Forstarters · 20/06/2021 22:30

Three times here. SE too. Other schools in the area have been far more. If children can’t get vaccinated then anyone who hasn’t been vaccinated shouldn’t be allowed in school - like care homes. Children can’t protect themselves from these repeated isolations and some kids in certain areas are going to massively lose out on education.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 20/06/2021 22:32

Once over the Easter hols when ds3 tested positive

shouldistop · 20/06/2021 22:34

Is there a reason you can't leave him home alone? Is it just because you feel it's too long?

LoopTheLoops · 20/06/2021 22:34

Yes it’s only my son but he can’t be left home alone and I am a single parent so means we all have to stay in.

OP posts:
LoopTheLoops · 20/06/2021 22:35

He’s autistic

OP posts:
cupsofcoffee · 20/06/2021 22:35

If you drive I would still take the other kids to school, tbh.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 20/06/2021 22:37

How old are other two? Can they run in and you and son stay in car? Or son stay in car fir 5 while you drop them. It’s not as if son is mixing with anyone?

shouldistop · 20/06/2021 22:37

@cupsofcoffee that's a good point, could you leave your 9yo in your car? Can the school provide transport for your other kids maybe?

danni0509 · 20/06/2021 22:38

@LoopTheLoops my friends son is 8 and autistic, when he had to isolate she took him on the school run with her obvs couldn’t leave him alone.

Not telling you to do this, just what she did.

LoopTheLoops · 20/06/2021 22:39

I don’t drive, school is 20 mins there and 20 mins back, we walk I don’t have a car

West London.

15yo DD has had to isolate 5 times and her school has shut twice on the orders of public health in additon to the 2 lockdowns.

Younger 2 have had to isolate once each and their school shut early at christmas.

Its fucking relentless.

HSHorror · 20/06/2021 22:39

If it had been 10d all the time it wouldnt be 70 school days obviously
Minimum of 2 weekend/holiday days each time so
70-14= 56
But possibly some running into holidays. But op has also said sone were 14d so increases a bit.
Worse that the dc cant leave the property. And that this is in addition to any homeschool times.
Approx
35w* 5d =175 school days
175-56= 119
less the homeschooling.
Maybe 40d homeschooling.
So maybe 79d /175 in school.
45%.

My kids are
Up to 125/175
=71% so still not good.
Usually would just miss maybe 5d a year for d&v
