How many isolations?

Just got an email today to say my sons class has to close again and isolate AGAIN, this is the 7th time! Because I have other children it means we all have to stay home and I have to keep the other 2 at home as well for 10 days because I have no one else to do the school run with the others. 7 times now! Yet some people have seemed to only need to isolate once, or not even at all. How many times have you needed to isolate?

How old are your other kids? Do you know any other families walking the same way?

BirthdayCakeBelly · 20/06/2021 22:52

3x here and count ourselves lucky.
Do you have a class whatsapp group? I’ve done pick up and drop off for a family when only one of their DC had to isolate. You could try that?
Or a school Facebook page? Definitely worth a try.

LoopTheLoops · 21/06/2021 00:30

Unfortunately I don’t really know any of the other parents so not really an option. We will just have to get on with it, frustrating though! School is fine with me keeping them all off.

None

kimlo · 21/06/2021 06:24

for close contact not in the household,

dd1 once, she caught covid.
dh once, he didn't get covid.

Me and dd2 none.

motherrunner · 21/06/2021 06:57

Between Sept-Oct last year GCSE and Alevel classes at my school were out more than they were in. Twice we closed fully to all pupils. It was awful seeing so many pupils and staff ill.

motherrunner · 21/06/2021 06:58

Sept-Dec I meant!

Clickbait · 21/06/2021 07:00

Seven times seems incredibly unlucky!

For me it's DC1 once, DC2 once and DC3 not at all.

Clickbait · 21/06/2021 07:01

And me and DH not at all.

Whatalottachocca · 21/06/2021 07:04

None. We’ve not had a single case at our school & I only know three people who’ve had Covid.

HelloDulling · 21/06/2021 07:07

My DD is in Year 10. From October half term and end of term in Dec they had three spells of isolation for a burst bubble. Once they were only back in for a day and a half. Fortunately they switched straight to online teaching, but was rubbish for her.

DS has had none.

CovidCorvid · 21/06/2021 07:09

I’d walk the other kids to school and take your son. He doesn’t actually have Covid, it’s outside, don’t talk to anyone. 🤷‍♀️

PracticingPerson · 21/06/2021 07:09

Only once for us, I was surprised by that, I thought we would have had another time during the Nov/Dec period as things were hairy.

PracticingPerson · 21/06/2021 07:09

And Flowers OP, I think you have been really unlucky.

Lanique · 21/06/2021 07:17

I agree with this.

We've had to do it three times but on each occasion I've been able to get the sibling to school. We all pitch in and help each other here. I know you say you don't know the other parents but have you tried asking anyone? I've been asked in similar circumstances and have been very happy to help out. Even where I haven't know the child I'm walking with particularly well my DC have so they've been comfortable coming with us.

Failing that I'd do as @CovidCorvid suggests. This is beyond ridiculous now. You can't keep all your healthy children off school for another ten days.

BTW, I'm sorry your son has to isolate again. It absolutely sucks.

Imnothereforthedrama · 21/06/2021 07:37

Whole household twice , dc 2 other times so 4 times total due to school bubble.
That’s crap op !

Baileysforchristmas · 21/06/2021 07:42

1 for a false positive, I don’t test anymore. Our area is pretty good at the moment, all 150 schools are open.

LadyPenelope68 · 21/06/2021 07:45

I’m a primary teacher, in a high rate/hot spot area, just finished my 9th period of isolation - properly fed up now!

Firstworddinosaur · 21/06/2021 07:48

3 times, all because of school outbreaks. It sucks. Sorry OP I hope it's the last for you.

MarshaBradyo · 21/06/2021 07:50

7!

I’m SE London too, we’ve had 1, on it now and it’s bad enough

I’d take the other dc to school

MarshaBradyo · 21/06/2021 07:51

I’d just walk them all there and bring him home

BingBangBong1 · 21/06/2021 07:53

This is exactly why they need to bring in the Lateral flow testing daily for those near a positive case. It's getting ridiculous!

MarshaBradyo · 21/06/2021 07:55

Isolating is worse than lockdown you can’t exercise daily

It shouldn’t be done this lightly and healthy children shouldn’t be stuck at home repeatedly on mass

ifonly4 · 21/06/2021 07:56

I think you've been very unlucky, OP. Are you in a constantly high risk area? Here, DD isolated once - had contact 2-3 three positive friends (she had a PCR and three LFTs which showed she was negative). DH once through the gym. I work in a primary school with two whole year bubbles - lucky for me they're the only years which have avoided isolation.
