Details in link to tweet. (i cant do screenshots) They can sit and swivel on a rusty spike if they think im doing another Christmas lockdown. Are they trying to sabotage the autumn booster uptake? Because i can see some not bothering if they go ahead with this.

Welcome to Narnia. Where we get winter but no Christmas!!!

I think they have found a way of saving money on the NHS. Just keep us all locked up all winter. What a load of crap.

MercyBooth · 16/06/2021 23:47

Absolute cunts.

TheClaws · 17/06/2021 01:33

Did you actually read it, Mercy? This isn't an official source of any kind. It's a 'prediction' from 'sources', eg. don't get all het up about it, and certainly don't start calling people c**ts for doing something they haven't done yet.

MercyBooth · 17/06/2021 02:11

@TheClaws 'predictions' from unnamed 'sources' via Twitter have been at the forefront of the government's answer to covid communications since the beginning.

  1. Leak the strategy.
  2. Monitor public opinion.
  3. Review the message / finer details and tweak.

Then:

Officially tell us all during a briefing roughly what we read on Twitter three days ago.

Or

Officially tell us all during a briefing marginally less bad news than the terrible news we read on Twitter three days ago (we really, really like this one. Works a charm).

It's like this fun little game of hunt the cunt where tweets pop up and you have to work out if it's a whitehall source or a whitehall source. You appear to have spotted a whitehall source but I personally think it might be a whitehall source. Meet ya back here at Christmas, winner gets to buy themselves a selection box (if they're not banned like Easter Eggs) 🎅🏻

Baycitystroller · 17/06/2021 03:09

Some experts are lobbying for stricter winter measures…. That’s all it says. No point in trying to second guess and saying there’ll be a lockdown. Lockdown not even mentioned.

NannyAndJohn · 17/06/2021 04:17

Where's the mention of lockdown, @MercyBooth?

I happen to agree with them. If cases are rising exponentially in the summer then I dread to think what'll happen in winter. As we saw at the start of the year, winter is a terrible time to let a new Variant loose.

exactly , everytime they start up with their could and shoulds and predictions , recommendtions , next thing we know its becoming a reality , i am so fucked off with it its untrue , by christmas everyone who wants to be vaccinated should have had both doses by then .so there should be no reason for any more fucking masks ,restrictions ,none !!
Waxonwaxoff0 · 17/06/2021 05:03

I absolutely won't be following any restrictions regarding household mixing at Christmas. They can say what they want.

FindingMeno · 17/06/2021 05:08

I'm very compliant with the rules but I truly don't understand this, if, as I'm assuming, everyone is vaccinated by then.
There'll always be a risk, and covid will always be around, granted, but I thought it'd settle down to becoming background noise with vaccines.
Are they thinking that more variants will crop up that the vaccine isn't so effective on because of global lack of vaccinations?

That was last Christmas and this is June. The person is quoting unnamed sources who may not exist. If you're going to get upset, do it in December if it happens - not 6 months beforehand from pure hearsay.

An awful lot of people who mixed last christmas ended up with corona virus, some of them were admitted to hospital and some of those died. If rates are as high this december as they were then. Then not mixing is the sensible action (particularly with older family members blah, blah, blah). Why would you endanger your loved ones ? Yes vaccines exist, they are not 100% also
a) Oxford works less well than pfzeir
b) The older and sicker you are the less well the vaccine "takes"
LFTs are only about 50%

leafygarden42 · 17/06/2021 06:02

Hahahaha

The lockdown is going to happen long before Christmas!!

October is a lot more likely - and no doubt it will be after they've hesitated etc .

Jennyfromtheculdesac · 17/06/2021 06:09

Jesus. It’s like half the people on this thread haven’t even heard of the vaccine programme.

Rates are mainly rising in the unvaccinated population.

newnortherner111 · 17/06/2021 07:03

What Christmas lockdown was there last year? A polite or not so polite request nothing else.

I expect face coverings on public transport and in shops may return, and perhaps table service in pubs or some restrictions on very large gatherings, but no more.

I don’t get it either. I’d rather put my own wants aside for the sake of others health. I’d never want to risk loved ones.

Tbf, if we can get to the end of August without having to revere some of the roadmap we’ll be doing well.
CeCePlus · 17/06/2021 07:37

The Christmas 'lockdown' was due to an enormous number of daily cases, hospitalisations and deaths.

What other option was there?

People were allowed to mix on Christmas Day.... we didn't, but I know a family who did - 6 of them ended up with Covid - the grandparents were hospitalised soon after and the grandfather died a few weeks later 😞.

I would choose not to mix if cases were at he same levels again.

HelloMissus · 17/06/2021 07:40

Well the great and the good of MN will be pleased.
They treat driving up the M1 to eat a roast dinner with family akin to the Greek Odyssey.

London was effectively in lockdown. Can’t remember if other areas were too.

I'd say it's the choice of the vulnerable relatives. An elderly and sick person might be wondering how many Christmases they have left and might want to spend the precious time with their family.
HelloMissus · 17/06/2021 07:45

Wax quite.
Condemning the elderly to isolation in order to ‘save’ them. How very noble.

I don’t see this as sabotage of the booster, but encouragement. I expect them once there’s a booster to start the “we need restrictions until the vulnerable are vaccinated with the third vaccine” the vulnerable then becomes all over 50s, the 40s etc etc until the 4th vaccine is ready, rinse and repeat.

London was effectively in lockdown. Can’t remember if other areas were too.

We definitely were in Essex. Tier 4 was essentially lockdown.

Kent too.
