reoccurring false positives LFT

Hi,

I'm a student nurse, 31 weeks pregnant so currently not in practice. Working from home but able to attend uni meetings and small workshops providing we have negative LFT and no symptoms.

I test twice weekly, I've had my first vaccine 2.5 weeks ago. Every LFT test I've taken has had a clear second line, so I've had to take a PCR which have been negative so far (thankfully).

These tests are from different batches, DH takes a test from the same batch and he's always clear negative. As far as I'm aware ive never had covid, but uni request I do PCRs when I get faint lines on the LFT which is understandable but I'm at a loss why this happens.

We follow the guidelines and isolate until my PCR results come back

I've attached a few to show what I mean by faint line.

I'm reading the results within the timeframe too

It might just be the photos, but I'm not seeing a double line

Ragoo · 16/06/2021 07:58

I've had to zoom in because my entire living room and DS are in the background haha. But there is a line, will try upload a clearer photo. Enough that my tutor repeatedly asks me to take PCRs Sad

I’ve got no answer but this keeps happening to my DS also - he’s had very faint positives like yours which the guidance says should be seen as positive but can also be false positive Hmm then negative on PCR each time

Ragoo · 16/06/2021 08:10

@Ligglepiggle it's really stressful isn't it, everything has to stop to isolate for the PCR and it's always negative Shock

Has anyone checked you are doing the test correctly? Only one or two drops of liquid, and read the result after exactly 30 minutes of dropping the fluid?

HeronLanyon · 16/06/2021 08:17

I’m about to take my first lft teat (or any test) this am. Really not well but symptoms are not quite in the pcr category (although have read they are symptoms just not one of ‘the three’). Reading with interest. Hoping for negative.

Ragoo · 16/06/2021 08:18

@DumplingsAndStew yeah, I'm doing them correct I was shown by ward managers when I first started practice last year. I'd done a couple before starting shifts in front of nurses too, nothing was questioned. Each time the faint line appears within 2-3 minutes

@HeronLanyon good luck x

@Ragoo

I thought you would have checked Smile How strange. Have you ever had an antigen test to see if you have had a preexisting immunity? (I personally can't see the lines BTW, but that's probably a combination of my screen and shitty eyesight)

bunburyscucumbersandwich · 16/06/2021 08:24

I can only see one line?

CagneyNYPD · 16/06/2021 08:25

A very, very faint line might appear after a few minutes and then disappear. But that's why it is important to only look at it at the 30 mins. They photos you have posted are all negative.

Ragoo · 16/06/2021 08:32

@CagneyNYPD I would of thought that to but I've been asked on practice and by tutors to do PCR because they can see a faint line

OP posts:
Ragoo · 16/06/2021 08:32

Also the lines remain after 30 minutes also. I'm taking the test correctly

I can only see one line?
snap
Ragoo · 16/06/2021 08:46

Sorry if you can't see the lines, there's definetly another line. Trust me I've been sent for PCRs 5 times over them. Pics are cropped to avoid mu DS and living room so that doesn't help

@HeronLanyon
You need a PCR, not LFT, if you have symptoms.

LifesTooShortYOLO · 16/06/2021 09:25

Yes I see what you mean I can see a faint line, I had the same I will try and find a pic

ICanSmellSummerComing · 16/06/2021 09:55

I don't know see any line at all.

sleepwouldbenice · 16/06/2021 09:58

May be you had covid in the past without symptoms ? I think Then LFT give positives for while I think?

Whatever9999 · 16/06/2021 10:44

Tbh they look like evaporation lines to me (I saw lots and lots of those when trying to get pregnant)

strangeshapedpotato · 16/06/2021 10:49

There's a few people who report this.

There's no solution - you're just someone for whom LF tests are useless. Don't think there's an explanation of why it happens, but it does.

HeronLanyon · 16/06/2021 10:52

scarby my symptom is not one of the three mentioned on the pcr booking site. It is severe headache (sever so as to be sick) successive days. No fever at all. Could possibly be migraine but no previous like successive migraines and no obvious triggers.
I can see that severe headache (without fever) and with no other symptoms at all is being found in (I think is was around 13% of delta variant. But it is not indicating a pcr if i fill in that info honestly. Just waiting for my lateral flow. Am then going to take stock. Am isolating until I have several negative lfts. Will phone for advice if this continues.

HeronLanyon · 16/06/2021 10:56

Op I can see your faint line. I too would not know what that means. I do however have line eyes as I wait for mine the stipulated 30 mins.

Ragoo · 16/06/2021 11:13

@HeronLanyon me too, spent many years TTC so all too familiar with line eyes. The lines do appear within 30 minutes and stay. So they're there when I look at the 30 minute mark. I've took them alongside other students who don't have a hint of a second line, I'm just unlucky with LFTs by the look of it Confused
