reoccurring false positives LFT

Hi,

I'm a student nurse, 31 weeks pregnant so currently not in practice. Working from home but able to attend uni meetings and small workshops providing we have negative LFT and no symptoms.

I test twice weekly, I've had my first vaccine 2.5 weeks ago. Every LFT test I've taken has had a clear second line, so I've had to take a PCR which have been negative so far (thankfully).

These tests are from different batches, DH takes a test from the same batch and he's always clear negative. As far as I'm aware ive never had covid, but uni request I do PCRs when I get faint lines on the LFT which is understandable but I'm at a loss why this happens.

We follow the guidelines and isolate until my PCR results come back

I've attached a few to show what I mean by faint line.

@Ragoo What happens if you test with a nasal swab only, not tonsils? I've read that e.g. lemon juice gives a false positive - might you be a bit more acidic than usual and that's what it's responding to?

Obviously not a doctor here, just wondering

I was negative. Die to false negatives I’m doing two more today. Something about best of three. Doesn’t seem right but somehow sensible. Isolating until I take stock.

I read that certain things such as mouthwash, coke or alcohol can interact and cause false positives. Might this be the case?

Ragoo · 16/06/2021 20:25

@someusernameorother no drink or coke due to pregnancy but I do use mouthwash

There's a length of time you must wait after eating and drinking before taking an LFT test. This includes brushing your teeth and mouthwash according to my daughter's dentist.

@Ragoo this is happening to us right now, we were in contact with our hairdresser who has tested positive bothers my husband and I have already had Covid and had both jabs and still have antibodies, my LF test is negative and his appear after 30mins with very faint line?? We have just been to do pcr tests but is really confusing. Glad I found your post because it gives me some hope that he will be negative! 🤞🏻
