Would you report a multi household holiday?

Rosie65834 · 16/06/2021 07:32

UK holiday booked in a rented house for 10th July with 4 households/8 people. The group is conflicted about whether to cancel given the extension of the rules. If the holiday is cancelled it won't be possible to rearrange.

If you owned a holiday let, would you check or care?

If you lived next door to one, would you report a multi household holiday?

Theoretically, the group could say they are 2 households. Would anyone challenge it?

Let me put it this way, OP - I won't have any sympathy for you if you are caught out and fined.

KihoBebiluPute · 16/06/2021 08:53

@MGMidget the rule is currently no more than 6 if from more than 2 households, or gatherings of any size if no more than 2 households - so 2 households each of 8 people can be a perfectly legal gathering of 16. The previous version of the "rule of 6" was different and limited it to 6 in total but that is obsolete now.

motogogo · 16/06/2021 08:54

No because people are in huge numbers in pubs, football, Wimbledon etc no social distancing. Seriously pissed off that sport is being prioritised

LightasaBreeze · 16/06/2021 08:54

@MGMidget

I thought the current limit was two households of no more than 6 so as there are 8 they would have to be one household? Usually letting agents ask for ID of all adults. If they did this they would see the different names and addresses. They will probably say they are in a support bubble but that can still only be two households. If you are trying to gauge for yourself whether you will be able to do this then you may well trip up when the letting agency want the ID of everyone on arrival.
It's two households of any size, so if it was two multigenerational households it could be a large amount of people, limit of six is for more than two households.

I'm a bit Shock at all the people on this thread saying they neither know nor care what the rules are now. Great.
I wouldn't report you OP but someone might, or the owner might refuse entry, and I wouldn't do it, mainly because I don't want to catch covid.

Remmy123 · 16/06/2021 08:55

And why wouid anyone do that?

Get a life OP

I hope they have a bloody good holiday!!!

Remmy123 · 16/06/2021 08:57

Oooops!!!! Read your post wrong! 😊

I'd go for it OP people don't report people now

EvilPea · 16/06/2021 08:59

I thought if your bubbles your counted as one household, so in theory they could be two bubbles households?

I wouldn’t report because I’d hope you weren’t families mixing from different areas, but either bubbled as above or common sense that kids in the same schools, same guides, same football club etc have realistically created massive bubbles.

Then that would be you staying at home. Crack on. The owner's already told them the onus is on them, the clients. I wouldn't give this a second thought. Enjoy your holiday.
DownToTheSeaAgain · 16/06/2021 09:05

In Wales the holiday management company/ anyone who is involved (eg cleaners) are obliged to report any contravention of the rules if they know.

danni0509 · 16/06/2021 09:09

Nope wouldn’t say a word other than have a great time!

Is it being prioritised or do sports events provide a fairly easy way to do test events?

They are going ahead anyway, most are outdoors, I think it's very sensible to use them in that way

It's easy to make spurious comparisons with other events, how would you suggest they test out relaxation of rules?

Why, does covid magically know there are 8 people instead of 6 and jump out and infect you then?
BeachSunsets · 16/06/2021 09:10

No I wouldn’t say anything.

Faffinator · 16/06/2021 09:12

We did this last year. We had one more household than was permitted at the time. The owner was quite happy with it as we were all family. We decided to be honest but otherwise would've just merged the households on the paperwork. If you're not a massive group then its a stupid rule anyway.

Brainwave89 · 16/06/2021 09:14

Absolutely not. Do not ask do not tell. I would be amazed if a hard pressed holiday let company raised questions on this..like many holiday businesses they need the cash and will be grateful for the business.

MatildaTheCat · 16/06/2021 09:18

We are going next week in a similar situation. In fact I can quite easily argue that we are two households. I’ve emailed the details to the holiday company as requested with a detailed breakdown of how the households are set up.

They are fine with that. I’m taking evidence with us just in case anyone is knobbish enough to report us the the police are bored enough to visit.

ZenNudist · 16/06/2021 09:19

No

Mrsjayy · 16/06/2021 09:22

Here children. Under 12 are not classed as part of a household, I don't understand why England didn't do the same would have saved a lot of grief I think.

notalwaysalondoner · 16/06/2021 09:23

No way. Households at this point are fluid anyway as you’re allowed to stay overnight anyway, so for someone to report me for staying with my in laws and parents on holiday for example is ridiculous when I’ve stayed with them both at their houses in the previous week anyway… rules aren’t always sensible and people should mind their own business.

Itsokthanks · 16/06/2021 09:23

I couldn't give a shit about the rules now. Holiday home owners or neighbors might feel differently.

godmum56 · 16/06/2021 09:24

If i was a neighbour to the rental house how would i know how many households the group were from?
The only thing i would say, and I mean no offence to your group, if if the houseparty was noisy and disruptive I'd definitely be taking some kind of action. Two summers ago the house that backs onto mine was used for air b and b or similar for the whole of the summer. It was a complete nightmare. Individually I guess the behaviour wasn't too bad...I mean everybody parties once in a while, but every single blooming night till the small hours was ridiculous.

aquamarine1 · 16/06/2021 09:26

We're just back from a multi-household break in a house that sleeps 20. It was in the middle of nowhere and the holiday let owners weren't bothered at all never mind anyone else.

goodbyestranger · 16/06/2021 09:27

The entire street across from one particular holiday let in our village would report if they saw four couples and no kids. Because it would be very hard to believe two sets of couples live together. But then they're serious vigilantes :) But it will actually be pretty obvious if you're more than two households.
