Would you report a multi household holiday?

Rosie65834 · 16/06/2021 07:32

UK holiday booked in a rented house for 10th July with 4 households/8 people. The group is conflicted about whether to cancel given the extension of the rules. If the holiday is cancelled it won't be possible to rearrange.

If you owned a holiday let, would you check or care?

If you lived next door to one, would you report a multi household holiday?

Theoretically, the group could say they are 2 households. Would anyone challenge it?

No.

crumpet · 16/06/2021 07:52

Aren’t the owners exposed to a fine too? Is the group willing to pay the £10k fine for the owner (as well as their own fines) if so?

(Disclaimer - not sure if it is £10k)

BramStoker · 16/06/2021 07:53

No

I suspect most sensible holiday accommodation owners will not ask either so as long as you don't declare it to the owner then all should fine

diamondpony80 · 16/06/2021 07:53

Absolutely not. But judging by what I’ve seen during covid, there are people who would.

NoSquirrels · 16/06/2021 07:54

You need to assure the owner that you are two households. Don’t put their business at risk - personally I wouldn’t care but if it was my holiday let business I’d need to care because the consequences of getting fined would be awful.

So forget about the neighbours but decide if it is genuinely possible to assure the accommodation owners that you’re two households.

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 16/06/2021 07:54

I wouldn’t. Honestly I wouldn’t even have a clue on the rules with that anymore and I don’t pay that much attention to people. However the last year has shown that some people seem to get their kicks from it.

BreakingtheIce · 16/06/2021 07:57

No of course not.

Bananapuppy · 16/06/2021 07:57

I wouldn’t dream of reporting that. 8 people having a holiday- enjoy!

PracticingPerson · 16/06/2021 07:59

I wouldn't report it, but I also wouldn't be part of it. It shouldn't be happening, so yabu to do that, even though I wouldn't report you.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 16/06/2021 08:00

If you can look like 2 households I would not give it a second thought tbh. The owner might ask that question but is hardly obliged to prove you are 2 households.

MRex · 16/06/2021 08:03

Is it 4 households of 2? If anyone is single they could be l bubble with another household and then it's legally one household.

Anyway no, of course I wouldn't report, a party of 50 maybe. It would be helpful for everyone to do LFTs before meeting and before leaving though.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 16/06/2021 08:03

Honestly, people may report it, especially if it is somewhere like Cornwall. Purely because the coastal areas are worried about tourists driving the numbers up. That's my impression on the news though.
Would I report? I don't think I could be bothered. I am a rule follower and I still wouldn't report. Let people be.

After the G7 BBQ pic I genuinely am surprised by anybody who is still caring about the rules. Have they actually given an explanation. I am waiting to see them say 'it was a work gathering, so it is ok.' Even though that picture was not necessary.

PracticingPerson · 16/06/2021 08:03

If I was letting to you I would check as I am legally required to follow the rules too. Suspect some won't ask.

HunkyPunk · 16/06/2021 08:05

If the owners were required to ask, wouldn't they have done it before now? Imo, no-one will care, or know what the 'rules' are any more, or know whether you're transgressing them, what with bubbles etc.

Enjoy your hols, op!

DistrictCommissioner · 16/06/2021 08:05

The holiday let should be policing it as they are liable otherwise. But personally I couldn’t give a monkey’s.

The announcement only came on Monday. So they could quite easily be working their way through the upcoming bookings & not got to the OP yet.

It was booked for after the possible move to step 4 but now it hasn't happened?
BirdsandBeesmakinghay · 16/06/2021 08:07

We went away in May, three households and six people . The owners only asked for names and addresses.

MRex · 16/06/2021 08:08

After the G7 BBQ pic
As far as I've seen, it was fewer than 30 people excluding the staff and it was outside, that puts it within the guidelines. They could have distanced but the guidelines explicitly state that's personal responsibility; they are all double jabbed and tested - if that wasn't enough to feel safe chatting outside then we're really screwed forever.

LightasaBreeze · 16/06/2021 08:08

You would have to hope you are not next door to many on MN who can't wait to report people.

ursuslemonade · 16/06/2021 08:09

No, why would you??

RikkiTikkiTavvi · 16/06/2021 08:11

Personally, I wouldn’t report this after the PM’s latest hypocrisy. But it wouldn’t come as a surprise if the owner did. Breaching Covid guidelines may invalidate their insurance, if they let through and agency they might risk that of breaching rules, etc.

MaloInAnAppleTree · 16/06/2021 08:11

I wouldn’t report, and IME most holiday accommodation owners just rely on your tick box to say your group is compliant with the current laws.

But I’m not sure what the G7 BBQ which appears to have been legal and entirely outdoors if a little over-cosy, has to do with four households staying in the same accommodation for a week, which is illegal and indoors.

olidora63 · 16/06/2021 08:13

No . TBH I have now lost track of what is and is not allowed 🙄How would the holiday lat be aware it is more than two households?

Actually you are correct.
