@Reachersloveinterest

I need good news as the gov have u-turned on their u-turn and now returnees from France have to quarantine after all, so we're not going.

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

It’s a bit crap of the school to not even let you know what they’re doing. Our secondary is carrying on as before as there’s only a week of term left and it would be too disruptive to change anything now, which seems reasonable. But then the headmaster is a very sensible and competent sort of chap.

I am in Costa and the QR codes have gone and there are a few more tables but not full capacity and everyone is politely masking as before. This gives me hope- ditch the pointless bits but still be careful seems to be a good approach.

It is a bit odd not to say anything. At least DS’s nursery let us know that nothing has changed.

Popped into local coop this morning and everyone masked still.

BessMarvin · 19/07/2021 11:42

It really just doesn't feel different today.

I think that's because A) there's so many cases so it's not like it's all just gone really quiet and B) it isn't like everything is back to normal, we're still all waiting to be told that our plans are cancelled and we have to stay at home for 10 days / 2 days while waiting for a test result

hugoagogo · 19/07/2021 15:04

Ack I feel rather deflated. I should not have been reading that mask wearing thread.Sad

@hugoagogo definitely a good idea to get away from mumsnet and the news every now and again. I’ve been busy all last week with a family wedding and I have to say ignorance has been bliss xx

twinmum86 · 19/07/2021 15:31

My children had a sports class (indoors) this afternoon and all bar 3 parents were still wearing masks. Not enforced by the venue

TheChineseChicken · 19/07/2021 15:48

Not sure what the intended effect was of no school comms re masks but the actual effect was the 60% of parents without masks looking confused and asking the 40% with masks if they were supposed to still be wearing them and if there had been an email about it Hmm

TheChineseChicken · 19/07/2021 15:49

I couldn’t tell if I was being OTT wearing one (all outside)

Bordois · 19/07/2021 16:06

A drop in cases today - just under 40k! Testing looks to be up so its not lack of tests unless I'm missing something.

Not far off 100k.... snort

TheChineseChicken · 19/07/2021 16:10

Here’s hoping it’s at least not increasing at the expected rate, even if not actually dropping

Ifyourefeelingsinister · 20/07/2021 17:27

Lost the thread again. Thanks to everyone for the good news.

I've been doing the VirusWatch antibody tests for several months and just came across this with some preliminary findings.
Some very reassuring data on both vaccines after two doses.

They were looking at people with underlying conditions such as immunosuppression (which I have) and other high risk factors. After one dose there were some poor results for AZ but after two doses they were indistigushable from Pfizer and
Following a second dose, high S-antibody levels (≥250U/ml) were observed for nearly all individuals (Figure 2)

sashagabadon · 20/07/2021 19:34

I haven’t been on this thread for a while but I have some good news so thought I’d share!
My dh ( along with much of the male population) caught the Wembley variant either at the pub or packed bus home. Anyway he is double jabbed AZ and got a slight headache on Wednesday and tested positive lft on Thursday confirmed by PCR. He is absolutely fine now ( though we are obvs stuck at home). The good news is that I have not caught it at all, still negative lft’s and neither has my children. I am also double AZ jabbed and had dose 2 in August 2020 (as on trial) so almost a year ago. So either the vaccines stopped him transmitting to us or my vaccine did it’s job 11 months post jab Smile

Firefly2021 · 20/07/2021 20:23

That’s great to hear @sashagabadon … not your husband catching Covid but how well the vaccine helped minimise things.

Cafeaulait27 · 20/07/2021 20:28

Great news Sasha and Fizzi!

Positive chart demonstrating the difference in death rates since vaccinations.

About 90% of UK adults (slight variation across the nations) have Covid antibodies:

Great news. Perhaps our current policy is justified. Smile

4 days in a row now with lower cases than the 17th. Including today which is only about 5% higher than this day last week.

With the effects of schools out and the heatwave yet to be effecting the numbers, does anyone think we may have peaked in cases on the 17th?

hugoagogo · 21/07/2021 19:06

tuba I did notice the numbers seem to be holding steadyish.

Hopefully I won't be adding to the cases- currently waiting for the result of my pcr test.Hmm

Specimen date is more interesting. I only look at England, because I don't follow enough about other nations. 16th was the first drop. I'm expecting a nightclub bounce at the end of this week and again end of next week. There's a bounce today that seems too early for nightclubs, but could be weekend partying or additional school LFT ratification from Monday morning. It's at least not going up this week, which is pleasing. I remain hopeful for next week.
OrangeBananaFish · 21/07/2021 21:50

I really really hope so. As far as I can tell the only thing that might create any jumps will be the nightclubs opening. Most other things are pretty much the same as before. People are still wearing masks and distancing plus schools are out the end of this week (if not already finished - my DC schools break up 23rd) so that might counteract the nightclub effect hopefully?

Bordois · 21/07/2021 21:59

100k a day by Friday then..? 😉

Bordois · 21/07/2021 22:00

Any thoughts on how much? My thinking is that those who would go clubbing would already have been mixing in bars so there's a possibility it might not be too bad.

MRex · 21/07/2021 22:13

Piece of string size I reckon. Er... 3799 nightclubs, so say an extra 40k per week added in, call it 50k for luck.
