Anyone else get a flare up of cold sores after the vaccine?

I had Pfizer and within 7 days that tingling on my lips arrived and a big break out

Not had a cold sore for over 20 years!

Anyone else? I'd imagine it's some post-viral reaction if this is common place and not a total coincidence?

I am very prone to cold sores. Usually get them when I do too much. Nothing following vaccine.

I’d say that’s to be expected if u usually get cold sores and you’re feeling particularly rundown after your jab. Look after yourself.

Suzi888 · 10/06/2021 05:49

DH did, but gets them occasionally anyway. He had Pfizer.

northernmum my dp had awful shingles 10 days after jab 1. Whilst we obviously can’t ascribed everything to the vaccination, and mustn’t, there is interesting research starting to filter through about this and what is currently annecdotal gp observation about potential link. When you look at the ways the vaccine works to a non scientific eye it certainly makes sense that there could be a link.
Anyway hope you yellow formed it (as a suspected and unusual possible side effect). Dp did. Second jab did not have this effect but antivirals were very much to hand just in case.
Shingles vaccination is definitely something we’re both considering (nhs/private) in future. It’s not fun at all and I hope you are recovered.

No.

I’m sure this isn’t that unusual. The vaccine has caused an immune response, I think it re-triggered an old virus in me and a friend recently told me she has just been diagnosed with the adult version of a childhood virus, very soon after her jab. The doctor said he’s noticed a lot of this recently post vaccine.

Yes started about 8 days after the AZ jab.
Whenever i have had them before, i'm run down, lack of sleep, have a cold etc
But i ve had none of these, with both jabs didn't even have a sore arm, & have felt perfectly fine.

My partner has had weeks of fatigue :(

The trouble is, its impossible to prove cause and effect.

Ticklemycarpets · 10/06/2021 07:48

Yes me - hadn't had one in 20 years. Got one a week after second Astrazenica jab

Blabla81 · 30/07/2021 14:40

Came across this thread while looking for answers re cold sores and the jab.
My “issue” is the opposite and it’s made me curious.
I get cold sores very regularly - have done since childhood. Over the last 5 years their occurrence has become even more regular. Embarrassingly, I’m a bit of a lip picker and this results in huge cold sores probably once a month. Since having my first vaccine in May I haven’t had a sniff of a cold sore. Nothing. It could just be luck and coincidence but I’m very surprised I haven’t had several since then.
Wondering if anyone else has had the same experience or anything similar?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 30/07/2021 15:31

Nope. I did have one but it was 8 weeks after the first jab and a week before the second so not related.

Amboseli · 30/07/2021 15:39

DH had gout after both Pfizer jabs as did a few of his friends. Apparently it's quite common after a vaccine. Last time he had a vaccine was probably 50 years ago.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 30/07/2021 15:58

Now. Yes. I have had loads since I had mine months ago. I had not put the two together. Interesting ……

Orangesandlemons77 · 30/07/2021 16:22

I have had Shingles a few weeks after, unsure if related but the only time I had them once previously was after a major surgery. Thought it was a bit strange.

0blio · 30/07/2021 16:26

This explains why I had my first cold sore in years after my 2nd dose (AZ). I also had several mouth ulcers, one after the other. I did wonder what was going on.
