Do you think they will extend the lockdown or stick with 21st June As Freedom day?

I hope they don't extend, because it moves the goalposts and then could lead to another extension. As it optional to go to certain places like clubs, when they open, then people vaccinated or not can make their choice.

I sadly think they will extend it and ruin my party planned for the end of June.

But why does it need to move back for the relatively young age groups still waiting for their second or first dose? According to “the science” these age groups are already quite protected just by virtue of their age alone and if they have risk factors making them vulnerable then chances are they’ve already received their doses. My 21 year old DSis has just had her second dose because for some reason she was flagged up as vulnerable.

paralysedbyinertia · 07/06/2021 12:02

I think it'll move back to mid-July to allow a decent chunk of that age group to get first vaccines and for more second vaccinations of the 40s and 50s to be done.

Won't most people in their forties and fifties have already had the second jab by 21st June? I know my area is a bit ahead of some others, but even my BIL in a slower area will be done by that time...and that's without any attempt to bring the second jabs forward, which I had understood to be the plan. Confused

I don't know any 40s who will have had both jabs by 21 June. I am nearly 41 and my second is scheduled for early August

No, you have misunderstood what the goalposts actually were.

To me, the level of hospitalisations is key. If the hospitals are full of Covid patients then of necessity (given the government’s woeful track record in NHS funding) elective activity will be cut and I think it is vital that this doesn’t happen.

Oh ok, fair enough. It must vary hugely by area, then. I don't think I know anyone in that age bracket who won't have been second jabbed by 21 June, with the exception of a couple of people who have declined to have it. Indeed, I know a few non-frontline thirty somethings who will be double vaccinated by that time. However, if some 40+ people are having to wait until August, then sadly, the 21 June reopening starts to sound wildly unrealistic. Sad

In England booking was only opened up to people in their forties about a month ago. DH and I had our first jabs three weeks ago with most of our friends. We’re all due second vaccines in august.

I have obviously got a skewed idea of where we're at from what's happening in my local area, then.

paralysedbyinertia · 07/06/2021 12:24

Most people I know were jabbed through the local GP practices long before the national booking system opened up for their age group. I guess I assumed that was happening elsewhere as well.

Girlmama3 · 07/06/2021 12:30

Being pregnant and only having had one jab, I hope they extend it.

They need to see if the rise in cases result in more hospitalisations. If it they find this to be true after unlocking, they'll never go back.

Pye

Where is your ICU half occupied with patients under 40?

I don’t actually believe you. DH is an ITU consultant in a major city. He has ONE patient with covid aged 64 who refused the vaccine.

Agree - that’s very unusual atm. In our area there are some Covid positive people receiving supplemental oxygen of one sort or another, most are not in ICU / HDU and in our biggest trust all are unvaccinated.
ZoBo123 · 07/06/2021 12:38

Data not dates only seems to work one way though. Back in early May they could have brought forward the restrictions that were eased (eating inside etc) on 17th but didn't, they went with the date not the data.

sunshineflowers · 07/06/2021 12:43

Second vaccines seem to be given from week 9 now .. if you've booked on national booking system then you can also change it, cancel and rebook. I suggested to my DH did this and was offered his second at 9 weeks instead of week 12.

My vaccine was through the GP and got the text for the second vaccine at week 9 and booked for this week which is 10 weeks since my first jab.

LovelyLovelyWarmCoffee · 07/06/2021 12:43

I hope they’ll extend the «WFH if you can»

Being pregnant are you likely to go to a nightclub or are you saying you want to go to the pub, but want it table service still? I just don't get it, if you don't mix with loads of people your risk is very low, especially having had one jab.
tearsandtiaras · 07/06/2021 12:46

Whoever is saying its not a lockdown now clearly doesn't get the number of people inside one's house restrictions or the fact soo many things are shut

Come on. You can’t call only being able to meet six people inside your house a lockdown. You can travel wherever you want in the U.K. You can stay in hotels. You can go shopping. You can go to pubs, restaurants, gyms, swimming pools, cinemas etc etc etc. Children are in school.

Yes, there are restrictions but this is not a lockdown.

Lostinacloud · 07/06/2021 12:58

Read back what you’ve just written @PurpleDaisies. Doesn’t it sound even a tiny bit ridiculous that we should be grateful that we are ‘allowed’ to go shopping and to pubs and restaurants? How did it even get to this and why is it acceptable that we don’t have everything that we had before in 2020?
Don’t tell me it’s because there’s a pandemic on because the numbers are just not adding up anymore.

PurpleDaisies · 07/06/2021 12:58

I’m not saying that we should be “grateful”. I’m saying it’s not a lockdown.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 07/06/2021 12:59

Let’s compromise and call it a partial lockdown.

I mean, it’s currently illegal to dance or sing along to music in an indoor public space. Whoever thought such a thing would ever be in place?

frumpety · 07/06/2021 13:02

tearsandtiaras I keep thinking about what we can't do now ? I have just got back off holiday in the UK, I can go to work, go to the shops, visit relatives, go to the pub, eat in a resturaunt, children are back at school and college, playing team sports again. I keep trying to think of things we can't do that we would normally be able to do and I haven't come up with any yet.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 07/06/2021 13:06

Yes we can go the shops, pub, restaurants etc but you still can’t go to them ‘normally’

And you can’t go to a gig - which is my biggest bugbear

yep and you cant have more than 30 people at your wedding, and you cant have a proper evening do. Its soooo far from normal.

It is now possible to move the second dose forward for over 40s by a couple of weeks on the NHS booking system. My husband just did it and was given a late June slot (having had his first at the end of April).

I'm with @PurpleDaisies on this. There are restrictions, but this not a lockdown.

We are moving out of a pandemic situation and it is a global situation, we can't just go, 'rightio, that's that done with let's crack on'. The whole point of the road map is to open up gradually, whilst keeping an eye on how the last bit of opening up affected things, what variants are doing and how vaccinations are going.

Tal45 · 07/06/2021 13:34

I don't mind if it's put back until the schools break up but then it needs to stop.
