Hostile reaction from colleague

Zig27 · 04/06/2021 16:32

I am temping and bumped into an ex colleague. As soon as he found out I had not had the vaccine he leant right back and said you need to get it done and that he could not understand why I had not had it done. I found the leaning response insulting as we were a couple of metres apart and wearing masks. For all I know he could be a carrier and risk to me and yet was acting as though I had covid. I don’t know why he thinks he is immune. I think he may be a negative person in general as he started moaning saying his family are right wing bigots that annoy him, I’m not sure why he felt the need to tell me this. No-one else goes round asking personal questions about my health so I don’t know why he thinks he can.

Then why did you tell him?

Zig27 · 04/06/2021 19:49

I wish I didn’t tell him. It’s because he asked. I just don’t know what to say if someone asks again as I find it an uncomfortable subject.

Id have asked him if he had knocked one out today .
Fucking rude anyone asking. Its up there with 'was it planned?'

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 04/06/2021 20:09

When is your vaccine appointment?

FflosFfantastig · 04/06/2021 20:17

Sadly I think there will be a lot of this kind of bizarre behaviour. Take no notice. He's obviously just being a dick.

XenoBitch · 04/06/2021 20:24

If someone asks you again in future, just politely tell them that is none of their business, then quickly change the subject.

PigletJohn · 04/06/2021 21:23

If you are of an age when you will have been eligible, people are bound to suspect your motives for not having it. It is your decision, just as it is your colleague's decision to lean away. In my experience, people are mostly pleased to be vaccinated, and to say so.

If you are 15, your colleague was unreasonable.

Kyph · 04/06/2021 22:06

I'd lean right back if I thought someone had refused to have the vaccine.

Haudyourwheesht · 04/06/2021 22:08

Loads of my colleagues haven't had the vaccine yet. I assume you haven't had it through choice, and felt the need to share that fact, OP?

GivenchyDahhling · 04/06/2021 22:38

You can't just unilaterally declare a thread closed, that's not how it works... Wink

pickingdaisies · 04/06/2021 22:40

Is that an official closed sign do we think? Or could we, you know, move it to the side of the road and drive on through?

RightOnTheEdge · 04/06/2021 22:41

Thread closed? 🤣 🤣 🤣

Brownteddybear · 04/06/2021 22:42

@Kyph

I'd lean right back if I thought someone had refused to have the vaccine.
Wtf? Are you going to ask every single person you meet whether they've had it or not? It's not going to make any difference to you either way.
Haudyourwheesht · 04/06/2021 22:43

OP's in the huff. God forbid you should be challenged on a public forum. Grin

Tatum1234 · 04/06/2021 22:45

Don’t blame him tbh

SlackieBeaver · 04/06/2021 22:48

I now announce this thread as open. Please proceed as you were.

@Brownteddybear. Of course I wouldn't ask people, and obviously many haven't yet had the opportunity for a vaccine.
However ifsomeone let it be known that they actually chose not to have it I would steer clear.
Had this conversation with friends ( ie how do you feel about people who won't have vaccine) and the feeling seems universal.
