Hostile reaction from colleague

61 replies

Zig27 · 04/06/2021 16:32

I am temping and bumped into an ex colleague. As soon as he found out I had not had the vaccine he leant right back and said you need to get it done and that he could not understand why I had not had it done. I found the leaning response insulting as we were a couple of metres apart and wearing masks. For all I know he could be a carrier and risk to me and yet was acting as though I had covid. I don’t know why he thinks he is immune. I think he may be a negative person in general as he started moaning saying his family are right wing bigots that annoy him, I’m not sure why he felt the need to tell me this. No-one else goes round asking personal questions about my health so I don’t know why he thinks he can.

Normal Service Is Resumed.

Tubs11 · 04/06/2021 23:11

Is this a reverse? Are you the guy Grin

Viviennemary · 04/06/2021 23:19

I wouldnt associate with a vaccine refuser. Fortunately none of my friends are.

Totallydefeated · 04/06/2021 23:20

I'd lean right back if I thought someone had refused to have the vaccine.

Eh? Why would you do this if you’ve had yours?

OP, there’s no need to divulge your personal medical information to anybody. Just say you never discuss personal medical matters with anybody but your doctor. Or something like “isn’t it interesting how Covid seems to have led people to feel it’s acceptable to ask personal questions about other people’s medical history?” Looking them straight in the eye with a slightly raised eyebrow.... A confident air with a slight challenge will ensure you get no further questions.

Twoforthree · 04/06/2021 23:23

They would go down in my estimation if they just refused rather than couldn’t have for a medical reason.

Zig27 · 04/06/2021 23:24

@Totallydefeated Thank you for answering my question and giving supportive advice.

@Twoforthree I have medical issues and I find it upsetting when people probe as it is just a constant reminder of my condition.

Well then you just say “I can’t have the vaccine for medical reasons”. No need to make it awkward.

goodmorningsunshine7 · 04/06/2021 23:33

Stay away from the spike protein shedding idiot. He’s the threat to you not the other way around, look into spike protein shedding. Thank god I work from home and my family and friends don’t follow blind orders.

BonnieDundee · 04/06/2021 23:36

The leaning back makes it sound as if he is a bit of a drama queen Grin

Dasher789 · 04/06/2021 23:37

I am constantly asked at work have I had the vaccine yet. I think its quite inappropriate, people don't go around asking if you have had a smear test or other medical questions. I also don't understand why people would lean away for those who are not vaccinated. For a start, a lot of people, myself included, have yet to receive our letters and have not been vaccinated through no choice of our own but even for those who choose not to, the risk they pose is to themselves. Vaccinated people can carry the virus its just that they have a helping hand if they were unlucky enough to experience an adverse reaction. As we know, many will catch the virus and have little to no symptoms. If you catch the virus and have serious symptoms, hopefully the vaccine will assist you in not getting to a dangerous point. If you are unvaccinated, the risk to yourself is generally your own choice.

😆😆🤣🤣

Oh my God. First one I've seen in the wild!

IdoIdoIdoOoh · 04/06/2021 23:42

Ugh just ignore him, I've not had anyone lean back from me yet but I got a bollocking from someone the other day.

I find it quite bizarre that people even ask others if they've had it and then even worse to berate them for making a choice about their own body.

Hahahah, I was starting to think people like you were a myth.

I'd lean right back if I thought someone had refused to have the vaccine.
Do you leap into bushes if someone passes you on the pavement too?
Ostara212 · 05/06/2021 00:16

@Hairwizard

Id have asked him if he had knocked one out today . Fucking rude anyone asking. Its up there with 'was it planned?'
I agree with this in theory

But you don't want to lose your job. Just lie. They ask such a nosey question, they deserve a lie.

Sorry, I missed that
Even more reason to lie
Nosey parkers will ask about that too.

We need you in charge of our borders OP!
Haudyourwheesht · 05/06/2021 07:49

I think it's just chat. Everyone is going to be offered one so he was just asking if you've had yours. He would have been surprised as most people are having them when offered.

If you find health discussions triggering, OP, maybe don't start one on a public forum.

colouringcrayons · 05/06/2021 07:53

@Zig27

I wish I didn’t tell him. It’s because he asked. I just don’t know what to say if someone asks again as I find it an uncomfortable subject.
You need a response.

You shouldn't be asked so you could say 'gosh, do you ask everyone for full medical history or just partial' and then talk about something else.

I refuse to answer any jab questions at work even tho I have had it.

starfish4 · 05/06/2021 08:04

It's a talking point. We know that all our friends have been vaccinated, with the exception of one - she has a current health reason for not having it done. She wants to protect me, I want to protect her, hence we meet outside and distance as much as possible at table. You can't do that if you have to work inside with someone.

Even if you've had the vaccine, you can still catch covid - hopefully not so bad but there's a risk and quite a few genuinely don't want that risk. He probably didn't mean to, but it was a protective instinct to sit back.

FflosFfantastig · 05/06/2021 08:17

@Kyph

I'd lean right back if I thought someone had refused to have the vaccine.
Don't you trust your vaccine?
Sparklfairy · 05/06/2021 09:06

@brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

When is your vaccine appointment?
Oh I do love these PA MN responses Grin
Unsure33 · 05/06/2021 10:04

I would just lie . Say you have had it .

Unsure33 · 05/06/2021 10:07

Also I am afraid I don’t blame him in a way it unfortunately is instinct to judge . I agree with the freedom to chose but I have a colleague who has said they have not had the vaccine as they would rather take their chance with covid and my gut reaction was that it’s a bit selfish and she will be more of a risk to me than those that have had the vaccine which technically is true as having the vaccine reduces the risk of spreading the virus .
I have to learn to control my gut feelings on this though .
