Anyone else with the delta variant?

Nowivegotcovid · 04/06/2021 12:31

I’m on day 3, or maybe 4 of Covid. Feels like I have really bad hay fever, not sure if it really is hay fever or if it’s Covid symptoms!
Anyone else out there with confirmed delta/Indian variant?

Anyone?

I haven’t taken a test but I have really weird hayfever symptoms (streaming nose, red eyes, feel congested around my sinuses). Don’t normally suffer but we’re away in the U.K. and thought maybe our apartment had dust mites or something!!

Your post has made me think, have you had a confirmed test and why did you test. Do you have classic covid symptoms too?

BelleBlueBell · 04/06/2021 13:29

Do you get to find out which variant you have if you test positive?

I know at one time they sampled only a percentage of tests to sequence the variant, are they now doing them all and letting you know? I suppose that's a lot more vaiable now that cases are lower than the peak.

Interesting that the symptoms of the delta variant are the same as hay fever, they should publicise that more to make sure people test. I didn't know that so good to be aware.

Nowivegotcovid · 04/06/2021 13:31

It may be hayfever or an allergen you’re not used to at home.

My dc’s school have had a few cases - dc has had to isolate due to a case in their bubble, had a bit of a cold/cough, no temp. The rest of our household got a positive test about a week after them! The only official Covid symptom i have is loss of taste/smell which started this morning.

I wondered if possibly I’m not displaying many symptoms but my hayfever is playing up!

My DC has had it confirmed as the delta variant and we caught it from them. I’m not necessarily saying the symptoms are hayfever-like - just that’s all I’m feeling at the moment. I’ve had on and on hayfever for a couple of months now, this just feels ramped up.

This is interesting as I’ve had this on and off for a few days but assumed it was hayfever or a cold. I did take a couple of lateral flows and they came out negative though.

Nowivegotcovid · 04/06/2021 13:48

It likely is hayfever or a cold- both are common at the moment.

Maybe my symptoms will worsen in time, though I hope they don’t!

Hope you feel better soon OP. Have you had a vaccine yet?

lljkk · 04/06/2021 14:58

I did not know that people were routinely informed which variant they had.

Doublevacc · 04/06/2021 15:06

I had a positive test on Monday so am on day 5. It's felt like a very debilitating head cold, very congested, tight chest, itchy eyes, very tired. I am double vaccinated so am presuming this is a mild dose.

Almost certainly picked it up in school last week and am assuming it's likely to be the Delta variant but haven't been told that.

Just fed up to be isolating over a beautifully sunny half term but grateful it's not worse.

Angrymum22 · 04/06/2021 15:15

I have had a common cold for the last 7days. Runny nose, blocked sinuses and productive cough. Caught it off my DS who brought it home from school. I had Covid last year and completed vaccination in March. I have LTFs twice a week and the current case number in our county is less than 3 in 100k. So it’s a cold.
LTF and PCR tests do not identify the variant. Some PCR tests and community sampling tests are forwarded for genetic mapping but this takes a couple of weeks after test is carried out. I am fairly certain they don’t let you know.
With easing of lockdown other viruses are now on the hunt. If people are able to spread covid they will also be spreading colds, chicken pox and every other infectious viruses. We have an outbreak of chicken pox locally.

Jasmine245 · 04/06/2021 15:15

Have you been vaccinated OP? I read covid symptoms (from either variant) are more like hayfever with lots of sneezing if you have had the vaccine.

strangeshapedpotato · 04/06/2021 15:20

It's quite good news - your risk of getting it seriously is related to the number of symptoms reported in the first week.
covid.joinzoe.com/post/covid-hospitalisation-risk

So the fact you have few symptoms, suggests it will be a mild infection!

Nowivegotcovid · 04/06/2021 15:22

Not had vaccine, I’m not 30 yet, DH has had his first dose, he seems to be similar to me but suffering more with cough, hayfevery and muscle aches.

School have told us that PHE has confirmed Indian variant and then I got a phone call from them to confirm the same regarding DC’s result.

ineedaholidaynow · 04/06/2021 15:26

@Angrymum22 have you done a PCR test?

Nowivegotcovid · 04/06/2021 15:29

@strangeshapedpotato that is promising, thanks for that! I feel like I’m just waiting to get really really ill

Bumzoo · 04/06/2021 15:51

I've been feeling like this but don't get hayfever. LFT was negative though.

BlueSurfer · 04/06/2021 15:56

This is interesting that people are now being told which variant they have. Hope you feel better soon.

Nowivegotcovid · 04/06/2021 16:02

@BlueSurfer I’m not sure if they are. The school were told they had confirmed cases and then I was called by PHE to say that DC’s result is confirmed as the new Indian variant and they asked some questions, but I haven’t had the same communication about mine or my husbands positive pcr results.

Jaz12 · 04/06/2021 19:16

We have a house full of it too! Hubby is on day 7, I’m on day 4 and DS on day 3! I have hayfever and my symptoms started exactly like hayfever as well!

sinistericecreamvan · 04/06/2021 19:48

@Jaz12 are you confirmed with Covid or just have the same symptoms?

Jaz12 · 04/06/2021 20:04

We have all been confirmed by PCR test now. I did a lateral flow test on myself daily (out of curiosity) and they were negative until today (day 4 of symptoms)!

Teal123 · 04/06/2021 21:13

My kids had sore throat and colds last weekend on tues i started with funny throat, yesterday the snot and today a horrid cough my throat constantly spasming. I feel lousy despite paracetamol every 4 hours. Took pcr test this morning because my oesteopath wont let me go unless i test. I took lateral flow on thursdsy which was negative. I think its a cold but not sure now after reading avove?!

speakout · 04/06/2021 21:17

Are people told? My DD is recovering from Covid atm, her positive PCR test last week gave no info about variant.

Nowivegotcovid · 04/06/2021 21:30

@Jaz12 sounds like we have similar timelines, though my DC had it first and passed it on to us. Took me ages to get a positive too - I knew I must have it but think it took 5/6 days for me to get a positive result after my Dc! How are you feeling now? Hope it doesn’t get too bad for you!
Is yours confirmed as Indian/delta?

I’ve spoken to at least 3 different people at PHE now, think there has been a spike of the new variant in my area of the country so guess they’re trying to trace it back and minimise spread now as it seems to be even more transmissible than the others
