Anything else going around at the minute?

Ds 5 became unwell on Tuesday night with a slight temp, he had calpol and the temp hasn't returned, Wednesday he became really snotty with a very slight cough and then last night in bed was coughing a lot, the cough is productive and sounds like it's coming from his chest, he's been coughing quite a lot this morning and is still really snotty, he has that look of being unwell that kids usually have so I'm just wondering if there is anything else going around at the minute?

*he had a covid test this morning we are currently waiting for the results!

Yes, obviously there are lots of viruses going round all the time Confused What a bizarre question!

yellowmustard · 04/06/2021 11:05

@DarcyLewis thank you for replying, I know other viruses are still going around I'm quite aware that covid hasn't wiped out any other virus it was just a general question Smile

I don't understand the question then - yes, there are other viruses going around.

YawnyOwl · 04/06/2021 11:07

It really would depend on your area OP... I'm sure there's lots of germs everywhere at all times

Peppapeg · 04/06/2021 11:08

There's a nasty, lingering cold going around here, thankfully after 2 weeks of misery DS was finally prescribed antibiotics and the difference within a day and a half of him starting them in unreal. Lots of my friends with little ones have said the same, real lingering and grim cold which seems to need a bit of help to shift in some.

yellowmustard · 04/06/2021 11:11

@YawnyOwl we've had the general snotty noses from school but nothing with a cough, I also don't know anybody who has had covid so I'm unsure of what the cough sounds like or what symptoms are in children with covid, we've done a test anyway so hopefully get the results soon!

@Peppapeg thank you! It does sound like a nasty cold his eyes are puffy and he looks unwell but he's absolutely fine and still playing. We haven't been around anybody so god knows where this has come from!

Yes this kind of thing has been going around at our school and causing a lot of absences while DC get tested. At least the test turnaround time is now really quick, less than 24 hrs for us.

ThePlantsitter · 04/06/2021 11:14

Where we are there is a hideous cold going round. I suppose it's inevitable once we start getting closer again and our immune systems have forgotten how to fight off little bugs!

Badabingbadabum · 04/06/2021 11:16

Dds have both had colds recently from school and nursery. Dh and I caught it too and took lateral flow tests that dh gets from work. They are all coming up negative.

yellowmustard · 04/06/2021 11:20

@ThePlantsitter I actually think this is half the issue that he hasn't been unwell for such a long time as we haven't been out apart from a minor snotty nose now he actually has something else his immune system is really trying to budge it!

Yes, lots of people I know have a nasty cold with cough at the mo. All tested and all negative. I presume it’s because of more mixing than usual.

Nowivegotcovid · 04/06/2021 12:42

We’ve all had a cold for weeks. Got tested and we all have Covid! There’s been an outbreak at DS’s school.
Fingers crossed you’re negative though

Overthebow · 04/06/2021 15:14

Yes we’ve all had a cold and cough. All tested and negative so something else nasty going around.

duckme · 04/06/2021 15:25

According to our school, Covid is the only illness. Literally anything will result in a child being sent for a test.

vonny63 · 05/06/2021 05:40

In East London, spent a week in a children's ward with my son. Lots of under 5s in at the moment with respiratory virus.

LJC1234 · 05/06/2021 06:00

Why are some people so weird in their replies Confused

I fully understood your question.

We have had the awful cold here. DS caught it at his first soft play. It's been a nasty one. I agree with a previous PP I think it's also hit us all worse as we haven't been ill for so long

I know lots of people with it. All Covid negative

Golden2021 · 05/06/2021 06:18

Definite awful cold with cough going round here. Tested negative.

ISaidDontLickTheBin · 05/06/2021 06:21

Yep both my dc have had what you describe OP, Covid negative.

Lockdownbear · 05/06/2021 06:21

Tested negative too, but had a right nasty cold for about the last 10 days.

MoreAloneTime · 05/06/2021 06:22

Something like this is going around the babies and toddlers in my social group too. It's not pleasant but hoping it will pass. Obviously no idea what the infection is but it's not like that would make a difference.

yellowmustard · 05/06/2021 14:22

Thank you everyone,

Still waiting for his results so hopefully they should be back soon! I definitely think it will be negative though.

@LJC1234 haha thank you Smile I guess some people just try to look for reactions!

Loads of things going round. Remember that only a small percentage of people who go for PCR tests (with symptoms), are positive. All the others are people who feel ill, but don't have covid. So there have been other things going round the whole time.

I had a stinking cold for a couple of weeks - still have the lingering cough. I had a PCR test 2 weeks ago and have done 4 LFT for work since, all negative.

Cornettoninja · 05/06/2021 15:08

There are still things going round yes, plenty of bugs enjoying relaxing restrictions as much as we are! Don’t forget that prexisiting conditions and hay fever can exacerbate during any illness and we’re hyper aware of respiratory symptoms right now.

It’s definitely important to PCR test to rule out covid though so I’m glad you have done. Mild covid symptoms don’t give you any particular ‘tell’ to be able to rule it out.

Mangomoonlight · 05/06/2021 20:16

My toddler has had a high temp on and off at night for the last week, a nasty cold, cough and was prescribed antibiotics for an ear infection yesterday.

The rest of us have got the cold...

Katya213 · 05/06/2021 20:20

I and dd had the mother of all viruses two weeks ago, body aches, temps, you name it. Both of us tested negative.
